8:16

Paul Sporer: Hey y’all, Paul and Jason here! We’ll be chatting with you the rest of the night. Follow along here: http://rtsports.com/labr-mixed-draft

8:16

Gpod: Love all the SP getting drafted in the first few rounds

8:18

Paul Sporer: It surprised us, but we got our guy so we’re good

8:18

Mike R: Ugh why a closer so early

8:18

Paul Sporer: We like lockdown closers who can push 100 Ks

8:19

brockb03: Why Giles over E.Diaz, Osuna, Melancon, etc?

8:19

Jeff: I see you drafted Giles in Rd 6, just two spots after Britton went. Was that because you were concerned Giles wouldn’t be available to you coming back in Rd 7?

8:19

Paul Sporer: Just putting all the Giles q’s in at once so Jason can chime in

8:20

Jason Collette: We have waited too long on closers the past 2 years. Giles is the top guy on our board this year and we’ve talked about him ad nauseum on the podcast. When you hear the pre-planning show tomorrow, we go into it even more.

8:20

Jason Collette: After the awful April, Giles was as good as every other closer out there IMO

8:20

Todd: if youre set on Desmond. Why not wait for Dahl?

8:20

Paul Sporer: Desmond is light years more stable. I love Dahl, but not ahead or equal to Desi

8:22

BaseballNut: Why turner over machado, Rizzo, etc? SBs primarily? What are the counting stafs

8:22

Paul Sporer: SBs are def the separator between those others. It was Harper or Turner, so our choice was made for us

8:22

TreaCool: Looking forward to it!

8:22

Paul Sporer: Welcome to the team, Trea

8:23

PaulyOH: Look, I love Trea Turner and have him on one of my teams, but I still think he’s got way too much risk to be a first-round pick.

8:26

Paul Sporer: I’m not sure he’s all that risky, tbh

8:26

Paul Sporer: if he goes 10 HR/40 SB with gobs of runs and a .280 AVG, we’re OK

8:28

Seth r: JD Martinez seems low, right?

8:28

Paul Sporer: Ya, he’s a little underrated

8:28

TreaCool: What other teams you liking so far?

8:28

Paul Sporer: Like what Erickson is doing. Ray of HQ always puts together a strong unit

8:28

Clint G: Has anyone surprised you guys with how far they’ve fallen?

8:28

Jason Collette: Dammit….really wanted Eaton

8:28

Paul Sporer: Not yet, but also haven’t had a lot of time really sink in on it

8:28

Jeff: Would you guys have drafted Verlander in Rd 5 instead of Hanley if Verlander was available? I’m assuming Paul was crossing his fingers that was the case

8:28

Paul Sporer: We might’ve yes

8:28

Todd: Lemaiheu next?

8:28

Paul Sporer: Too early for 2B. It’s so deep

8:29

Randy: I knew you guys would pick Votto and Price. Guess I listen too much

8:29

Paul Sporer: Wait until you hear the prep pod, we were all over them

8:29

Lougle: What do you think about Syndergaard and Sale on the wheel?

8:29

Paul Sporer: Alan is another team I’m liking. Sexy ace-duo w/Trout

8:29

Guest: Paul you’re a Tigers dude. Any signs of Miggy slowing? He just keeps on cranking out the stats…34 isn’t old enough to expect a big decline

8:29

anonymous: I love that Turner will be eligible at 2B, OF and SS this year

8:29

Paul Sporer: We do, too

8:29

Jason Collette: We talked about Hamels there when Russell went and then Hamels went 3 picks later. I’m going to mope about not getting Eaton for awhile

8:29

Guest: Trout/Syn/Sale… looks nice to have 1.1 this year

8:31

Guest: ooooh sniped for Greinke πŸ˜‰

8:31

Paul Sporer: πŸ™

8:31

anonymous: ewww, peraza as a fantasy starter? hitting 8th in the NL? glad you went Russell over him

8:31

Randy: Where are you guys at on Peraza now that he’s shooting up draft boards the last two days?

8:32

Paul Sporer: Folks are hyped on his speed even before B Phillips’ departure, now he’ll go sky high

8:32

anonymous: Everyone just waits on Catchers after the big 3 are gone. boring position this year πŸ™

8:32

Paul Sporer: Soooo boring

8:33

Gpod: Love Addison Russell

8:33

Paul Sporer: Me toooooo!

8:33

Paul Sporer: That was a me pick

8:33

Jason Collette: I don’t love him as muchh as Eaton πŸ™

8:34

brockb03: Osuna round 8 seems like a steal

8:34

Paul Sporer: I like it. Osuna is a beast

8:34

Seth r: Peraza a poor man’s Turner? Likely to have similar stats and position flex except for homers–which seem to be more easily found now

8:34

anonymous: I’ve played fantasy for years and am just now getting familiar with the concept of batter/pitcher value splits. Is this league 66/33? 60/40? 70/30?

8:34

Jason Collette: typically closer to 72/28

8:35

Paul Sporer: Nowhere near the HRs for Peraza (not that I expect insanity from Turner), but ya the speed/AVG component

8:35

perricoach: Duffy eh? Strong enough number 2? I need to convince myself more on him

8:35

Paul Sporer: Love the development of that change. Needs to convert some of that control into command to limit the HRs, but the talent is prime

8:37

anonymous: Duffy has fantasy ace upside. Although that’s not saying as much as other positions because pitchers are so volitile

8:37

Larry David : Wade Davis finally goes

8:37

Jason Collette: that’ll happen the season after he goes on the DL 2x

8:37

TheTinDoor: DUFFMAN.

8:37

Minty: Still as high on Addy if it were OBP Paul?

8:37

Paul Sporer: maybe a little lower, but not too much, Minty

8:37

anonymous: i’m very interested to see who your 3B solution is. You are drafting like you have a plan!

8:38

Paul Sporer: you will get to hear that plan on tomorrow’s pod

8:40

Gil Renard : Feels like a run on the last of the somewhat reliable closers happening

8:40

Jason Collette: and this is where we’ve been “oh shit!” the past couple of seasons and get stuck chasing a potential strong #2 in rd 12

8:40

Jeff: Thoughts on Odubel going 8.1? Around what round do you see Keon Broxton going?

8:41

Paul Sporer: I dig Odie. I think he’ll build on some of his gains from last year. Broxton in an early-teens round perhaps

8:41

Keith: Rd 8 a little high for Beni, no?

8:41

Paul Sporer: back to back #1s on MLB and BA lists pushes him up for sure

8:42

anonymous: is benintendi anything but a counting stats monster? I don’t expect much power yet. Do the red sox run?

8:42

Jason Collette: I think they run more this year, but I’m not taking him this high

8:44

anonymous: my favorite rounds are when people start prospecting for saves with underrated ratio guys and elite set-up men. I’m a monster.

8:44

Paul Sporer: lol late rounds are fun. lots of gems get taken

8:44

Kate: Jake Lamb?

8:44

Paul Sporer: We’d have taken him had Dr. Roto not done so ahead of us. Instead we took C version in Gattis

8:44

Joel H: Love the Duffy pick.. Good team so far guys!

8:44

Paul Sporer: Thanks, Joel!

8:44

Minty: I feel like Beni/Dahl are equally risky and exciting for their first full seasons

8:45

Paul Sporer: I can dig that. Gimme Coors over Fenway

8:45

Dago: Jake Lamb gone. Plan B?

8:45

anonymous: I smell a catcher platoon

8:45

Fishman: Catcher run. Way to kick it off.

8:45

Paul Sporer: We also suck at catcher

8:45

Paul Sporer: so we decided to get a beast

8:45

Jason Collette: We talked earlier about taking the power with Gattis because we can absorb the BA risk after our top 2 picks

8:46

cavebird: I know I am late to the party, but wow on the first round. I hope/assume this is a no roster moves league where high risk can bring high reward, otherwise, it is hard for me to see taking a guy with such a short track record over a SS-eligible Machado.

8:46

Jason Collette: We think Turner has 20 HR, 50 SB, 100 R, .300 avg potential this year. Machado can’t hit enough homers to offset those steals

8:47

Paul Sporer: there goes Broxton

8:47

Paul Sporer: I think Turner is closer to the 13 HR he hit last year, but it didnt’ change my outlook to take him first, just FYI

8:47

Joel H: Big fan of Russell. Most mocks I have done he has been snagged from me in the 6th round. L

8:47

Paul Sporer: I’m obsessed

8:47

Larry David: Dislike the Baez pick

8:47

Paul Sporer: I’m a little sketchy on him, too

8:48

Jason Collette: We couldn’t wait any longer to get Paxton. If it’s a reach, it’s a reach but we both love him so much

8:49

Jeff: Todd Zola is a G.O.A.T., but why Realmuto over Grandal? AVG league vs OBP league perhaps?

8:49

Jason Collette: This is an average league

8:49

Gil Renard : Whoa Keon

8:49

Jason Collette: speed is precious…some teams are really slow right now

8:49

Jimbo: Where can I see the draft board

8:49

Randy: Was colome someone you were considering if Zola hadn’t taken him?

8:49

Jason Collette: No

8:49

brockb03: Paxton over Fulmer?

8:50

TheTinDoor: Predict Marcel Ozuna coming up

8:50

Jason Collette: We talked about Paxton quite a bit on the planning show you can hear tomorrow. LOVE that defense behind him and the way he pitched in the 2nd half was awesome

8:50

Paul Sporer: Jason will answer the Paxton q… could see Ozuna going soon

8:50

Chicago Cardinal: Been tinkering with some game theory. In a redraft league would you nominate high single digit guys for $2 or $4 less than your values early? Either you get your value or someone overpays?

8:50

Jason Collette: yes, I prefer that method. Throw them out at 85% & don’t waste time with the low dollar crap

8:52

Gil Renard : As a Sox fan on Benintendi who watched all of his games: much better real life player than fantasy. If he’s in the 2 hole I see production similar to Turner except only 15ish SB. Maybe 20.

8:52

Paul Sporer: ya I think he’ll be one of those solid-everywhere guys. Think Michael Brantley

8:52

Tommy B: Gomez this high?

8:52

Paul Sporer: we love him, but we weren’t discussing him yet

8:53

Minty: Feels like a reach on Baez, but he’s so much fun to watch

8:53

Jason Collette: ack..we were hoping Elvis Andrus would slide back to us

8:53

Paul Sporer: Still has killer upside should he ever curb the Ks on a more permanent basis

8:53

Dago: No #RaysCorner thus far. Cobb coming later?

8:53

Paul Sporer: SS run

8:53

Jason Collette: soon

8:53

Paul Sporer: we had a choice of Andrus v. Paxton and Paxton was the bigger fear of not making it back

8:53

Dago: A Gamble on Shark. I’m out oh those waters, how about you guys?

8:53

Paul Sporer: I’m in-ish, but not that early with the arms available

8:53

Mike: Uh…you took Turner in the first round…?

8:54

Paul Sporer: Uh…yeah

8:54

Paul Sporer: As is happening in most drafts: http://hosted.stats.com/mlb/adp.asp?pos=all

8:55

Jason Collette: Turner has already gone 1.1 in a draft

8:55

Larry David: Podhorzer going with the 1 starter strategy so far

8:55

Jason Collette: Not new for him. He did that in Tout 2 years ago and cleaned up late with $2 pitchers

8:56

Larry David: Keon Buxton?

8:56

Patrick Bateman: Damn, Keon before Byron?

8:59

Jeff: Just waiting for you guys to snag Carter Capps in the reserve round

8:59

Jason Collette: man…we were discussing Ozuna or Thames and they went back to back

8:59

Paul Sporer: %%^&%#*&$%&@#^@&^$%*^#%$^&#%^*#@^*&#^$*&^# OZUNA!!!!

8:59

Dago: Paxxxton.. so sexy

8:59

anonymous: LOTS of teams waiting on 3B this year. 5 of 15 still have no 3B through 9.5 rounds

8:59

Paul Sporer: it’s deep

8:59

Paul Sporer: so is 2B

8:59

cavebird: I love the Paxton pick, however, and really hope that no leaguemates are here to see me say that. πŸ˜‰

8:59

Gil Renard : Love the Paxton pick. Now stop writing/talking about him so us other fans don’t have to overpay.

8:59

Jason Collette: so we took Logan Forsythe as he sets the table for that LA lineup and is going to be YUGE

8:59

Paul Sporer: cavebird hates Paxton, leaguemates, relax

8:59

Fishman: Whose other teams do you like right now, Jason and Paul?

9:00

Jason Collette: honestly haven’t looked at other teams

9:01

Tommy B: forsythe going to lead off for the dodgers?

9:02

Jason Collette: either hitting 1st or 2nd

9:02

Jimbo: What’s your take on Puig

9:02

Jason Collette: We went there last year and were torched. Don’t want to do it again this year. Too much OF depth there where he could get buried

9:03

Justin: Love trea turner over machado

9:03

Fishman: Just for the record, I liked the Gattis pick.

9:03

Phil: Is it random or intentional all your SP are lefties?

9:03

Paul Sporer: random af

9:04

NDfan: like the team so far Paul

9:04

Paul Sporer: thanks

9:04

Jason Collette: 1st year we did LABR, 8 of our 9 pitchers were AL

9:04

Deece: would love to see the 2nd half votto for a full season this season

9:04

Paul Sporer: that’d be so sexy

9:04

Aaron: Who won LABR mixed last year?

9:04

brockb03: Still a reach for Alex Reyes in rd 11?

9:04

Paul Sporer: I think so personally

9:04

Jason Collette: Zola won it

9:04

Paul Sporer: Ray Murphy of HQ

9:04

Paul Sporer: wait i thought Ray won?

9:04

Jason Collette: well, one of them πŸ™‚

9:04

Paul Sporer: oh, he won an FSWA award, i’m dumb

9:04

Chicago Cardinal: How many pitchers in tier behind kershaw?

9:05

Paul Sporer: 2 – Max and Bum

9:05

anonymous: Call me crazy, but mid 5th feels super early for OF-Schwarber, seeing the more stable names around him

9:05

Paul Sporer: I see that. Could snag C in-season, though… unless they’ve said he won’t catch for sure

9:05

Keith: Also who the heck is Jose Quintero

9:06

Paul Sporer: he thought Quintana was available

9:06

Randy: Who the **** is Jose Quintero? Misclick? I thought he was an old director

9:07

Dj: Thoughts on McCullers this year? Seen lots of suggestions of breakout but that walk rate…

9:07

Paul Sporer: I love his arm, but he keeps getting hurt. Could be on a path to RP soon

9:07

Aaron: is this a two catcher league?

9:07

Paul Sporer: Yes

9:09

Jason not-collette : Y’all worried about power? Team feels a little light.

9:09

Paul Sporer: Not worried, but it will be a focus

9:09

Guest: wow Khris Davis so high!

9:10

Paul Sporer: 42 HRs and it was supposed by his metrics

9:10

anonymous: Pod going with the ‘If you ain’t first, yer last’ SP strat. could finish 14th or win the whole thing

9:10

Paul Sporer: that’s the way to go

9:10

Dj: Forsythe over schoop?

9:10

JT: You guys wante KK, right?

9:10

Paul Sporer: Forsythe setting up in LAD is pretty

9:10

Paul Sporer: he was on our list for sure

9:10

Jason Collette: now that we have Inciarte, unlikely. Need to start adding some more pop

9:10

Paul Sporer: he being KK

9:13

cavebird: Love to hear the reason for the Inciarte love as a Braves fan. Sell me.

9:14

Jason Collette: was terrific once he came back from his injury. Knows how to get on base and loves to run when he is on base. Would have gone KK if he was there because he has more power

9:14

Dago: Forecast for Inciarte? 30 plus SB?

9:14

Jason Collette: 30 SB ceiling

9:14

Aaron: 3B looks to have fallen off quite a bit after turner…interested to see who y’all target

9:14

Paul Sporer: .290/25 in a full season

9:14

Paul Sporer: lots of similar 3B now

9:14

Jason Collette: 2 of the guys that we talked about on the planning show for 3B still there

9:14

Paul Sporer: so didn’t feel the need to jump once Lamb went

9:14

Gil Renard : Chris Carter a late rd target given OBP league?

9:14

PJ Bubba: Your team seems way light on HR – do you see power available late?

9:14

Jason Collette: it’s an AVG league

9:14

Paul Sporer: tons. 834997543 guys hit 20 HR last year

9:15

Dj: Does Watson keep the job all year?

9:15

Paul Sporer: I can see a Hudson rising up, but Watson is a stud so I don’t want to remove him from the role just yet

9:16

Minty: Was the Baez or Reyes pick a bigger reach?

9:16

Paul Sporer: Reyes, IMO. Love Jeff, but don’t agree

9:17

anonymous: The warts on the late-round power guys seem much more manageable than the tumors on the late-round speedsters

9:17

Paul Sporer: Great way to put it

9:17

Paul Sporer: We’ll just get Mike Zunino for power πŸ™‚

9:18

Jason Collette: I’ll quit

9:18

Mike: Just seems like the hype on Turner has gotten out of hand…

9:18

Paul Sporer: lololol

9:18

Jason Collette: perhaps…

9:18

Paul Sporer: perhaps

9:18

Paul Sporer: lol jinx

9:19

Jason not-collette : Tommy Joseph flier at 1B and Desmond in the of?

9:19

Paul Sporer: Desi already in the OF for us

9:19

Deece: felix hernandez in the 13th round… how the mighty have fallen, but understandable

9:19

Paul Sporer: actually like it a good bit. i have a hard time thinking he’s done

9:19

Jason Collette: we are only taking LHP

9:19

Aaron: people keep mentioning HR but pitching looks like biggest concern to me…price seems to have the most amount of risk of the aces

9:19

Paul Sporer: oh?

9:21

Deece: was that going to be your Urias pick that was sniped?

9:21

Paul Sporer: no, he won’t have the innings

9:21

Tommy B: love the pair of Joc and Inciarte. compliment each other well

9:21

Paul Sporer: we fully agree. we cited the AVG in the bank as a reason to take Joc

9:21

Virgin Islander: I get the turner first round reasoning… personally I always draft safe I the first round. Feel like you can never win your league in the 1st…but you can definitely lose it.

9:22

Paul Sporer: I disagree that you can lose it, but agree that you can’t win it

9:23

Jeff: LOVE Joc in Rd 13!

9:23

Aaron: i honestly don’t know. how’d y’all do in LABR mixed last year?

9:24

Jason Collette: we didn’t finish last, but we didn’t finish much higher πŸ™

9:25

PJ Bubba: Joc is a steal in round 13

9:25

Paul Sporer: ty

9:25

Chaco Chicken: Did Aaron Nola die?

9:25

Paul Sporer: sorta, missed half the year

9:26

Jason Collette: that elbow scares me

9:27

anonymous: Russell a MIF or playing trea in the OF?

9:27

Jason Collette: for now, Turner in OF depending on what is there later in the draft

9:28

Aaron: what do you think your best (value) pick has been so far in the draft? russell?

9:28

Paul Sporer: Joc for me

9:28

brockb03: VV and Nola are getting no love

9:28

Paul Sporer: injury scares and bad team

9:28

Paul Sporer: i like both, tbh

9:28

Paul Sporer: but that middle tier is THICK

9:28

Matt: Sorry if i missed this question already but Baez in the 9th seems a little early don’t you think?

9:28

Paul Sporer: ya we agree that it’s earlier than we’d have gone

9:32

Dago: Healy gone! Noooo!

9:32

Paul Sporer: Very sad

9:32

Tommy B: 1B shallower than previous years?

9:32

Paul Sporer: definitely

9:34

Paul Sporer: I’m not even a Robbie Ray guy and that’s thievery

9:34

anonymous: Talk about Gattis’s playing time. The Astros situation is unique

9:35

Paul Sporer: those situations often figure themselves out, tbh. beltran is 100, we like Yuli, but he’s unproven, mccann 33 years old

9:35

Matt: Was the most obvious pick of the draft so far (other than trout) Votto to you guys? Were you surprised he was there?

9:35

Paul Sporer: yes and no

9:35

Tommy B: favorite late round 1B? Thames just for the unknown? Bird?

9:35

Tommy B: Mid round i should say

9:35

Paul Sporer: i like the Thames pick

9:35

It Me: How early are trade talks starting in a league like this?

9:35

Paul Sporer: Right after the draft, tbh. we had offers immediately last year after ending the draft w/3 SS

9:36

Mike: Is this a normal number of drafter timeouts for LABR?

9:36

Jason Collette: We can’t make trades until next Monday. We’ve been asked to wait until the print version runs on Monday

9:36

Paul Sporer: It’s freezes

9:36

Jason Collette: there has been connectivity issues for 2 people

9:39

Jason Collette: I told you we were taking all LH SP

9:40

Dago: Rays Corner Special!!!

9:40

Aaron: rays pick…

9:40

sauce: SP?

9:40

anonymous: Blake Snell best comp Lance McCullers?

9:40

PJ Bubba: please take Nola here … upside

9:40

Paul Sporer: he gone PJ

9:41

Jason Collette: We called it last night that Podhorzer was taking Pinata. It just happened

9:42

Dago: Gausman, JGray, Fulmer? I keep blending all 3 together, especially first 2. Any thoughts? How would you rank them?

9:42

Jason Collette: Gausman, Fulmer, Gray (ballpark penalty) IMO

9:42

Jason Collette: Snell is the high ceiling pick for us.

9:44

Chicago Cardinal: Shawn Kelley a steal there. Discount due to Robertson talk?

9:45

Paul Sporer: gotta be and general lack of confidence in him as closer

9:45

Big Dave: Murphy.

9:45

Big Dave: Do it.

9:45

Paul Sporer: which murphy?

9:45

Jamie Sayer: Who you guys targeting at 3B?

9:45

Paul Sporer: Drury

9:45

sauceman11: Drury nice, more upside than Solarte

9:45

JT: Talk about Drury. Not seeing it…

9:45

Big Dave: Told you that was the spot.

9:45

Paul Sporer: Drury’s power upside is much higher than Solarte’s

9:46

Paul Sporer: Drury had great bookends (Apr/Sept), bad books (May-Aug)

9:46

Paul Sporer: Oh Tom Murphy – fake player

9:46

Big Dave: Tom.

9:46

Jamie Sayer: Nice! I like Drury, the position elig. will help out

9:47

Paul Sporer: I like Drury’s power upside and he could have 3 positions by the end of week 1

9:48

Big Dave: Don’t miss Tuffy now!

9:48

anonymous: Awww, Zunino sniped. Sorry Jason πŸ™

9:48

Dj: Waino has a bounce back season?

9:48

Paul Sporer: No real risk if he doesn’t in the 16th

9:49

Aaron: what’s your preferred draft slot this year?

9:50

Jason Collette: I like the 9th or 10th where I’ve been of late

9:50

Paul Sporer: Gray was the pick if he made it

9:50

sauceman11: wow, surprised to see Swanson last this long….

9:50

Paul Sporer: better real life

9:50

sauceman11: Dr. Roto should’ve grabbed Swanson instead of Kepler and Grichuk when he did

9:50

Paul Sporer: I like Grich, would’ve loved to get him for our power

9:50

sauceman11: there goes sonny G

9:50

Paul Sporer: :Sad face:

9:52

Jonathan Sher: How much of a challenge will it be to add HR when your team looks to be middling on BA? Votto is a stud, Turner is likely close to .300, but you have four .225-.255 hitters in Pederson, Gattis, Russell and Forsythe, with four slightly above average BA in Ramirez, Desmond, Drury and Inciarte. A little easier to get power in an OBP league than in a BA league.

9:52

Jason Collette: I’ll shave off the rest of my hair if Forsythe hits .255

9:52

Paul Sporer: middling AVG from Inciarte??

9:52

Paul Sporer: he’s a career .292

9:52

Jason Collette: Forsythe > .275, Inciarte > .290

9:52

Chris : nice pick with druy

9:52

Paul Sporer: ty

9:54

Big Dave: Nut up Paul don’t let Collette make these Dickerson Homer picks on you!

9:54

Paul Sporer: it was actually more me

9:54

Jason Collette: we’re doing too many things at once. We were supposed to take Cabrera before Dickerson πŸ™

9:54

Paul Sporer: i walked in and we were up so i didn’t get to see his chat

9:54

Jason Collette: Paul missed my note

9:54

Paul Sporer: where he said he wanted Asdrubal more there

9:55

Jason Collette: we needed power and Dickerson will fall into 20

9:58

Jason Collette: our first NL pitcher!!!

9:58

Kevin: CDick playing time this year? more at DH or LF?

9:59

Jonathan Sher: Dickerson is a lifetime .245 hitter away from Coors Field and adds a 5th low BA hitter to your lineup. Hurts not to get Cabrera instead.

9:59

Jason Collette: more at DH right now the way the roster shakes out but since he has dropped 20 lbs, maybe he gets more LF time

9:59

Paul Sporer: Oh now you pay attention to career AVGs after saying Inciarte is middling πŸ˜‰

9:59

Big Dave: Everyone dogs Melky. In fact I’m getting a new dog. I’ll call him Melky. He’ll be awesome and under appreciated

9:59

Paul Sporer: Melky is v solid

10:00

anonymous: Excited to see how Ivan Nova does learning to pitch left-handed this year

10:00

sauceman11: i like Nova, great 2nd half in 2016

10:00

Paul Sporer: lololol

10:00

thedudeindenver : This is fun to follow. Very interesting to see how folks fill out a team. Makes me want my drafts to get here already

10:00

Paul Sporer: always a great way to kick off the season

10:01

Chaco Chicken: Josh Reddick might be a nice pick in this round

10:02

Jason Collette: he’s intriguing right now

10:04

Dj: Jason sort of commented on this earlier. But in an in person auction have you ever thrown out a $3-5 playersl with your first nomination to try to steal him for $1-2 or is that overthinking it

10:05

Jason Collette: yep…good to mix things up and catch guys saving cash for the bigger guys.

10:06

Paul Sporer: Going Panik here

10:06

Rick: Is Bedrosian’s injury risk that high that he falls to you at rd 18? He struck out so many guys last year

10:07

Paul Sporer: I think Street gets first crack is all

10:08

Jason Collette: Bedrosian already gone

10:08

Jonathan Sher: I don’t know the world needs Jason with a shaved head, but Forsythe is a lifetime .255 hitter, and while Tampa is about as bad for BA as LA, the other home parks in the NL West are considerably worse on BA than the other AL East parks.

10:08

Jason Collette: Forsythe getting cracked for being hurt in 2014. He was tracking toward a huge year last year before Felix cowardly plunked him in the shoulder and broke his shoulderblade

10:12

Dj: Holliday would look really good on this team. Not concerned about his playing time either.

10:12

Paul Sporer: we eyed him for sure

10:12

Jonathan Sher: Not saying Forsythe was an over-draft; just saying he carries some extra BA risk on your squad that already has a lot of BA risk.

10:12

Jason Collette: he talks me into Cotton and the guy I wanted (Solarte) goes with the next pick

10:13

Paul Sporer: Think you overstate the AVG risk. Votto, Turner, Desmond, Inciarte provide a strong base

10:13

Paul Sporer: Panik is hitting .290 this year

10:14

Paul Sporer: Forsythe, Hanley solid-not-awful, the others are counterbalances of power in exchange for the AVG

10:14

Jamie Sayer: YA BOY COTTON

10:14

JT: Like the Cotton selection

10:14

Gucci: Why would you take Triggs over Cotton? I have no idea. Great pick

10:14

Paul Sporer: that’s what scared me about letting Cotton go

10:14

vottomanempire: In Paul’s defense, Jharel is the Fabric of our Lives

10:14

Dago: Cotton candy for everyone

10:15

thedudeindenver : How do Cotton and Snell compare? Taken 5 rounds apart, but they seem like they could have similar output. Is the team behind what separates them?

10:15

Jonathan Sher: And I actually like Cotton in his home ballpark; good opportunity to stream pitchers

10:16

Paul Sporer: Cotton’s stuff is so nasty

10:16

Paul Sporer: feel like one of those two pop big for us

10:16

Paul Sporer: our C2 will be shit πŸ™

10:21

Gucci: Is swihart eligible?

10:21

Big Dave: Maybe swihart

10:21

Paul Sporer: not elig at C

10:23

Big Dave: You can’t believe in Sandy Leon

10:23

Paul Sporer: agreed

10:24

vottomanempire: how do you feel about Reddick’s PT?

10:24

Jason Collette: COBB!!!

10:25

thedudeindenver : Where, or how much does, trading factor into your strategy later in the draft? Trade one of the 1B-eligible guys for a C2?

10:25

Jason Collette: possibly. We didn’t plan on going like this at 2nd catcher (you’ll hear tomorrow) but so many guys started looking similar we ended right back where we’ve always been

10:25

Big Dave: Collette is wearing the pants.

10:26

Jason Collette: this was a mutual pick

10:26

Paul Sporer: Cobb very much mutual

10:26

Paul Sporer: and frankly, I took Dickerson when Jason didn’t want to

10:27

Paul Sporer: OK guys, Jason is bringing it home. I gotta roll. peace

10:34

Big Dave: What’s happening at C2 now Jason? What holes are you filling?

10:34

Jason Collette: took Yan Gomes

10:34

Jonathan Sher: Gomes v Wieters as late-2nd catcher: Your thoughts?

10:34

Jason Collette: would rather have Wieters

10:42

Dago: Any chance you’re taking Willy Mo with one of the next six picks, Jason?

10:42

Jason Collette: tempting!

10:42

Jonathan Sher: You still need a 3B or does someone qualify? (I’m an AL guy so I might miss NL eligibility). Who’s left? Peralta

10:42

Jason Collette: Drury qualifies

11:00

Jason Collette: yea, Anderson was always a reserve round target. Only 1 more guy we have queued up

Conforto slips to the reserve rounds – nice gamble! …but not by one of our home teams
