Trades!
Yesterday marked the passage of the non-waiver trade deadline and there were plenty of fireworks. For in depth coverage of the prospects traded, check out this post by Eric Longenhagen and Kiley McDaniel.

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired Tommy Pham from the St. Louis Cardinals for Genesis Cabrera, Justin Williams, and Roel Ramirez and then traded Chris Archer to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Austin Meadows, Tyler Glasnow, and a player to be named later. Pham will likely become the everyday right-fielder for the Rays, while Austin Meadows has already been demoted to give him everyday at bats. Archer becomes the ace of the Pirates and will likely benefit from moving to the NL and PNC Park. Glasnow is expected to return to a starters role for Tampa Bay. The Rays also traded Wilson Ramos to the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later. Ramos has been a great value at catcher and if healthy, he gets a nice boost from the park change.

The Baltimore Orioles traded Kevin Gausman to the Atlanta Braves for Jean Carlos Encarnacion, Bruce Zimmerman, and Brett Cumberland and then traded Jonathan Schoop for Jonathan Villar, Luis Ortiz, and Jean Carmona. Schoop is expected to move to shortstop for the Brewers, while this is nice for Schoop’s value, it may not be great infield defense with him at short and Travis Shaw playing second. Villar gains some value, once he returns from the DL, because he should get to play everyday in Baltimore, but the Orioles have been towards the bottom of the Majors in stolen bases over the last few seasons.

The Dodgers have acquired Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins for Logan Forsythe, Devin Smelter, and Luke Railey. The also picked up John Axford from the Blue Jays. Forsythe should get to play everyday which boosts his value while Dozier gets the benefit of the Dodgers lineup around him, but this will be interesting to see how the Dodgers lineup is rolled out everyday. This likely leads to some playing time crunches, especially once Justin Turner returns.

Brad Ziegler was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks for Tommy Eveld. Jake Diekman has also been acquired from the Texas Rangers for Wei-Chieh Huang and a player to be named later. Both Ziegler and Diekman might have had a little fantasy value moving forward, Jose Leclerc looks to be the next man up as closer in Texas.

The Cleveland Indians acquired Leonys Martin and Kyle Dowdy from the Detroit Tigers for Willi Castro. The Indians have been linked to a number of more high profile outfielders, but Martin was fairly cheap and is having a nice rebound season.

Various News and Notes
J.A. Happ was diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease. This is the second case in the last couple of weeks that a pitcher has been diagnosed with this (Noah Syndergaard.) For those that don’t know what it is, it is a highly contagious infection that you should not google to see pictures of. It is not dangerous, but the Yankees will likely want to keep Happ away from the team to prevent this from spreading. Seriously, I told you not to google it.

Chris Sale was placed on the DL with shoulder inflammation. There was no indication in his last start that he was in pain or struggling, so this news came by surprise. Hopefully it doesn’t keep him out longer than the minimum 10 days.

George Springer left Tuesday’s game with a shoulder injury. The Astros are characterizing the injury as “soreness” so hopefully this is more precautionary than anything else.

Hail Mary Options: Mike Fiers vs CIN, Sal Romano @ DET, Dylan Covey vs KC

This one is risky, but Richards has been fantastic as of late.
