Paul Sporer: Yes, unfortunately. Just no pop & now not playing. Loved him coming into the season but it’s just not working right now

Kate: 1 catcher OBP dynasty league.  Need to drop one of Grandal, Garver or Elias Diaz when Garver is activated.  Who’s your drop?

Paul Sporer: Probably Garv, wanna ride out the Diaz hot streak

Tiger Beat: I’ve been trying to ride the hot hand between Andy Ibanez and Nick Maton, but I’m losing. Do you like either in an OBP league?

Paul Sporer: Not reallyyyy, no

HarryLime: Drop Kopech after this start because of future mad schedule?

Paul Sporer: In anything less than 15 tms, I’m OK w/that if you don’t have the reserve. I know he’s been great today & last time out, but I’m still skeptical in tough matchups

Clint Collector: Clint Frazier is back. How deep of an OBP league is he rosterable, from 12-team to AL Only to Frazier Only?

Paul Sporer: Yeah that’s deep enough

robert: Have Blackburn coming off IL in next few weeks. Order for ROS? Bobby Miller, Oviedo, Blackburn

Paul Sporer: The order you listed ’em

Jim Leyland Palmer: Is Morel a sell “high” at all costs guy? Obviously enjoying the run, but all the metrics and advice say this is not remotely sustainable. But is there a foundation for a useful top 100 hitter ROS here when he enviably cools down? If no ones trying to buy him, its hard be offering him around and expect a great return. Would you be fine keeping him or would it be a missed opportunity not to sell now?

Paul Sporer: Sell high if you can, but otherwise ride it out and be ready to move on when the weak plate skills catch up & he cools down. He wasn’t this hot last yr, but we saw him run hot & fade hard. I expect similar this year

reggie: you buying in on conforto assuming he stays healthy or do you just view this as a hot streak?

Broken Bat: Conforto.  Hot week or coming back to life?

Paul Sporer: Power stroke looks back, I’m buying into this and picking him up where available (36% at Yahoo!)

Cleveland Steamers: Time to cut bait on Andres Gimenez? He’s been riding my bench for almost a month now and just looks awful. Drop for DeJong or Caballero?

Paul Sporer: Yeah I’m OK cutting in 12s and lower, probably still holding in a 15 as I do think the .266 BABIP will regress and he’s still pacing for 11 HR/25 SB despite the ugly slash line. Gotta play more hot hands in shallower formats, though, so he can go for DeJong

Frank Thomas the Tank Engine: Is Griffin Canning usable in standard AL only leagues? The waiver wire is bare to say the least.

Paul Sporer: Oh for sure. I think he’s rosterable in some mixers so definitely an AL only guy

May Day: Trevor May is back in the bigs. Is he the Oakland reliever to own for saves? (Trick question: they don’t get saves!)

Paul Sporer: Yeah sure, but like you said, you’re not getting anything much w/OAK

reggie: today aside, whats up with adames? whats your concern level out of 10? hes been pretty tough to roster (in shallow leagues)

Paul Sporer: He’s just gotta get his punch back. Maybe today can be the start of doing so. That’s really the only difference, but it’s a big one with a 10-pt HardHit rate drop. Still has 9 HR/4 SB so while the AVG does suck, he’s not a total fantasy dud

Jim Leyland Palmer: Should I believe in Berrios as a decent arm to roster in a 10tmer?

Paul Sporer: Yes, he’s an all formats start for me

Hank Scorpio: I have a contingency trade being considered: my Alcantara/Vargas for their India/Reynolds, the catch being Sandy needs to perform well in Denver today. No question here, I want the trade, just prayers for Sandy

Paul Sporer: I’m still bought in on Sandy. I just don’t think he’s anywhere near a 5.00 ERA guy

I Used to be Mel Clark: Which middle infielders do you like more ROS out of Paul DeJong, Christopher Morel, and Rodolfo Castro. 16 team, OBP league. Thanks, Paul!

Paul Sporer: I wouldn’t focus ROS w/any of them. Those are streamer hitters who will have major hot & cold streaks. Ride the Morel train right now and adjust when he inevitably comes down

Marcus: What do you make of Castellanos? I drafted him hoping for a rebound, but he doesn’t look much different (high BABIP/inflated BA aside) from 2022. Roughly where would you rank him ROS among OF in a 12 team 5×5 (OPS instead of BA) mixed?

Paul Sporer: At least the AVG is up but yeah I was hoping for the power to come back and it just hasn’t. His FB rate is down 12 pts which explains the trade of HRs for base hits. Approx. a Top 40 OF?

Farhandrew Zaidman: Bobby Miller. No question, just Bobby Miller.

Paul Sporer: Fantastic debut!

HarryLime: Any hope for Burnes? I mean 4 dingers!!!

Paul Sporer: I won’t rule out improvement, but it’s starting to look like this isn’t going to be an ace season. Not really actionable, though, bc I’m still starting him everywhere

Matt: James Paxton – top 50 SP ROS?

Paul Sporer: If his health cooperates, I can see it, yes

LFC Mike: Paul. Thoughts on Kirilloff ROS? Playing time issues when Kepler returns? Thank you

Paul Sporer: No I think they’re bought in on a healthy Kirilloff so when available, he plays. I just hope he can stay healthy bc I really like the player, just didn’t draft him anywhere bc of his wrists made of shredded cheese… I don’t even know what that means and yet it feels like an apt description

Justin Mason: What’s wrong with me?

Paul Sporer: This is just a regular chat, not a marathon one so I won’t have time for allllll that

Guest: Jo adell and Nolan Jones will they play MLB 2023?

Paul Sporer: At some point, I’d assume so, yes

reggie: we see this every year with paul dejong. any hopes that some of it will stick with the new shift rules?

Paul Sporer: Probably not. He’s just a streaky guy who looks excellent when hot and like he should be in High-A when he’s cold

Houck: Kluber going to the bullpen, so they’ve got some confidence in Houck. Do you?

Paul Sporer: Yeah I’ve got some. The stuff is there and he shows his upside for periods of time. Still kinda learning on the fly how to be a good, consistent MLB starter

Paul Sporer: Even when I’m not starting Houck, I bench him instead of cutting bc I believe in his upside

Steven Seagal: Hey Paul, appreciate the chat as always! I’m pretty set on pitching but need hitters. I’ve shopped around and got offered a few deals. My Bieber and ober for his J. Lowe. My Sandy and Arcia for their Gorman. My Ober for their verdugo and either Sewald or Jhoan Duran. Any of those seem worth it? 12tm 5×5 standard league

Paul Sporer: Bieber AND Ober?! No shot. That Sandy offer is criminal! The 2nd Ober deal is more fair, but Verdugo isn’t going to move the needle enough if you’re in big need of bats. I realize Bieber’s Ks are down, but he should be enough for Lowe as a 1-for-1 IMO

Dylan Cease: Am I droppable in shallower league formats?

Paul Sporer: For who? Any drop questions really need to include who you’re picking up. I doubt you’re getting anyone w/his upside and you almost certainly have more cuttable guys on the roster

Kate: Where has Ian Happ’s power gone this year and last?  Is this just who he is now (good OBP, moderate pop)?

reggie: where did happs power go? he’s all of the sudden turned into an empty batting avg/ walk guy. are you okay moving on in shallow leagues?

Paul Sporer: (Those were actually back-2-back!)

Paul Sporer: We’re 800+ PA into this solid-but-unspectacular power profile and I tend to think it’s indicative of who he is these days

Frank Thomas the Tank Engine: Is this the start of Jose Ramirez age decline? He’s still productive but both power and speed are down. Should I sell shares to patch multiple holes while he will still fetch a premium?

Paul Sporer: No, he’s like a HR & SB away from being at his 2022 paces. The RBIs are way down but that’s bc the Guardians offense sucks. I’m inclined to hold J-Ram

Steve: Is Taylor Ward droppable in 5 OF leagues (12 team) h2h categories?  Other options on the w.w. are Taveras, Senzel, Doyle, Raley, Wisdom, Larnach, Moniak, Berti, Dom Fletcher, Pratto

Paul Sporer: Yeah, you can pick the best upcoming matchups or guy that best fits your needs. Ward is cuttable in 12s, though

Schmidt Canning: Two guys you’ve expressed curiosity about–Houck and Canning–pitched well this week. Are you back in? Deep league, cut would be Schmidt or Sears. Thanks!

Paul Sporer: Yeah I was cautious on starting either in their respective matchups v. the explosive LAA & BOS offenses, but I’d take either over Schmidt. Probablyyy over Sears, too, bc while I do like Sears a bit, his W probability is non-existent

Kate: Is Wiemer’s glove good enough to keep him in the lineup for a while while he works out the kinks with the bat?

Paul Sporer: He’s teetering. A 71 wRC+ is tough to swallow but playing a legitimately strong CF certainly helps. Probably needs to be in at least the upper-80s to keep getting consistent PT

Number 6 Ogre: Expectations for when Civale is back?

Paul Sporer: Business as usual if healthy — solid streamer in deeper formats w/occasional shallow lg potential in the right matchup or a good 2-step

Eury-ka!: Eury Perez looks awesome but how many innings can we expect him to throw before getting shut down? Worth dealing him away for M. Kelly or J. Montgomery? (10-team NL-only, H2H)

Paul Sporer: Impossible to guess w/out the team already giving us some insights, but he only threw 77 IP last yr & has 45 this yr. I could see around 120 or so? I’d be open to the trade bc his impact in the IP he does throw has some major upside

Barria: Jaime Barria did well for the Halos the other night. Gets the white sox next. How does he compare rank-wise with Canning for you?

Paul Sporer: I’ve always had a soft spot for Barria! Maybe it’s the good birria tacos I’ve had in my day influencing me, but he has bouts of quality before and I can definitely see some stream appeal. I favor Canning a bit, but Barria is firmly on my streaming radar

Kate: Have we come full circle on Bassitt?  Is his value all the way back to where it was before the ST velo drop at this point?

Paul Sporer: Certainly should be. Had some BB issues after that season opening dud but looks like normal Bassitt lately and I’m trusting him in most spots as I was coming into the season

Number 6 Ogre: Are you still a Bieber believer?

Paul Sporer: I am, yes. Even w/the drop in Ks, I’m still starting him everywhere pretty comfortably. I definitely wish his Ks would at least return to last yr’s level let alone previous levels, but he continues to find success despite  some of the skill giveback

Marty McFly: Who you taking to fill your last bench spot Gurriel or Suzuki?

Paul Sporer: Suzuki, loved him coming into the season

Matt W.: Michael Kopech is my hero.

Paul Sporer: Looks brilliant again today! Wonderful matchup and he’s taking full advantage. I’m still not blindly starting him & did co-sign possibly just cutting him after this start though I took the chatter’s word for it re: the upcoming schedule being hard. That said, it’s LAA next but then DET/MIA. So I retract that cut co-sign and I’d bench v. LAA and likely start v. DET/MIA

Christopher Morel: Did you know that the wind speed created by my swinging strike rate powers Wrigley Stadium?

Paul Sporer: It’s actually been expanding to powering the entire Chicago Land area

Organic Heinz: Who do you expect to be better RoS between Luzardo and Jo Montgomery for total IP, total K’s and ratios?

Paul Sporer: Luzardo, when it doubt Ks win for me

Dave: Both Ober and Logan T. Allen have somewhat challenging schedules coming up– any preference between the two?

Paul Sporer: Lean Ober’s way, he needs to keep those HRs in check

guest: are you concerned about Trea Turner prolonged slump to start the year?

Paul Sporer: Not really, no. The tough part is that even if I was, there’s nothing actionable about it. There is no format where I’m close to sitting Turner for a single day let alone doing anything more drastic

Dave: Moniak– is he fools gold, “should be on someone’s team, even if not yours,” or PICK HIM UP YESTERDAY?  Thinking for relatively standard 12-team, mixed leagues here…

Paul Sporer: Someone’s team, even if not yours to ride the hot streak. He is definitely going to come crashing down w/these skills but I’m willing to see where it goes right now

Adames: Is the big drop in Hard hit rate a sign of an injury?

Paul Sporer: It certainly could be. One of those injuries that guys play through and then we learn later it was dragging him down

Paul Sporer: Did he have any injury that was a day-to-day thing at any pt this year? Some of those non-IL injuries can sneakily linger

Tommy: Any concern about Vinnie P?

Paul Sporer: None. Power is up. AVG is down, but looks heavily BABIP-related.

HarryLime: I think it’s DET/NYY for Kopech next.

Paul Sporer: I was counting games not days so yes it could be at NYY instead of v. MIA. I’d still hold off on the preemptive cut. Definite sit v. LAA for me but then re-assess depending how that game goes

bleepbloop: 7×7 10 tm keeper league (5×5+OBP,SLG,K/BB,QS), I have Bieber, Ohtani, Bryce Miller, Cole, Castillo, Merrill Kelly 켈리 and Eovaldi.  Do I need to try to sell on Bieber? I’ve always liked him but statcast and everyone else seems to hate him and says to sell high 🙁

Paul Sporer: You certainly can as you aren’t super reliant on him w/that staff. Might not get a ton of big offers, though, as everyone realizes his Ks are lagging so the offers might come in light

elehuris montero: Am I coming back soon?  Pretty hot down in AAA.  Think I can make an impact?

Paul Sporer: Yeah he’s blistering the ball in AAA. I’d say I’m surprised that he’s not back up, but it’s Colorado, I’m more surprised when they don’t do the dumb thing. Solid pwr hitter in Colorado intrigues me when he returns

rocky colavito: Tristan McKenzie returning in a week.  Who to drop amongst DeSciafani, Varland, and T. Wells?

Paul Sporer: I’m a Wells fan but in that trio, he’s last. His ratios are going to regress and that HR rate could make it painful (though the home park helps mitigate some of that risk)

Schilling & Pence: Time to cut bait on MJ Melendez?

Paul Sporer: In 1-C leagues for sure. Not sure I’m getting anything better to take shot on in 2-C leagues, though so probably riding it out a bit longer (2-3 wks before checking in again)

Colton: Got a roster crunch in my 8 man dynasty league. Have to active Bobby Miller by Tuesday next week but the only pitcher not performing is Grayson. Would you do it to not lose Miller? If I don’t activate him by Tuesday he goes out on the wire.

Paul Sporer: If I’m backed into that corner, I’m going Miller right now

Salty: Ty O’Neil’s back still bothering him…did he hurt it from a swing or from Marmol riding him day after day?

Paul Sporer: When in doubt, blame Marmol… dude is annoying lol

Darin Ruf 러프 House: Any hope for Brady Singer?

Paul Sporer: He’s just a standard streamer. Pick some spots w/him, but don’t get caught up in 2022’s performance as that was more a run-hot season for his skills than actual skill improvement over his 2020-21 version

Vince: 10-tm H2H category, need a 3B eligible bat (Henderson killing me), which SP of Heaney, Senga, Morton would you trade and which of Gorman or Muncy would you want back? Thanks!

Paul Sporer: I’d do a Muncy-for-Morton deal for sure. I’d take Muncy for any of ’em tbh

Chourio: Am i up this year?  Before September?   They still have me in AA.

Paul Sporer: Maybe, but I’d bet against. I won’t say 0 chance, but he’s not someone I’d be stashing or anything. He only has a 92 wRC+ in AA

Mack L: Should I drop Patrick Sandoval for E-rod? Due to salary constraints, I would also have to drop Winker (who rarely plays for me) and temporarily play with an open roster spot.

Paul Sporer: Yes I’m good w/that and ZERO issue merking Winker

Guest: With all the Tampa breakouts, Harold Ramirez seems “under the radar”. He’s hitting the ball hard, 92% xba, and has dramatically increased his launch angle (up above 10%, 2x previous years). Why isn’t he getting the fantasy love others in that lineup are??

Paul Sporer: Yeah I feel like he should be right there in the Yandy Diaz lovefest. Mention one, mention the other. Both were guys who were very skilled but lacked the power to super fantasy relevant prior to this year. Yandy is getting his love, but Ramirez remains a bit overlooked (and Diaz has been appreciably better, but Ramirez deserves love & more than a 49% roster rate at Yahoo!)

Rickey: How much more rope should we give Michael Harris? Do you think there are underlying health issues there?

Paul Sporer: Wasn’t the biggest Harris fan coming into the season, but still can’t cut him just yet. He hasn’t even eclipsed 100 PA yet. I understand if you’re benching, but it’s too early to cut IMO

Riding with rooker: How much longer should i give rooker? I’ve tried to shop him but haven’t gotten any bites and having him and teoscar in my OF has been painful recently

Paul Sporer: He was always going to come crashing back to earth w/his swing-and-miss. We’ve seen it on display in May w/a .634 OPS. I’m not against cutting for someone else before he sinks further. Power can hold all yr, but w/a poor AVG and horrendous R/RBI on that team

KL: Eduardo Rodriguez. Hold and see what happens or sell high? (14 team standard)

Paul Sporer: If you really can sell high, but I’d be surprised if he was seen as anything other than himself (a solid mid-rotation arm w/a mid-to-high 3.00s ERA outlook)

Kate: I’m guessing this is probably a career year that we’re seeing for Arozarena, but is there anything here that could stick in terms of sustained improvement?

Paul Sporer: Much better plate skills, tattooing the ball and while the .350 BABIP is kinda high, it’s only slightly above his career .342 mark

Guest: Should I trade Corbin Burnes for Soto? My pitching is way ahead of offense, but Burnes at a good keeper price while Soto is not. 12 team 6×6 w/ OPS and QS

Paul Sporer: Yes I’d definitely take that

Colton: Report came out that the White Sox are going to try Burger out at 2b. How much of a bump would that positional flexibility give him moving forward?

Paul Sporer: I think Justin was mentioning that for when Moncada returns. That kinda pop at MI could be sharp. I’ve always like Burger. If he can stay healthy & playing, he’s a major HR threat

dave in slc: higher on miller or stone ros? i need to replace May

Paul Sporer: Definitely Miller and that’s not just an overreaction to their MLB samples, I liked Miller more for this yr coming into the season

Farhandrew Zaidman: Is defense just not an organizational priority for the White Sox? Burger at 2B, really?

Paul Sporer: It’s not like Alberto is picking it all that well over there and his bat is markedly worse

Dave: Another 0-4 for Heim today and in a bit of a slump over the last couple weeks.  Did the league catch up to whatever changes he’d made, or is this just an “ehhh… it’s a long season” cold spell?

Paul Sporer: The latter, IMO. Figured he’d come down from the blistering April. Think he can be a solid high-.700s/low-.800s OPS guy the rest of the way

Kevin: Is the JD Martinez renaissance real, or just a hot streak? Statcast looks great.

Paul Sporer: Yeah the power surge looks legit and he’s raking vRH, I’m in!

Knoblauch: 2B is barren even in 12 team mixed.  Anybody to dream on among Cabellero, Valdez, Owen M, McKinstry?

Paul Sporer: McKinstry & Owen Miller have been showing some things to get me a little intrigued, especially w/the SBs

Guest: Jack Flaherty worth a pick up in 12tm leagues?

Paul Sporer: Sure, I don’t trust him all that much but at CLE/at PIT for his next 2 is streamer worthy

LightSABR: MJ Melendez or A. Kirk ROS?

Paul Sporer: Kirk

JV: Why wouldn’t they just move Moncada to 2B?

Paul Sporer: That’s what I said! Maybe they prefer him at 3B and want to essentially hide Burger at 2B??

Jon: Outman’s been pretty bad for a month now. Time to move on in 14 or 15 teamers, or do you think he turns it around?

Paul Sporer: Reluctant to cut just yet, but always figured the extreme swing & miss would catch him to him after the blazing April. Probably still reservable in lgs that deep, but if there’s someone you love on the wire and he’s your only cut, I’m not gonna crush the move

Stick to Sporer-tzball: Would you sell low on Michael Harris while he still has ROY name recognition? 12 team keeper mixed

Paul Sporer: Yeah, I’m down w/that

Bob: Do you think the O’s call up Westburg soon and how do you think he will perform when he gets the nod?

Paul Sporer: He’s blasting AAA right now and Mateo’s bat has evaporated after the fast start (though I imagine his glove is a good bit better than Westburg’s). His power might not fully translate as a righty going to Camden, but I’d be interested in him in 12s & deeper upon arrival

Marty McFly: Does Varsho have keeper value in your opinion (12 team, 5 keepers) if he loses C eligibility next year?

Paul Sporer: Yeah he’s good enough to be a starting OF even w/out the C intrigue. I’d draft him a bit later, but still like him overall

Bob: Zack Greinke, is he washed up?

Paul Sporer: He’s been washed! Still good for some solid outings, but the downside risk is rarely worth betting on the upside since he Ks so few

Amed Rosario: Am I best left on waivers in 12 tms?

Paul Sporer: Yeah, it’s super empty speed right now

Baseball Activities: Are you ready to give up on Teoscar? Would pick up Conforto

Paul Sporer: Yeah no issues there. I was soft on Teoscar heading to Seattle this year anyway so getting a solid power bat like Conforto for him makes sense to me

Eldridge Cleaver: What do you expect from Tyler Glasnow ROS?

Paul Sporer: Like 50 IP. I love Glasnow and want to see him succeed but I just don’t have confidence in him to be a reliable arm for any period of time

Stinky: Alex Bregman…Am I going to be any good this year??

Paul Sporer: Thought the power would be there this yr given how he looked after the break last yr but his ISO is down to .137, easily a career-low, along w/an invisible .218 BABIP. The latter should regress, but I’m worried about the power. All that said, I’m still rolling w/him in 12s or deeper and reluctant to cut anywhere though not above a sit in some shallower lgs

Bob: Are the Cards monkeying around with Liberatore, a SP that is available to RP? No wonder the team is under performing.

Paul Sporer: Yes, they’re so annoying, lol. I hate everything Marmol does (even if it’s not all his choice, I blame him for all of it, lol)

Jason: I’m new to fantasy and still trying to find my bearing. I was offered Bryan Reynolds for Kershaw. I’m inclined to decline the trade though I have decent rotation depth. I’m considering counteroffering Zack Wheeler for Arozerena. Would you recommend I do that?

Paul Sporer: I’d probably pass on the Kershaw deal and while your counter isn’t bad, it likely won’t get accepted since Arozarena has been SOOO good. If your counter is declined (and it likely will be) maybe try Kershaw for Arozarena? Or Wheeler for Reynolds?

Jack: Everyone knows Morel is a sell-high.. the question is, who do you even sell for? What are some realistic names that you propose 1-for-1 that you think are a comfortable win for a guy that everyone is wary of trading for? Gunnar Henderson? Yelich?

Paul Sporer: He’s hard to sell high bc most ppl realize he has to come down from here, but I’d take Yelich for sure. Not sure I’d do the Gunnar deal

David: Has there been any more word on Mason Miller and his injury timetable?

Paul Sporer: Nothing that I’ve seen. I’m skeptical about any fantasy impact rest of way

Ambiturner: Hi Paul, Walsh or Seth Brown ROS? Ryne Nelson, Carrasco, Canning or Megill ROS? Thank you.

Paul Sporer: I lean toward Seth Breezy. He’s on the muuuuuccchhh worse team but offers pop and a bit of speed. Canning is my favorite of those pitchers

E: Try to sell eury perez for starling marte in a 12 team roto with a QS category and 200 max team sp starts?

Paul Sporer: I’d take Marte. Love Perez overall, but hard to see him being fantasy viable all season and I do expect Marte’s BABIP to regress & get his AVG back on track along w/the speed he’s already showing

Pres: First veto fight in years in the league last week — Morel + Yandy for Jose Ramirez.  Bad trade imo and between top team and last place (Ramirez on last place team), but short of collusion — does something like this seem to rise to the level of SO bad that it feels justified for a veto in a league that does allow a veto for something that seems non-competitive?

Paul Sporer: I wouldn’t trade J-Ram in that scenario, but it’s nowhere near vetoable unless they’re colluding like you said. Otherwise, it’s just impressing values on someone else. Veteos suck shit.

guifranca: Is there any hope that Trea Turner can be anywhere close to his true self this season?

Paul Sporer: Yeah for sure. Remember where Semien was 50 gms into the season last yr & how he ended up. Plenty of time for Turner to get back on track

SS Keeper: In a 15-team OBP keeper points league, are you valuing Wander over Witt Jr. to keep long term?

Paul Sporer: Definitely. My big issue w/Wander last yr was the lack of fantasy juice – his main categories weren’t bankable (R/AVG) like power & speed are. Now we’re seeing the power and speed emerge as we thought they would from the uber-prospect and he’s no worse than a 2nd/3rd rounder for me right now
