Bullpen Report: July 30, 2020

The 2020 version of Bullpen Report includes six different sections, as well as the closer chart, which can be found at the bottom of the page.

    1. Notable Workloads: Primary closers or valuable members of a closer committee who have been deemed unavailable or likely unavailable for the current day due to recent workload.
    2. Injury News
    3. Outlier Saves: Explanation for a non-closer earning a save during the previous day.
    4. Committee Clarity: Notes on a closer committee that clarify a pitcher’s standing in the group.
  1. Losing A Grip: Struggling closers who could be on the hot seat.
  2. Reliever On The Rise: Non-closer who is quickly moving up the depth chart based on potential and recent performance.

The “RosterResource” link will take you to the corresponding team’s RosterResource depth chart, which will give you a better picture of the full bullpen and results of the previous six days (pitch count, save, hold, win, loss, blown save.)

Mining for … Hell, Anything

Playing Time Leaders

Mookie Betts leads the league with 21 plate appearances, but here are some available hitters who have been racking up the playing time.

  • David Fletcher (18 PA): He leads the league in hits (8) and is hitting (.533/.556/.667), so he’s not moving off the top spot for a while. Also, it helps that he’s qualified at four positions (SS/OF/2B/3B)
  • Niko Goodrum (18 PA): He’s leading off, hitting OK (.250/.333/.563), and qualified at three positions (2B/SS/OF). He should at least be a bench bat in all formats.
  • Shed Long Jr. (18 PA), Evan White (18 PA), J.P. Crawford (17 PA), and Kyle Lewis (18): The Mariners offense has been turning itself over and all the hitters have benefited. There are some interesting extreme small samples happening with 13 of 18 Kyle Lewis’s plate appearances ending with a strikeout, walk, or home run. Also, Crawford leads the league in walks (5) and triples.
  • Freddy Galvis (17 PA): The Reds middle-infield options are drying up. Galvis is being forced into everyday at-bats with a .929 OPS to start the season.

10 Tidbits: Week of July 28th

Over the course of the 60-game season I’m going to run a 10 Tidbits piece each week just highlighting 10 pieces of info that I find fantasy relevant. They won’t necessarily be linked and sometimes I might even go past 10. None of them are likely worth their own article so this will essentially be a news & notes piece with a different alliterative name.

Kyle Lewis is Still Crushing the Ball

Lewis smacked 6 HR in 75 PA during his blazing hot cup of coffee last year, but his 39% K and 4% BB rates in that span made some nervous about him coming into 2020. He’s already hit another 2 HR (not has 8 in 93 MLB PA) and while the strikeout rate is still sky high at 44%, his walk rate has jumped to 17%. At worst, we have a Hunter Renfroe-esque profile here with premium power and a mediocre-to-poor batting average. At best, he keeps hitting the ball hard enough to generate a BABIP that outruns his strikeouts and deliver a .250-.270 AVG. Either way, I’m a fan.

Who Is Being Dropped and Why (Week 1)

After using the NFBC Online Championship transactions last week to find those players on the decline, it’s time to get back to analyzing the 38 NFBC Main Event leagues. I like using this overall competition because of the number of identical leagues. Additionally, these leagues stay engaged longer since each owner spent over $1000 for a team.

Also, if anyone forgot about the original series, I tried to find that sweet spot between obvious and bizarre. Just those players who are a tough choice.  I’m mainly going to focus on players dropped in six to nine leagues. Here are those players on the move.
