Ottoneu Hot Right Now: August 5, 2026

Hot Right Now (HRN) is a weekly Ottoneu feature focused on popular players currently being auctioned or players who you should think about auctioning in your Ottoneu leagues. Even if you don’t play Ottoneu, we’ll be highlighting players you should be looking at in deeper and keeper formats. In this feature, we will break down players into two sections:

1. Current Auctions: A closer look at players being auctioned at a high rate.
2. Hot Performers: Players with a high P/G or P/IP over the last 14 days who are also rostered in 80% of leagues or less.

The RotoGraphs Ottoneu team plans to run this feature weekly, updating fantasy managers on the biggest movers in Ottoneu leagues with an analysis of how these players could or could not help your roster.

Current Auctions

Ryan Zeferjahn — 54 current auctions — 39.8% roster%

The MLB trade deadline always puts names on our radar. Often there is traded prospect who gets a new level of hype. Or a player who gets swapped into a better park or better situation.

And then we have Ryan Zeferjahn. Zeferjahn’s move is something of a mixed bag. On the one hand, there is a lot more competition for holds and saves in Chicago and Daniel Palencia has been cleared to start a rehab assignment. If he comes back healthy, he’ll likely slot right back into the 9th and push everyone else down a rung.

On the other hand, the Cubs might actually create some save/hold chances for Zeferjahn. Sure enough Tuesday night he came on for the 8th and got a ground out, a pop out and a fly out to earn his first hold in the NL. Not bad, especially given that third out was Shohei Ohtani.

Zeferjahn has been a decent reliever and clearly has the talent to be more, but for Ottoneu he has been pretty unexciting. At 6.36 P/IP, he is the 54th highest P/IP among pitchers with 30+ innings under their belt this year. That’s usually a guy you rush out to get. He has been getting a save or hold ever four innings, roughly, this year; top non-closers tend to be more like a hold every 2-3 innings. The move to the Cubs could help with that. Adding an extra hold every four innings would add 1 P/IP, taking him up to 7.36 or 29th instead of 54th. That might be an overestimate and he’s less likely to get saves going forward.

The real opportunity is that getting out of Anaheim might get him some better (or at least different) coaching. If that can help him maintain his Ks (33.5%) while limiting walks (14.3%), there is definitely enough upside to make him a worthwhile add.

Héctor Rodriguez — 52 current auctions — 52.6% roster%

Rodriguez was just called up by the Reds and is something of a poster child for “call ups who get a ton of auctions.” He is:

• Not a top prospect. He is a 45 FV on The Board but comfortably outside the top 100, so he isn’t universally rostered already.
• Killing Triple-A, to the tune of a 123 wRC+ and a career high 27 HR.
• Coming up to a team that has little reason not to play him.
• Heading to great hitter’s park.

That’s a pretty good recipe for a pile of auctions. Now, are those auctions worth it?

I will say yes, but I am skeptical that he is going to be a difference-maker. As good as he has been, the power is an outlier for his career and the Statcast metrics don’t really support a 30-HR season. I love a prospect who can take a walk (9.2%) and limit K’s (20.4%), which he has done in Triple-A. There is room for those numbers to regress upon his promotion without him turning into a plate discipline liability.

My best guess is that the power is more like a 20 homer pace rather than 30, and even that is generous based on his projections. All of that is worth a flier, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work out.

John Rave — 9.2 FGPts/G (last 14 days) — 2.6% roster%

This feels like cheating because it is only a handful of PA, but the guys who have outperformed him are all either stars of even fewer PA. Rave, at 28, is too old to be a prospect, but he has been brilliant in the minors and is picking up where he left off in Kansas City. There is no reason for KC to not let him get a look — maybe he can establish himself as a viable OF for them moving forward!

A bit like Rodriguez, he limits strikeouts (18.3% in the minors, 22.9% in MLB) and can draw a walk (15.2%; 8.6%), but he doesn’t offer the same power upside as Rodriguez (not even my conservation projection for Rodriguez). He did steal 18 bases before the promotion so there could be some speed to speculate on in 5×5.

If you are desperate for OF help, Rave could be an interesting option. He should play and he has enough of the right skills to go on a hot streak or two and help you out down the stretch.
