2017 Ottoneu FGPts Rankings: 2B/SS
Last Friday we kicked off our ottoneu FanGraphs points league rankings. This year the rankings will include values from myself, Justin Vibber, and Chad Young. We are presenting our individual dollar values, the average of all three individuals, plus the ranking of that average. In addition the tables below include ottoneu eligibility (5 games started/10 games played in the prior year). Players are ranked at their most valuable position, and the hierarchy we are using is C/SS/2B/3B/OF/1B (with 3B and OF being a coin toss in terms of replacement level, we chose to include 3B/OF eligibles at 3B).
Prior Rankings: C/1B/3B
Key:
Split – Difference from highest to lowest $ value
Otto.– Average price across Ottoneu FGpts leagues
AVG. – Average $ value from the four of us
(+/-) – Difference between Ottoneu average price and our average $ value

Observations:
- There’s a clear drop after the top 4 with all three of us having different preferences on how to organize the next tier. Chad and I are higher LeMahieu, while Justin prefers Kipnis and Dozier to the Rockies 2B.
- Rougned Odor has the largest value split from my $15 value to Justin’s $23 value. while projections slot him solidly into the 2nd tier of 2B, I prefer most of the other options within that group to him due to plate discipline issues.
- Moncada, Happ, and Calhoun are the 3 2B prospects who make an appearance on these rankings. Not everyone ranked prospects, so I wouldn’t use the aggregate values as a barometer of their expected price.
- While we all ranked nearly similar totals of players, Justin allocated more money to the position. This is most easily seen in the middle tier.

Observations:
- Machado will likely play 3B for most of the season, but he remains the number 1 SS due to his eligibility at the position (thanks JJ Hardy). After him, you have Correa and Seager, then a drop to the next tier.
- Seager and Bogaerts display the biggest splits on our values. Chad has Seager and Turner basically equal. While Justin and I have Seager in a virtual tie for second with Carlos Correa. I am the low man on Bogaerts at $20, putting him at or near the bottom of a very good 3rd tier at SS.
- While we all love Trea Turner at the top of the 3rd tier, much of that tier (Turner, Story, Lindor, Bogaerts, Bregman, Diaz) could be re-ordered depending on preference. All of those options are viable for championship clubs.
- Prospects ranked include Swanson, Torres, Rosario, Crawford, Rodgers, Adames, Barreto, and Albies. (Orlando Arcia and Tim Anderson, while not prospects, could be lumped near the bottom of this group as well.)
- Not everyone ranked SS. Keep in mind the players ranked, not their aggregate values.
