White Sox

Drew Thorpe is throwing his changeup at different speeds.

“He learned his changeup plays three times in a row to certain guys,” said White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, commending Thorpe for greater fastball command since Arizona put seven earned runs on him on June 16. “Normally, that doesn’t happen because you don’t throw the same pitch three times in a row.

“People make adjustments. He learned today he can with the changeup if he continues to mix the speeds of the changeup. There are some really good learning moments.”

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

I only wrote up the guys with 1-2 x’s. The 3 x’s are either locked studs or capable streamers with great matchups and most of the 0 x’s are easy skips. That said, I’ll gladly answer any questions if you want further discussion on anyone.

Starting Pitcher Chart – July 22nd, 2024

Syndication: Detroit Free Press

We’re back from the All-Star break! I can’t believe the deadline is just over a week away, but don’t let that make you lose sight of the fact that there is still enough time to make major shifts in your standings. I know Justin and I hammer this point on the podcast, too, but it isn’t impossible to see substantial moves from the All-Star break on. Obviously, every situation is unique and I’m not going to pretend that some teams aren’t completely dead, but many aren’t and it sucks to kinda give up on a squad that ends up rallying only for you to realize that a bit more rigor in this part of the schedule when things like the new College Football video game and of course football itself start garnering attention (assuming you’re a football fan, of course).

Quick All-Star Break Study #3: Month-to-Month Correlation for ERA and Related Stats

Over the break, I’m going to run a few quick studies. If you want to request, add it to this Twitter thread.

The final study I’ll run is looking at how much stock should a person have in a month of pitching stats. I wanted to understand these correlations since I quote them a ton. The usual suspects top the list with an interesting find on WHIP projections. Read the rest of this entry »

FAAB & Waiver Wire Report (Week 17)

In the article, I cover the players using CBS’s (about 40% or less initial roster rate) and Yahoo’s ADD/DROP rates. Both hosting sites have the option for daily and weekly waiver wire adds. CBS uses a weekly change while Yahoo looks at the last 24 hours. Yahoo is a great snapshot of right now while CBS ensures hot targets from early in the week aren’t missed. The players are ordered for redraft leagues by my rest-of-season preference grouped by starters, relievers, and hitters. Read the rest of this entry »
