Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – April 5th, 2023

Transcript is live, thanks for coming to the chat!

1:03

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone, thanks for coming out!!

1:03

Luke: Is Jorge Mateo’s hot start just a fun product of a small sample size or does Mateo have potential to be a roto breakout star this year?

1:05

Paul Sporer: Nothing is real yet for anyone, but I’m keeping a close eye on Mateo’s improved K & BB rates. His swinging strike rate is down massively to 8% and if he makes real improvements there, we could see a true breakout season. We need a few weeks before those numbers start to stabilize, though.

1:05

Bill: Dude, you better be watching deGrom vs Gray Rod during this. I do expect slower than normal response times from you.

1:05

Paul Sporer: Of course, I am! HUUUUUGE set of day games, I love it!!!

1:05

RAGBRAI: When Grichuk returns I have to cut either him, Moustakas or B Johnson (SF). Do I have to cut Johnson based on playing time or will he outperform Moose by the end of the year?

1:07

Paul Sporer: Moose isn’t exactly playing a ton, either, but I’d still lean toward cutting Johnson among that group right now

1:09

Chuck: Larnach or Laureano for my Eloy replacement?

1:11

Paul Sporer: I’ll lean Larnach. I’m so bummed about the Eloy injury. Can’t really be surprised, but definitely bummed

1:11

Guest: My offense is loaded a dynasty league, I need pitching help. In a points league with emphasis on IP and Ks, would you trade Gunnar Henderson for Cristian Javier?

1:11

Paul Sporer: That’s OK, but I feel like Gunnar should bring a top 10 ace, no?

1:11

Bob: What do you make of Lugo’s and DeScalfani’s last starts? Do you think they should be rostered in 12 team H2H categories league?

1:12

Paul Sporer: Both team streamers (so just reserve them when not using instead of cutting back into the pool for your leaguemates to possibly get).

1:12

Bob: Does Duvall look like he might go for 30+ HR in Fenway this year?

1:12

Paul Sporer: He certainly can as he’s done so 3x in his career, but we know how volatile he can be, too, so just keep tabs on him and don’t get complacent starting him without knowing what he’s doing bc you can wake up on June 1st to a .200 AVG and 14 HRs and that’s just not worth it

1:12

Achy Breaky Start: I know it was just one start, but Andrew Heaney looked AWFUL. I rage dropped for Justin Steele. Not looking for advice. I just can’t believe how bad he looked

1:13

Paul Sporer: It was BRUTAL. And any time he struggles, it’s hard not to think about his health history. I probably would’ve held, but it seems like you’re in a 10- or 12-teamer where there are good options on the wire and I quite like Steele so I get it

1:13

Mike: Is Donovan for Jordan Walker a no brainer in AVG + OPS league?

1:13

Paul Sporer: I’m on the B Donny train this year, but I’m taking Walker every time

1:14

Paul Sporer: JOEYYYYY WIIIEEEMMMEEERRRRR!!!! 3-run bomb!!!

1:15

wes: Man am I crazy to be bullish on Siri even in 12’ers? Pop, speed, great lineup (maybe he moves up?), defense. I think I like him better than most of the hot pickups: Anderson, Turang, Gallo, Bae, Mateo, Wiemer.

1:17

Paul Sporer: I think he’s in line with the likes of Bae and Wiemer with power & speed. And like I mentioned with Duvall, you need to keep tabs on Siri bc he can sink your average in a hurry. Plus he bats 9th which dings the R/RBI, so if he’s hammering your AVG/R/RBI, the HR/SB might not be worth it. I’m open to picking him up and seeing where it goes, but he has terrible plate skills so it could be super volatile

1:17

Salty: Ty O’ seems to be in the doghouse.  Considering the team’s depth, think that’s a big issue or something that blows over soon?  Skipper really seems like he’s not ready to move on.

1:17

Paul Sporer: It’ll blow over if he plays well. Otherwise, they have several good options they can turn to in his stead

1:17

Guest: Buying Luke Raley?

1:19

Paul Sporer: Only in 15+ teamers right now as he’s a platoon guy and we know Tampa Bay will manage the PT. As long as he’s playing vR consistently, I think it’s worth chasing where you need a bat in a deeper format

1:19

Chas: Do you see anything interesting in Jimmy Herget, especially in a SVS + HLDS league? 147 Stuff+, behind only Adam, Helsley, Ohtani and Chapman.

1:19

Paul Sporer: I can get behind taking a shot in SV/HD leagues, yeah. Estevez isn’t guaranteed as the closer, either, so Herget could find himself getting SVs again soon which would of course broaden his appeal

1:20

Guest: I thought Gunnar would return a top 10 ace as well. The Strider owner laughed at me and thought I was crazy though. Appreciate your help!

1:21

Paul Sporer: OK, well if your market is balking at anything at the high end and Javier is your best chance at an impact SP, I’m OK with it. Javier is kind of a Strider Jr. right now anyway, so maybe he jumps a level and ends up being your Strider!

1:21

Bubba: Texas seems to be avoiding Bubba Thompson completely—not even giving him a chance to pinch run. What’s the deal with him?

1:21

Paul Sporer: Just not sure he can hit enough to draw much PT right now

1:21

Mugghead: H2H points league with extra points for QS. Worth dropping Boyd or Stripling for Megill? (I swear the rest of my pitching is really good, btw)

1:22

Paul Sporer: I’d probably rank them via their upcoming matchups. I don’t have a huge split in terms of pure talent

1:22

Choices: I have whitlock coming off the IL next week. Should I drop LeClerc, Boyd, A.Champman, Turnbull, or Kikuchi to make room for him?

1:22

Paul Sporer: Chap or Kikuchi

1:22

At work: Please refrain from live game updates, many of us are working and DVRing games to watch later, thanks

1:23

Paul Sporer: With all due respect, that’s a tough ask in a baseball chat with nine games going on

1:23

Dr. Funk: Crushed with injuries to Noot and Eloy and looking for OF replacements.  Friedl, straw, grisham, larnach, oswaldo are some of the options I’m looking at.  Any of these stand out from the crowd?

1:26

Paul Sporer: Frield, Larnach, Grish. I’m a big Oswaldo fan, too. He hasn’t done much yet, but I’m not judging anything off 12 PA

1:26

Red in the face: What am I to make of the glut of outfielders on the Cardinals? Who should I pick between Carlson, Nootbar, Burleson?

1:26

Paul Sporer: Noot when healthy is a cut above those 2 for sure. Carlson and Burleson will be fighting for time with an edge to Carlson

1:26

Matt: I demolished my ratios with Kopech, Berrios, and Kutter Crawford all in the same league. Should I be less aggressive with 2 start pitchers?

1:30

Paul Sporer: That’s probably judging too much off the results over process to immediately tone down your 2-starters. Crawford will hopefully rebound v. DET, but how do you not go for PIT/DET as a 2-step? Kopech is someone I was starting even without a 2-start, he just got beat v. SF (some of the HRs were pretty good pitches… some were terrible, too) and Berrios I didn’t mind betting on a rebound, but after a modest spring and rotten debut, I might be ready to overreact on him

1:30

Paul Sporer: Brandon Drury!

1:31

Honkus Wagner: Grayson….my boy…look how they’ve massacred my boy…

1:31

Paul Sporer: I mean if they really thought he needed some work after not making the team out of spring, I’m not sure how they thought he was already fixed. Not saying I disagree w/the call-up or anything, but I won’t be surprised if it’s a modest debut espec. bc this Texas lineup is no joke, too

1:32

Dale: i know one start and small sample, but thoughts on Clevinger ROS? Add now, wait and see? 15 team roto and don’t see much available on the wire

1:32

Paul Sporer: Can’t really wait & see in 15-teamers, so I’m OK if you’re in need and want to pick him up

1:32

jAAAArred Kelenic: Well… He’s got a 40% K rate and is a platoon bat sitting against lefties. Fool me three times…

1:33

Paul Sporer: *don’t take a victory lap*
*don’t take a victory lap*
*don’t take a victory lap*
*don’t take a victory lap*
*don’t take a victory lap*
:sprints:

1:33

Paul Sporer: Jokes aside, nothing is settled yet. And if I victory lap Justin on Kelenic, he’s just gonna drop the Eloy IL news on my head lol

1:33

Juiced Ball: It feels like very pitcher I have except Jesus Luzardo is getting shelled

1:37

Paul Sporer: I feel that and I don’t even have Luzardo. Lost JV off rip and then the rest of my guys sucked including Kutter & Kopech

1:37

Loading Save State: McGough and Finnegan worth a look? Saves are such a mess this year and guys that should have a lock on the job are getting clobbered

1:37

Paul Sporer: Ehhhh…. I wasn’t much for either coming in and the early returns aren’t great, either. As much as I was hoping Jameson would start for Arizona, maybe he’s the answer at closer? I’m staying away from Washington’s closer situation

1:37

Guest: Kimbrel or Puk as a saves source?

1:38

Paul Sporer: I lean Kimbrel slightly

1:38

Paul Sporer: Great bounce back inning from Grayson, btw! Sometimes it’s just nerves in those ugly 1st innings

1:38

Baseball Randy: 12 team roto: Moncada, Heyward, or Brian Anderson?

1:39

Paul Sporer: I’m such a Brian Anderson stan. If he’s healthy, I think he can go .280/20+ in that park. I reeeeaaalllyyy hope there’s a Heyward rebirth in LA, but he prob won’t play enough to be 12-tm viable unless he’s hitting HRs and stealing bases, so Moncada is probably 2nd to BA for me

1:39

Cheap Seats: hi Paul, please rank Kimbrel, P. Johnson and W. Smith In saves only. Thank you.

1:40

Paul Sporer: Kimbrel, Smith, Johnson. Bard will likely be back relatively soon and I’d imagine he instantly reassumes the role as they love him in Colorado. Smith will be sharing with Leclerc and Kimbrel will probably cede some to SerAnthony & Alvarado, but he should def have a bigger share than Smith

1:40

Lorenzo: Bench Chris Bassitt until he shows some kind of glimmer of promise, or roll him out there again?

1:42

Paul Sporer: I think he’s done enough to not be benched after 1 dud. I know it’s hard to not overanalyze the small samples, but I’m keeping Bassitt in the lineup right now. Another mega dud would have me tapping the brakes on start 3, but for now, I’m sticking with him if I drafted him

1:42

John Olerud’s Helmet: Mr Paul!! Got a $50 bet on who has a better year Nick Gordon or Oswaldo Cabrera.I’m on the Gordon side.  Every projection I can find has them extremely closely ranked. What’s your take kind sir??

1:43

Paul Sporer: You picked 2 of my favorites, but only one of em made my breakout piece for OF and that’s Oswaldo so I’m on that side. That said, you’re completely live. I could see that coming down to September, tbh — https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/4-breakout-outfielders-for-2023/

1:43

Brad: Thoughts on Drey Jamison’s role this year? Are you in?

1:44

Paul Sporer: This Q was in before I made the earlier comment about him closing, but I still wanted to address it directly. I’m totally in on Jameson. Been a fan since throughout his come up and while I’d prefer he start, I won’t be made if he starts getting regular saves. For now, it seems the multi-inning role is the way they’re going to use him so he can shift back to the rotation when a need arises, but there is a world where he takes over the closer’s role and just dominates there

1:44

Guest: Please refrain from talking about baseball players as I am DVRing the whole season. Thank you.

1:45

Paul Sporer: 😏😏😏

1:45

Paul Sporer: (Just teasin the earlier commenter, not trying to be nasty. I totally get DVR’ing games and not wanting them spoiled, it’s just tough to then go into baseball-heavy spaces and expect a spoiler-free environment)

1:46

Quarantino Martinez: Josh Lowe also has a better k/BB situation. Any optimism?

1:46

Paul Sporer: Yeah we always talk about not quitting guys like this after 200-400 PA because things are super unsettled still. He has a 5% Swinging Strike Rate early on and that’s fantastic. Like Mateo, if he can improve his plate skills, there is tons of upside given his pwr-spd capability

1:47

Farhandrew Zaidman: Very very early indications based on the work of Codify and Dr. Meredith Wills indicate the ball has less wind resistance this year that the past few. Coincidentally we’re seeing a bunch of personal best exit velos and an uptick in HR. Long intro to a simple question: how much of a story will the ball be this year?

1:48

Paul Sporer: It’ll be a story every year until they’re less secretive about it which will probably be never so folks like Codify and the good Dr. will stay doing excellent work to give us knowledge about the ball which we can then use for fantasy purposes! It’s an X-factor every year. If I could magically be granted any single piece of info every yr before my fantasy drafts, it’d be “what ball are we using?”

1:48

Mitch Keller: Am I breaking out today?

1:49

Paul Sporer: It’s been a great outing, but breakouts are rarely done in a single game. I do believe he can build upon last year and continue his ascent. I’m a Keller believer

1:49

Swearing of Suarez: Degrom is so nasty

1:50

Paul Sporer: Just utter filth. I instinctively switch tabs when my gf walks in if I’m watching deGrom bc it feels like I should be hiding it joy

1:50

Paul Sporer: That and JV’s BRef page smirk

1:50

Spot: Is Kyle Stowers worth holding in a 15-team Ottoneu FG points league? Pretty crowded situation

1:55

Paul Sporer: I was hoping he’d be the strong side platoon, but yea he’s not playing much so I’d be OK moving in right now if there’s someone you want on the wire

1:55

Ugh: I’m very frustrated watching home plate umpires miss ball/strike calls constantly… I really wish they would remove the K zone on the TV so it would be less obvious.  Do we have a chance at robo umps any time soon?

1:55

Paul Sporer: I can see robo umps in the next couple yrs

1:55

Paul Sporer: deGrom 99, 99, 100 mph punchouts to fan the side. PLEASE STAY HEALTHYYYY, we deserve it as baseball fans!!!

1:55

Spot: Watching Arcia closely for signs of a breakout, any interest?

1:57

Paul Sporer: Orlando? Yeah I think he’s a decently solid player. A worthy 15-team option who could play into some shallower formats if his hitting comes along. He was pretty good in his 234 PA sample last yr so when he won the job, it put him on my deep lg radar

1:57

CJ: Fraley or Myers in the Cincy outfield? Daily league, categories including OBP, where I could bench Fraley vs lefties when needed!

1:58

Paul Sporer: Ahh, why you making me choose between my 2 faves? I wouldn’t stop talking about either this year and got them across many leagues. If I have to choose just one, I lean Fraley as I suspect he will run more than Myers, but they’re v close for me (mere cents apart in my projections)

1:58

Last of the OFs: Looking for a last OF, AL only OBP league. Isbel, Vierling, Kiermaier, Capel, or J. Lowe?

2:03

Paul Sporer: Intriguing group. Isbel is on the Paternity List right now, Capel just isn’t playing right now (but I really like his skills). I think we know what KK is. Lowe is a pure platoon which isn’t an eliminating factor in AL Only, but Vierling is playing daily so I lean his way. Short-term: MV, JL, KI, CC, KK… long-term: KI, MV, JL, CC, KK

2:03

Guest: complaint: some of the baseball zen’s aren’t very zen

2:03

Paul Sporer: lol truuuueeee

2:03

Swearing off Suarez: That Degrom k of Santander should definitely qualify as pornography

2:03

Paul Sporer: LOL right???

2:03

Guest: I know small sample and all but Syndergaard’s statcast and underlying metrics looked solid.  Where do you see him ROS for pts leagues with added points for QS? What are some players you have ranked around him that are widely rostered?

2:07

Paul Sporer: I’m fully in the bag for Thor, so let me get that bias on the table. LA’s penchant for fixing guys only added to my interest in him and obviously I loved the debut. The velo was down, but I think they can find a path to success even at a lowered velo by leaning on his secondary stuff. He was my 86th ranked SP around MKeller, MBoyd, JUrquidy, and teammate DMay

2:07

jay: how long of a leash are you giving berrios before you pull the plug in shallow leagues?

2:07

Paul Sporer: If there’s someone I really want on the wire and I don’t have another cut, I might be ready already. This isn’t just 1 start. It’s last year, a bad spring, and a poor debut. I’ve been a long-time Berrios believer, but I’m losing faith. His fastball is just SOOO hittable

2:07

J: Not a great start for Wesneski yesterday but worth noting he’s 3rd among starters in BotOvr and 13th in pitching+. A lot of promise there.

2:08

Paul Sporer: Yeah, I’m not worried at all by the outing. Not his best, but I also really like the Cincy lineup and of course the park is tough so he gets leeway with me. If shallow leaguers cut him, I’d insta-scoop

2:08

Grayson!: Grayson looking nasty after the rough start. If he stays up, do you break the bank in AL only FAAB? (was draft ineligible)

2:10

Paul Sporer: Only if I have $0 bids. I can’t leave myself in a position where I can’t make any changes. And even then, I’d be leery truly breaking the bank for a rookie SP who they’ve said will an IP mgmt. Now they did say it won’t be a hard stop in Aug/Sept, but rather in-game mgmt… that could manifest in fewer win opps. and of course lowered K totals with 4-5 IP outings on occasion to save some bullets and hopefully get him through all 6 months. He’s super appealing for obvious reasons, but I’d be in the $60s on a $100 budget at most. If someone wants to go harder than that, I’m OK letting them

2:10

C cray: o/u on 162 games played for d’arnaud

2:10

Paul Sporer: OVER! lol

2:11

Kyle: Level of concern for Lauer / T. Anderson? Results were fine first time out, but missing velo

2:11

Paul Sporer: Not terribly concerned off 1 start

2:11

Kolton: Kolton Wong is starting to get platooned and now dropped in the lineup. I think you were out pre-season, but how concerned should I be?

2:12

Paul Sporer: Depends on league type. Can probably absorb it in a 15-teamer or deeper but starts to get cuttable pretty quickly in 12s and lower. As you mention, I wasn’t huge on him coming in so I’d keep my eye on the wire for a potential replacement.

2:12

Paul Sporer: deGrom looking human in the 5th!

2:12

Punk in drublic: What do you think about some of the young guys in the Arizona bullpen, namely Jameson and Vargas?

2:16

Paul Sporer: Ctrl-F for Jameson as I’ve mentioned him a couple time (short answer: I love him). Carlos Vargas is a sneaky guy to keep tabs on. I actually learned about him playing OOTP as he became a late-inning RP for me in a franchise I’m doing which led to looking him up IRL. Throws 100+, has tons of swing-and-miss, and of course also lacks control… your prototypical flamethrower. Had a 39% K and 18% SwStr at AAA last yr and I wouldn’t be surprised if he found his way toward the 9th if the BB% is manageable (10-12% is workable if you’re fanning 30%+). Deep lg spec at best right now but probably only need to watchlist him for now

2:16

Kate: I feel like it’s easy to be patient with hitters, but my pitching has gotten blown up so far and I’m a little concerned.  Only 1-2 starts, I know, but what are some things you might notice in the early going that you would look at as red flags other than a big velo drop?

2:18

Paul Sporer: Outside of velo there isn’t too much that’s really going to worry me after 1-3 starts. Sharp SwStr drops, major BB% jumps. All of my top half of the draft pitchers are getting at least 5 starts.

2:18

Chone of the Dead: Chappy throwing 103.5mph last night. Is he relevant in a ten team points league?

2:19

Paul Sporer: Not unless Holds are rewarded or he takes over the closer’s role from Barlow. He’s still walking the yard and will remain pretty volatile.

2:19

Ghost of Patrick Corbin: Why do the Nationals keep sending me out to take a beating? Do they not accept my contract is a sunk cost? My slider went from one of the best pitches in baseball to one of the worst. I’m clearly awful, but they keep sending me out every 5th day. Is this a nightmare? Am I a character in a Kafka novel?

2:21

Paul Sporer: Teams don’t really apply the sunk cost fallacy. And in a way, I get it. If you’re paying him, you want to try & get something from the contract. Yes, you’re paying it no matter, but in Washington’s case, it’s not like they have legitimate options being benched in favor of Corbin so I kinda get it. But yeah, he seems cooked af

2:21

Paul Sporer: Schwarbomb!

2:21

WAY TO GO ADAM: I love the hard core Adam Frazier fan inexplicably at the Rangers home game

2:22

Paul Sporer: Every team has a guy or three that isn’t anywhere near the star of the team but has a rabid fan base and I love that about baseball… and all sports really, but I think it’s most conducive to baseball. Don Kelly Tigers fans know what I’m talking about!

2:22

Kolton: Would you trade Wong+Andres Munoz for Gleyber+Kenley Jansen?

2:22

Paul Sporer: I would indeed

2:22

Honkus Wagner: soler 2 gongs today

2:22

Paul Sporer: And Avi one yesterday. Some life for those 2?

2:23

The Guy: 12 team OBP keep forever league. In need of OF help, is Snell for Kelenic too much?

2:23

Paul Sporer: If you’re giving Snell, it’s entirely too much, yes

2:25

Roberto: Let’s say the pitch clock is winding down to the last couple seconds and a runner takes off early from first to steal second. Can the pitcher just let the clock run out and take the disengagement penalty so the runner has to go back to first?

2:26

Paul Sporer: Ooh I’m not entirely sure on that. Anyone else in here know for sure?

2:26

Yordan: My friend is shaming me for watching DeGrom over our homestead Sox. Am I in the wrong?

2:26

Paul Sporer: Nah, I will prioritize huge matchups over my Tigers, too… even when we were good, I would (although when the Tigers would good, they had several must-watch SPs themselves!)

2:26

Kate: How long do the Dbacks keep up this charade with Bumgarner?

2:28

Paul Sporer: See also: Corbin, Patrick. Of course it’s different because they are playing Bum over better option and are at least fringe contenders. I don’t really see a way back for Bummy but I’d be surprised if the DBacks just moved him to the pen for Pfaadt or Jameson. I wish they would, though. I’ll definitely be doing it when I start a DBacks franchise in OOTP later this yr

2:30

Paul Sporer: deGrom gets his 10th K and then Heim throws out Adley for a sick strike-em-out-throw-em-out

2:33

Ben: Rank the following pitchers: Efflin, Keller, Lugo, Civale, Clevinger, EdRod, Wesenski
Rank the following hitters (5×5 obp): Winker, Brian Anderson, Mateo, Siri, Hayes, Laureano, Vargas, Myers

2:33

Paul Sporer: Pardon the cop-out, but that is a really tight group that I’d probably just play matchups right now instead of trying to decide a pickup for the long-term. Wesneski is my favorite of the bunch so he’s my #1, but there is little split amongst that group so check the upcoming matchups and let that drive your picks more.

Similar case w/the hitters, but I do have a stronger lean at the top with Myers and Vargas. If you have a speed need, I favor Mateo over Siri in hopes that Mateo’s early plate skills gains can stick a bit whereas Siri has just been himself in that realm (read: bad).

2:33

Tigers Pitching: It appears that trading away Verlander was the final voodoo step in cursing Tigers pitching to eternal damnation.

2:34

Paul Sporer: Haha, nah I think they’re in good hands with Harris & Co. so I’m excited about the next few yrs

2:34

Matt: Is Wil Myers a drop in 12-teamers, or you holding?

2:34

Paul Sporer: Yeah, I’m not cutting anybody I was big on after 20 PA

2:34

Worst Owner in MLB?: a. Angels b. Orioles (seeing how good their hitting has been I want to throw Angelos in the Harbor) c. Reds d. Other

2:35

Paul Sporer: Rockies pretty brutal, but you’ve nailed the other real duds

2:35

Paul Sporer: Colorado & Cincy are usually the 2 I cite first as the worst

2:35

Pitch Clock Q: The pitcher’s natural instinct would be to step off, throw to 2B and get the out.  I think this would happen over trying clock shenanigans.

2:35

Pitch Clock Q: ….but if the pitcher does indeed hold the ball it should be a violation/ball but the umpire may have the authority to overrule it because the runner went making it a live play.

2:35

Salty: Similar to Roberto’s excellent question, I was wondering, if a pitcher pitches when the pitch clock hits zero, and a hitter makes an out, can that team challenge that the clock hit zero before the pitch like they do in the NBA, or is the pitcher given more leeway ala QBs with the snap count?

2:36

Paul Sporer: God I hope not. I’m all for the clock and think it’s doing great things for pace of play, but if we start slow-mo replaying when it strikes zero, it will be a nightmare

2:36

Jon: Why did the Pirates leave Keller in so long?

2:38

Paul Sporer: How else are you going to learn to get deeper into games? I feel like we talk out of both sides of our mouths as fans on that sometimes. Complain when young guys are lifted after 5 so often noting that they’re not gonna ever figure out how to get through a third time if they never get the chance but then knock a team for leaving a guy in for 7? Plus, it’s not even like it burned them. He cooked for 7 IP, what’s the problem? Not attacking you or anything, but I’m just not sure there’s an issue here!

2:38

XAVIER: Would you pick up Jack Flaherty on waivers?

2:39

Paul Sporer: Depends who I’m cutting, but yes I’d be interested generally speaking

2:39

Guest: Gleyber taking off every single time he can is something I am here for

2:41

Paul Sporer: Right? Already 5-for-6!!!!

2:41

Yucky DooDoo: Somebody just dropped Nootbaar in my pts league…pretty standard affair in terms of points….Duvall or him ROS?

2:42

Paul Sporer: Noot all the way

2:42

Paul Sporer: Even being IL’d right now

2:42

Paul Sporer: Can you pick him up, IL him and then re-scoop Duvall?

2:42

1B Help: You taking Vosler over guys like Tellez and Naylor?

2:43

Paul Sporer: Oooh, not quite. I do think Vosler could be on his Drury arc, but I still favor Tellez & Naylor

2:43

Chris: Me in march “tork is a good buy low sophomore for my team”

2:44

Paul Sporer: #TorksDorks stand up!!!

2:44

Timmah!: Are Bohm and J. Miranda pretty much the same guy for fantasy purposes at 3B?

2:44

Paul Sporer: Yeah I can see that comparison for sure

2:44

Ring Up Bell: Josh Bell is off to a slow start. How concerned should I be?

2:46

Paul Sporer: Literally 0%. We’re still in the range where most guys are one big game from flipping their numbers and if not, then 2 big games usually does it. I’m not worried about any of my top half of the draft guys (Bell was around the 12th rd in 15-teamers and 15th rd-ish in 12s)

Micah: What’s your philosophy on managing games started throughout the season? (12-team roto QS, 200 GS)

Do you hold back potentially good starts in order to spread them out over the entire season or start your guys regardless of pace and deal w/ the GS limit if/when you get to that point?

2:46

Paul Sporer: I take good starts where I see ’em

2:47

Paul Sporer: It’s 200 starts no matter what so when I get ’em doesn’t matter. If there are good matchups I believe, I’m starting ’em!

Salty: Not sure if you caught the SEA crowd very vocally counting down the pitch count when de los Santos pitched on Sunday.  That could be an interesting way for fans to impact those opposing pitchers affected by the clock.

2:48

Paul Sporer: I hadn’t seen that, but yeah that could become a thing and it will definitely rattle some guys. Plenty won’t mind, but some will likely tense up with it

South Side: Salty…I hate that so much as a baseball fan, it makes me want to scream!!!

Paul Sporer: OK, I gotta get going… Thanks so much for coming out! Follow me on Twitter (@sporer), Twitch (sporer), and Instagram (p_sporer). I’ll be streaming on Twitch later today and you can definitely come by and ask questions about fantasy there. Have a good one, y’all!

South Side – I hear ya, and I was thinking it’s probably as distracting for the hitter as it is for the pitcher. The game was on MLB – I haven’t watched enough games to see if any other fan base was doing it yet.
