2025 New Year’s Resolutions for Fantasy

A new year is upon us and this is often a time we make resolutions to improve ourselves and our lives for the upcoming year. Often these are forgotten or left unfulfilled, but I think they represent our hopes, dreams, and ambitions. At worst we are acknowledging what we need or want to change, which is an admirable exercise. With that said, here are my Fantasy Baseball New Year’s Resolutions for 2025!

  • Trust Myself

I consume a lot of content from people in the industry. I think one of the strongest parts of my prep is being willing to disseminate information from a multitude of sources. However, I have too often allowed other’s opinions to overrule my own. I have gotten better about not doing this as much in recent seasons, but it is still difficult to manage consistently. I especially fell victim to it at the draft table because of ADP. Too often do I pass up on the player I have higher rated for the “perceived value” because someone drops in the ADP. I am hoping to change this in 2025. This doesn’t mean that I won’t listen to others, but I will be less likely to be influenced by group think.

  • Play In Fewer Leagues

Hi, my name is Justin and I am a draft addict. For years I have been playing in anywhere from 15-30 leagues a season. While my last two years have been much more profitable because of the work I have done in the offseason, I know that the quantity of leagues I play in hurts my in-season management. When you are in so many leagues, it becomes easier to miss certain guys during FAAB or when setting so many lineups. I have pledged to lower the amount of leagues I am playing in. I will never be a guy that plays in one or two leagues, but I can likely improve my ROI by limiting my leagues to the lower double digits.

  • Manage My FAAB Better

Part of being more successful in FAAB will come from being in fewer leagues. That being said, I need to continue to improve my FAAB process. I am often so busy that I don’t start the process early enough in the week and I need to do a better job of spreading the work out as opposed to just trying to knock it out on Sunday a few hours before the deadline.

  • Get Organized

I love spreadsheets, but I have not been great about getting things organized for my in-season management with them. I have already started to build spreadsheets to organize things like my writing and podcasting schedule, work assignments, and home chores. I need to do the same with my teams to better track where I can improve on a team.

  • Schedule Myself

I love to spread myself thin. I will say yes to every podcast guest spot or article. I have a hard time saying no to anyone or anything fantasy baseball related. This sometimes leads me to double booking myself or just feeling burnt out. I have decided that this year I will say no more and that I need to keep to a regular schedule in order to not get burnt out or overwhelmed.

  • Grow My Content

For a few years now, I have wanted to do more with my content. I love what I already do, but there is more that I have yet to learn or accomplish. I would like to learn video editing to further increase the mediums I can post on. I have also been more stagnant in the last couple of years on social media which is something I would like to rectify. While doing this, I don’t want to be so singularly focused. I have interests outside of baseball that I would like to start using for content.

  • Get My 2026 Projections Done Faster

I feel like I struggle every year to get my projections down before the end of the calendar year which puts me behind schedule on everything else. I want to pledge to start them earlier after the season and finish them before the change to the New Year.

  • Be More Me

The best article I have ever written was a personal piece that meant a ton to me. In the course of a year, I usually write 250-300 articles and do about 200-250 podcasts between the sites I work for. Most of these are on topics that I do not get to choose which limits my ability to write the way I would like to or about the things that challenge me as a writer or a person. I want to make time to create work that means something to me or challenges me.

  • Log Off More

Listen, I am never going to be the guy that doesn’t watch standings or obsess over the games on a day-to-day basis. However, I can be better about how often I am doing these things. Yes, I am going to tune in, but I don’t need to tune in 24/7. I can take time off and not feel anxious or bad about it. This year, I am giving myself permission to log off a bit more often.

  •  Remember What Is Important

While this is last on the list, it is the most important thing. Fantasy is a huge part of my life, but it is not the most important thing. In order to advance in the fantasy industry, I have sacrificed a lot of things, but most importantly, I have taken time away from my wife and children in order to do everything I do. That must change in 2025. I still plan on delivering a lot of content, but they come first and I don’t want my chasing my dream to be the reason I miss out on the things that truly matter. My wife and kids don’t care if I win a league or have a great podcast. They want me to be there when life happens and I need to make that the biggest priority.

What are your resolutions for 2025?
