Sunday Evening FAAB & Waiver Wire Chat

7:31
Jake Junis Priest: Hi! Curious if you’d cut any of Cahill/Y. Chirinos/Shoemaker for Josh James if I need ratios/K’s/W’s or if I should sit tight. Thanks!

7:33
Jeff Zimmerman: Cahill’s start today was killer. I haven’t had a chance to look but all the starters listed should be considered streaming options from here on out.

7:33
Jeff Zimmerman: Since you need everything, you just have to go by the matchup.

7:33
Parts + Gleyber: Cahill’s 6 BBs in 2.2 today had me a little alarmed though I didn’t get to watch it live. He’s got TB this week, but on the road, where he’s struggled. Is it time to jump ship in AL Only?

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman: He may be a drop or bench. I’m a little worried he’s hurt again and when he throws hurt, the results are horrible.

7:35
Jeff Zimmerman: Since he’s with a playoff team, he could say he’s fine but continue to get lit up.

7:35
Trap Gone Hamels: Who do you pick among Melky, Gardner, and Laureano. AL Only, need OBP 1st and RBI 2nd. Thanks!

7:36
Jeff Zimmerman: Gardner as long as he continues to play. Crutch as a wrinkle into the Yankees OF mix.

7:36
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: Is Ryan O’Hearn worth keeping for $5 in deep 12-team AL OBP roto league?

7:37
Jeff Zimmerman: I think so. It’s tough to find keepers in AL-only. I could easily see him go for more than $5 next season if he’s available in the auction.

7:37
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: So Wily Peralta is the best bet to be the Royals’ closer next spring, right?

7:38
Jeff Zimmerman: I don’t think so. I could see them go and get a Rodney closer type. Maybe even bring Herrera back.

7:39
Jeff Zimmerman: Dayton loves his vets like Kyle Farnsworth

7:39
Mike: Does Gary Sanchez turn this around? Seeing much of the same since before the DL stint. Not helping the playoff push on the field or in the fantasy world)

7:40
Jeff Zimmerman: He still may be hurting and he’s not hitting enough to DH. I’m not sure the answer

7:40
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: Does the Fangraphs staff do an office league?

7:41
Jeff Zimmerman: There are 2 or 3 of them. I’m not in one anymore as they are daily transaction leagues, I just do weekly leagues any more.

7:42
Jake Junis Priest: Thanks for the answer! Another one: Do you think Buttrey gets more save opps in LAA? Parker got lifted with 2 on in the 9th today…

7:43
Jeff Zimmerman: I never try to guess what Mike Scioscia will do. It’s so random and by the gut.

7:43
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: Time to throw out Jace Fry?

7:43
Jeff Zimmerman: For who? That bullpen is ugly.

7:43
Dave P: Should I be thinking about dropping Beltre, D.Gordon, Pollock, E.Escobar or K Calhoun for guys like Piscotty, Voit or Villar? 12 team H2H

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: Possibly. It really comes down to the few matchups. I’d take Piscotty over Calhoun and maybe ride Villar’s hot bat over Escobar.

7:46
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: Best future closer in waiting to stash in keeper leagues?

7:47
Jeff Zimmerman: Herrera. Look at the soon to be free agents moved at the trade deadline. I could see Rodney back with the Twins.

7:47
Jake Junis Priest: Re: match-ups, would you run out Shoemaker vs. SEA this week? Thanks!

7:48
Jeff Zimmerman: Yea, I’m not afraid of it.

7:48
John Oleruds Helmet: Mr Jeff!! Oh praise thee!! May they wisdom reverberate across the cosmos!! Would you take a flyer on Christian Stewart the rest of the season?

7:49
Jeff Zimmerman: I will for a week in Tout Wars (we have to start WW pickups for a week): http://baseball7.onroto.com/baseball/webnew/display_bid_reports.pl?tou…

7:49
SporerFan69: Is boxberger done(droppable) yet?

7:50
Jeff Zimmerman: The problem is that who else will close for them. If other options exist (Hunter), pick them up. If not, keep running Box out there.

7:51
Trap Gone Hamels: I like Jorge Lopez alright, but the 8 perfect was very fluky, right? Should I chase him vs. MIN again this week?

7:51
Jeff Zimmerman: No. I’m passing. He’s just not a good pitcher.

7:51
Donkey: Does Joey Votto finish strong?  2 homers in 2 days.

7:52
Jeff Zimmerman: No, I think he is messed up.

7:52
SporerFan69: Would you drop Archer for Josh James? It’s an auction keeper, too which would make James $10 to keep; Archer is due to be thrown back, contract wise.

7:53
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d have James cheap at a $1 or $2. My worry is that James gets the McHugh and Peacock treatment next year and doesn’t start.

7:54
Rickey H: What is Camargo next year?  Starting regular or placeholder? Thanks.

7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: Placeholder for now. He’s an acceptable starting 3B until Riley forces the Braves hand. I think one will be moved at next year’s trade deadline.  Riley or Camargo could be traded for other pieces.

7:56
Francisco Mejia: What are my 2019 stats?

7:57
Jeff Zimmerman: Not good, especially if he isn’t catching. .250 AVG with 15 HRs. The Hit tool is just not developing.

7:58
SporerFan69: Ok, how about simply ROS, Josh James or Chris Archer

7:58
Jeff Zimmerman: James for Wins, Archer for K’s

7:58
Donkey: I need just a few steals to put away my roto league.  I may try to stream, but if not, who do you like best: Dentist, Jankowski, broken-footed Quinn, Gore, Allen, someone else?  Thanks!

8:00
Jeff Zimmerman: Allen is #1, then Jankowski. Gore is a nice Monday-Thursday sub. If you have daily lineups, load up your bench and run out who is playing that day.

8:00
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: Stay away from Chris Archer this offseason unless dirt cheap?

8:02
Jeff Zimmerman: His strikeouts are in play after round 10. I think he’ll be really cheap and could return a decent value

8:02
$11 Worth of Taco Bell: Pro Palka?

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: Yes. I think his value and power are sustainable. He as 21 HR in 381 PA. It’s tough to find 30 HR on the WW.

8:03
The end of the end: Matt Shoemaker’s only been back for two okay starts – not a lot of hits, but not a lot of K’s. Is he worth holding in AL only? Has SEA and likely OAK next.

8:04
Jeff Zimmerman: Yes. He a decent play with so many bad starting pitching WW options.

8:04
Ken Giles Right Hook: Better 2 start pitcher this week: S Gray, Barria, Waino, Valdez or do I pick up none of them?

8:05
Jeff Zimmerman: Valdez and Gray if chasing Wins

8:06
Frank: Hi Jeff.   Ryu and Trevor Williams are free agents in my NL only.  Would you put in a bid for either and drop Pivetta or Castillo?   I am struggling in eRA and need to make up ground.  kOs are tight too in the standings so gotta watch Ks too.

8:06
Jeff Zimmerman: I think Ryu and Pivetta are close in talent. You may need to check the matchups.

8:07
AL-only, 10-team: Is Thaiss worth a claim?

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: For 2018, no

8:07
wain: sitting in 2nd and losing ground in nfbc league. you consider streaming wainright or gonzales in a 2 start week?

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: Gonzales. Waino is done for.

8:08
Philip Christy: Should I start Donaldson and bench Correa this week? Correa’s done nothing recently.

8:09
Jeff Zimmerman: I don’t like either going forward. I think Correa is still hurt and Donaldson could sit a couple games. If it was only these two, I’d start Correa but don’t feel good about it

8:09
The FAAB Four: Carlos Rodon worth keeping at $9 in standard AL only keeper leagues?

8:09
Jeff Zimmerman: yes

8:09
The FAAB Four: Will Justin Anderson close at some point?

8:10
Jeff Zimmerman: Again: I never try to guess what Mike Scioscia will do. It’s so random and by the gut.

8:10
Tom: Votto faces 6 lefties this week and is in all liklihood playing hurt. Would you consider benching him for a hot bat like Voit or White in a weekly points league?

8:11
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d have no problems benching Votto at this point. He could head back to the DL at any point.

8:11
The FAAB Four: Will Moncada continue to disappoint?

8:11
Jeff Zimmerman: He needs to find a way to hit.

8:12
Matt: Bruce, Sano, Choi or Yairo Munoz?  Just need some production

8:13
Jeff Zimmerman: I was looking at the same group of players in a league. I like Choi and Munoz based on their current playing time. Consider the Orioles Stewart if available.

8:13
NL-only, 10-team: Is Jason Vargas worth a claim? Next start vs. Miami, plus 4.19 xFIP in second half…

8:13
Jeff Zimmerman: For next week, yes

8:14
Rocco: Please rank:  Calhoun, Bader, Renfroe, Dozier

8:14
Jeff Zimmerman: Bader, Renfroe, Kole Calhoun, Dozier, Willie Calhoun

8:14
Rocco: Is German Marquez now a must start pitcher?

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: He’s an 80% guy for me. There are a few times I’d sit him at home.

8:15
Chip: Would you rather use Giolito this week than Cahill?

8:16
Jeff Zimmerman: Is playing with broken glass an option?

8:16
Jeff Zimmerman: Giolito but I don’t like it.

8:16
Rocco: Do you believe in the recent version of Steven Matz?

8:18
Jeff Zimmerman: As a low 4.00’s ERA starter, yes. He’s a nice end of the rotation starter

8:20
Jeff Zimmerman: That’s it for this week. Good luck as the season winds down.
