Rangers Bullpen

Sam Dyson was placed on the 10-day DL with a bruised ego (or a hand contusion.) The closer position appears to be Matt Bush’s job to lose for the near future. However, adding to cloudiness of the situation is Keone Kela who was recalled from team imposed exile in AAA Round Rock for an incident in Spring Training. Kela becomes an interesting add in AL only or deep formats where you may be chasing saves.

Various News and Notes

Matt Carpenter was scratched from Monday’s game due to a swollen finger. Carpenter hurt the digit on in Sunday’s game when fielding a groundball. This doesn’t appear to be too serious, but it was kind of a slow news day.

Rich Hill was officially placed on the 10-day DL again for blister issues. No timetable is officially set, but one would think that the Dodgers would be more cautious this time around to hopefully help prevent any recurrence.

Marcus Semien, who was placed on the DL yesterday, got news that he in fact has a fracture in his ailing hand. He will get surgery to repair the fracture and will not be evaluated for another 6 weeks. Chances are that Semien will not be back until late june or early July at the earliest. It has also been reported that the A’s top prospect Franklin Barreto will not be considered for a call up after as a replacement for Semien. Barreto will most likely not arrive until after the projected Super Two line in July.

Jung Ho Kang has had the date for his appeals hearing set. Kang, who was denied a visa, is facing 8-month in a South Korean jail which has been suspended for two years. Even if he is able to get a reduced sentence or even have the charges diminished or thrown out, Kang still faces an uphill battle to get back to Major League Baseball. On top of the multiple DUI arrests he has faced in South Korea, there are reports of DUI charges in other countries, and there is still an investigation in Chicago for an alleged sexual assault.

Matt Kemp is on track to return to the Braves on Wednesday after a minimum stay on the DL. The 32-year-old in a 50-year-old’s body appears to be fully over the hamstring injury that has sidelined him early in the season.

Carlos Correa was out once again due to a sore hand which was hit by a pitch on Saturday. Correa had previously said that there was a 99% chance he’d be in the lineup on Monday. This appears to be nothing, but keep an eye on it just in case. If Correa were to hit the DL, Alex Bregman owners could have a shot at him regaining shortstop eligibility as he would potentially fill that role in Correa’s absence.

Gregory Polanco missed his third consecutive game with a groin injury. This is more potentially concerning considering the new 10-day DL rules. If the problem persists, do be surprised to see him go for a short DL stint.
