Quick Hits
Tommy White left Tuesday’s game with a back injury.
He is expected to miss a few days and then hopefully will be able to return. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Various News and Notes
Spencer Jones went 2-for-3 with a home run and stolen base in the victory over the Angels on Tuesday.
Jones has hit .245/.320/.451 with nine home runs and nine stolen bases in 206 plate appearances. The contact issues are still there with a 19% swinging strike rate and a 75% z-contact leading to a 35% strikeout rate. However, the power/speed combination is tantalizing if he can improve the hit tool.
Lazaro Montes went 2-for-4 with his first career home run in the victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Montes was amazing in the minors, hitting 38 home runs and stealing eight bases in 542 plate appearances. He did strike out at a 30% clip which is concerning, but the power is immense and he should get plenty of chances to pump some life into an anemic offense in Seattle.
Thomas Saggese went 2-for-3 with two home runs in the victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Saggese had just been called up after the Cardinals lost JJ Wetherholt. He doesn’t have a ton of power, but he does have a good hit tool and some speed and should play every day down the stretch.
Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.
Lawlar has only been able to play in 24 games this season due to injuries but he has been good when he is on the field, hitting .288/.358/.479 with four home runs and stealing four bases in 82 plate appearances. The talent has never been in question, but he has struggled to stay on the field. He could be a difference maker down the stretch and in 2027 if he can stay healthy.
Angel Martinez went 2-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Blue Jays.
Martinez has been hot as of late, but there hasn’t been a lot of power or speed to go along with it. He doesn’t play enough to warrant rostering in shallower formats, but his multi-positional eligibility is useful as a bench bat in deeper formats.
