Starting Pitcher Chart – July 28th

Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

Daily SP Chart archive

The chart includes their season performance, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness over the last 30 days, my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them. Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s basically a risky stream for those spots.

These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more value focusing on roto.

Mining the New (7/26/23)

American League

Astros

• The team refuses to update a player’s health information.

This season, two Astros players who’ve battled injuries in the past said Houston trainer Jeremiah Randall discouraged them from speaking to the media about their progress. Altuve — the face of the franchise — ran over to Randall to apparently receive permission before speaking to three reporters in Seattle during his recovery from thumb surgery.

Without insight from the injured players themselves, it is almost impossible to get accurate information about recoveries, leaving Baker in a difficult position every day. Sometimes he erroneously cites HIPAA laws in response to questions. Other times, he arrives and says he hasn’t yet spoken to Randall about the team’s injuries.

Baker has sometimes told reporters to ask Randall the questions he’s fielding. Despite numerous requests, the team has not made Randall available for interviews.

Starting Pitcher Chart – July 27th

  • Update: Minutes after posting I saw that Lucas Giolito was traded to the Angels. This could spell trouble for my guy Silseth! Obviously he should still start tomorrow, but I’m a lottt less bullish on his fantasy prospects in the immediate future than I was just 10 minutes ago. If we’re being honest, it should be Tyler Anderson getting removed given his struggles this year. Well… maybe not. He has a 3.99 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 18% K-BB in his last 6 outings and of course he brings gifts and a various assortment of veteran presents. Enjoy the Detroit start with Silseth, but stay tuned to the news on whether or not he remains in the rotation afterwards.

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – July 26th, 2023

Transcript is below!

1:02

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone, thanks for coming out!

1:02

Guest: is Ty France hurt still/again? he’s barely been a 1 cat contributor (runs) in any format YTD

1:02

Paul Sporer: Yeah he’s been rough. Not sure he’s a must-hold anywhere right now

1:03

Paul Sporer: Sometimes guys play through injury and we don’t learn about it until the end of the year bc they don’t want to make excuses

1:03

Ben: H2H keepers – I know flags fly forever, but would you move three years of minimum priced elly (auction league – $3) for tatis, yordan and gausman? with the increased weekly variance of H2H i’m more hesitant than if it was a roto league.

1:04

Paul Sporer: If you don’t think the upgrades from who you have to Gaus & Yordan (we can call Tatis/Elly even-ish) then I’m OK passing, but it’s the right kind of offer to get someone like Elly

Bullpen Report: July 26, 2023

The 2023 version of the Bullpen Report includes five different sections, as well as the closer chart, which can be found at the bottom of the page.

We will always include a link to the full Closer Depth Chart at the bottom of the Bullpen Report each day. It’s also accessible from the RosterResource drop-down menu and from any RosterResource page. Please let us know what you think.

  1. Notable Workloads: Primary closers or valuable members of a closer committee who have been deemed unavailable or likely unavailable for the current day due to recent workload.
  2. Injury News
  3. Outlier Saves: Explanation for a non-closer earning a save during the previous day.
  4. Committee Clarity: Notes on a closer committee that clarify a pitcher’s standing in the group.
  5. Losing A Grip: Struggling closers who could be on the hot seat.

The “RosterResource” link will take you to the corresponding team’s RosterResource depth chart, which will give you a better picture of the full bullpen and results of the previous six days (pitch count, save, hold, win, loss, blown save).

Click HERE to view the full Closer Depth Chart.

Big Kid Adds (Week 18)

While the NFBC Main Event garners most of the attention, there are a handful of leagues with even a larger entry fee ($2.5K to $15K). They get originally named “High Stakes Leagues” and this year there are nine of them. With so much money on the line, these fantasy managers are going to try to gain any advantage. Most of the time, these managers will be a week or two ahead of everyone else on their adds. Here are the players and some information on the ones added in four or more of these leagues.
