Player Caps are Live!!
Our annual Player Caps went live on the site yesterday for your viewing pleasure! The bulk of players profiled have both a Profile and Quick Opinion. The former dives into their skills and outlook for about 200-250 words while the latter is more of a fantasy baseball focused summation of the player, often including direct fantasy advice about investing in them (or not). Some players didn’t really need a full on Profile so they only got the Quick Opinion and in many of those cases, there is no particular advice because they aren’t fantasy viable regardless of league type.
It will default to 2018, but you can click through their catalog of previous profiles, too. Here’s what you should see when go to a player’s page with a profile:

One of the best features of the Quick Opinions is that they’re viewable from the projections pages if you mouse over the little icon as you can see here:
The caps are still being updated. Some didn’t transfer over in the initial run through so they are being added in. When we started these Ohtani didn’t have a player page so he wasn’t included. I’m actually finishing his right after I post this. Others of unsigned players will be updated once they finally land. And finally, notable prospects will be updated using Eric Longenhagen’s team reviews for the profile followed by a Quick Opinion from yours truly so if a team isn’t done yet, they won’t have a profile.

Yes, very happy to see the profiles are back. Last year I bought the BP Annual, Shandler’s book and one of the Fantasy mags – and I really believed the Fangraphs write-ups were the best of the bunch!

Hey Paul. These are great, thank you! Noticed Anthony Rendon and Ronald Acuna are missing.
I’m workin on that. They’re written (well Rendon, Miggy, Mazara, and a few others who didn’t pull through the first time are, but Acuna and other notable prospects will come via Longenhagen’s prospect reports as he posts), I just need to let the tech team know they’re not pulling through right now.

If I could offer one bit on constructive criticism: the quick opinion are a little too straight to traditional fantasy. Rather than ” it’s unlikely he would contribute much to fantasy” I’d prefer see how a player isn’t very good. Not everybody’s league or even style of game is the same so “not fantasy relevant” is a huge sliding scale.
