Below is the Outfield installment of our 2016 Ottoneu FGpt rankings.

In the context of Ottoneu, perhaps rankings are a misnomer, because you really want to know the dollar value each player is worth. We’ve included this information for our benefit. In all, these rankings should help to give you a spread of four dollar values for each player, as well as a comparison to average prices (post-arbitration, pre-cut deadline) within the Ottoneu FGpts universe. Each player’s Ottoneu eligibility (5GS, 10 appearances) is included as well, though players are ranked at their most valuable position. If you have questions on a specific ranking, or a question for a specific ranker, feel free to let us know in the comments.

Only players who received a ranking from at least one of the four of us were included. Players not listed are likely post-auction pick-ups ($1 players). The line between a $1 player and a post-auction pick-up is very small.
Each owner has different biases to certain positions. To help illustrate these we’ve included “Total $” and “Total ranked” at the bottom of the table. We hope this helps you pick apart some different owner strategies/biases.
The (+/-) column may be helpful in determining which players may generally be overrated by your league mates.

Wow, he’s so high? Or wow, so low?
More of a wow in how fast he has fallen. In last years Rotographs Positional Ranking he was #4 OF.

Yeah, definitely agree. I think a lot of owners bought in on him as a bounceback in 2015 and he just fell ever further instead. Hard to put much trust in him now. To be fair, these rankings for ottoneu FGPTS will likely value him below 5×5 rankings, because steals are much less valuable (He would never have been the #4 OF to begin with in FGPTS) but no matter how you score it he’s really fallen off.
Does anyone think Harper has some decent risk? As risky as Stanton even.
If he regresses some (plausible) and has one 15 day DL stint (also plausible) he could essentially be J.D. Martinez.
He’s average 535 PA’s a year. 535 PA’s last year would have meant ~34 HR’s.
I absolutely think there is risk with Harper, but we’ve seen his upside, and it is immensely valuable in a FGPTS league. He’s not a safe asset, but very few players are.
Yeah, to me Harper has risk, but also upside at that price. My price for him is the highest and that’s still considering a .410-.420 wOBA. If he repeated last season I think he’d actually be worth MORE than where I have him, but the risk of injury and regression factor in to the price I ended up ranking him at.
I also think Harper is kind of an extreme case in terms of rate production. There’s almost no player I’d rather have than him in a situation where I need to use him for 550 PA and get another 100 from a replacement level scrub. Even at Steamer’s .412 wOBA, he’s still one the few best hitters in the game, and if he approaches anything close to last year’s .460, I would gladly plug in some PA’s from my 6th or 7th OF (targeting someone like Colby Rasmus or Melky Cabrera) to gain the benefit of his extreme production when he’s on the field.
Just to put in in perspective, Harper’s .412 projected wOBA puts him in a near tie with Trout (.418), with nobody else projected over .400. Trout has performed at that level, with slight ups and downs, for each of the past 4 seasons.
Harper put up .460 last year, a whopping 30 points above the next highest player (Votto), and about 50 points above each of Trout’s last four seasons.
30 points was the difference between Mike Trout and David Ortiz/JD Martinez/Matt Carpenter in 2015.
50 points was the difference between Trout and Shin Soo Choo.
I’ll gladly pay an extreme price for the chance to get a player who is so good he makes Trout look like Shin Soo Choo. Even if Harper regresses or isn’t 100% healthy, Steamer still thinks he’s nearly as good as Mike Trout. Sign me up.
Wow. Revere is so low. Don’t see why a guy with his skillset on the Nationals would be so much lower than some of these guys who are platooning at best.
The problem with Revere is that his skillset is just bad for ottoneu (at least FGPTs, which is what we’re ranking here). He has no power and a good chunk of his fantasy value usually comes from steals, which are not valuable in FGPTs. Revere is a solid 5×5 player but in FGPTs there’s just not much to like – we’re not much higher on guys like Denard Span or Kevin Kiermeier, who have similar profiles.
Not sure how to feel that Andrew Benintendi and Manuel Margot and ranked higher than Rusney Castillo and Chris Young…
Have to keep in mind that Ottoneu is a keeper league with 40 man rosters and a deep player pool. Plus, the FanGraphs Points scoring format is based on linear weights, so if Benintendi is a guy with above average power and a skill set to get on base, he’s likely worth more than guys like Castillo and Young, who are bench bats at best. It’s not uncommon to see owners pay more for some prospects than veteran MLB reserves with limited upside.
Whoa, where did all that money for Heyward come from? You guys do know that defense isn’t included in fantasy baseball, right?
Yeah, I’m pretty confident the four of us understand how the scoring works for ottoneu Fangraphs Points (which is based on linear weights and can result in much different player values than traditional 5×5).
Hold on actually I *did* think defense was included, I need to recalculate my list and take Kevin Kiermeier out of my number one slot.
