I’m back from a post-trade deadline vacation (I highly recommend Montréal, by the way!) and there are a whole slew of playing time changes for position players to run through. Let’s get to the table:

On Thursday, I examined the lineups of the eight inactive teams. Today, the other 22 teams get their due.
Angels
• Moisés Ballesteros (.667 OPS, 6 HR) started three straight games, including one at catcher (nine games at C this year). I think he could be a huge waiver wire target, but I’m worried about how well he hits. I suspect the Angels want him to focus on his catching and his bat will lag. We’ll see.
• Since Jo Adell was traded away, Jose Siri (.802 OPS, 6 HR) started three straight games, including one against a righty (he was only facing lefties). Read the rest of this entry »
Discipline at the plate is often a huge driver for success over the course of a season. From a fantasy perspective, it can be difficult to utilize outside of just an overall gauge for a hitter’s success.
I saw an interesting exchange on plate discipline data relating to zone and outside zone swing percentages as an indicator for a potential breakout. I’m writing this before trade deadline day, which means that there’s likely to be a slew of additional hitters who are going to earn increased playing time or be recalled from the minors and immediately serve in a starting role. For now, let’s talk about eight hitters who have seen increased playing time recently or have been recently recalled.
This series aims to help readers conduct their routine due diligence in their dynasty leagues. It makes use of up-to-date OOPSY Peak projections and my own arbitrary whims to discuss a handful of players, both prospects and major leaguers, who may have seen their perceived value shift recently. Any reference to how a player projects using the FanGraphs auction calculator uses these settings (15-team 5×5 SV 2 C) with OOPSY DC (ROS).

Case in point: Alex Bregman’s two-run double in the 10th inning to defeat Winn’s birds and have outs fall into the Webb of Jacob. There were Crooks at the stadium concession, hoping to steal the last Nootbaar, but they were instantly subdued by Aaron Sir Vale in bottom of the 10th, engulfing flames of pride in the Windy City as their Cub runneth over, standing atop the NL Wild Card standings.
