Ottoneu Arbitration Results (2016)

The growing game of Ottoneu has a ton of great features that set the fantasy platform apart from the masses, but few are more unique than the annual arbitration process.  Now concluded across all leagues, arbitration (a 30 day process) unofficially launches what is a very busy off-season for Ottoneu owners.

As a quick reminder, Ottoneu arbitration enables each league owner to “correct” the market value of players whose salaries appear too low.  It’s an economic counter-balance to traditional dynasty rules that often let owners dominate a league for years if they amass the right players at the right prices.  Here is the actual arbitration rule:

The allocation system gives a $25 budget to each team in the league. The team can allocate this budget towards players on other teams. Each team must allocate at least one dollar to every other team, and no team can allocate more than $3 to any other team. At the end of the allocation period, all players have their salary increased by the amount allocated towards them. Allocations take place after the initial offseason salary increase, so any allocations will be in addition to the $1 or $2 increase each player gets at the end of the season.

By allowing owners to allocate limited salary increases to players they choose across the league, Ottoneu uses the arbitration process to effectively become the perfect blend between redraft and dynasty.

So which players see the greatest arbitration increases? Unsurprisingly, it is usually the players whose production most rapidly exceeds their salary.  In other words, those players whose perceived surplus value is high.

Carlos Correa was the arbitration “winner” of 2015, and in 2016 another rookie shortstop is in the running for the hardest hit target.  But this year I’ve changed the review method slightly, pulling arbitration results by average salary increase instead of raw arbitration dollars, per format.  As an example, Mookie Betts is the hardest hit player of 2016 across all leagues, increasing an average of $9 per league (many leagues will see Betts increase far greater than $9).

What follows are the Top 25 average arbitration increases by player, by format.  Any surprises? Any misses? You can find the full arbitration list here.

Where did you get hit the hardest? Let’s discuss in the comments.
