MASH Report (8/25/15)

• I having traveling and enjoying Massachusetts for the Saberseminar. I just have not been able to keep up on MASH and need to get out an update before more injuries mount up. Well, this morning I think I may have caught up …. maybe. Today’s MASH is pretty much just a status report with little to no analysis. On Thursday, I will run an in depth on several of these injuries.

Hunter Pence will probably miss close to the minimum 15 days with a strained oblique

Billy Hamilton is out with a sore shoulder.

• While the team won’t admit it, Jake McGee will not throw for the major league team this season. The team is putting a 6-8 week return time for him which will be after the regular season.

Denard Span will likely be activated from the DL today.

• The Cubs placed both Jorge Soler (oblique) and Jason Motte (shoulder) on the DL.

Anibal Sanchez is likely done for the season with rotator cuff problems. If he comes back, it will be just the last week.

• Another Tiger, Daniel Norris was placed on the DL with an oblique strain.

Randal Grichuk will miss some time with a strained elbow muscle and a sprained elbow ligament.

Maikel Franco is done for the season with a fractured wrist.

Aaron Hicks will just miss just the required 15 days for his DL stint for a strained hamstring.

Ike Davis’s season is over. He will need to have hip surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Josh Hamilton is back on the DL with an inflamed knee.

J.J. Hardy is on the DL with a groin injury.

CC Sabathia is on the DL with a sore knee.

Bobby Parnell is on the DL for as far as I can tell his injury is “suckitude”.

Michael McKenry will miss the rest of the season with surgery to his knee to repair his meniscus.

Travis Ishikawa has a back strain. I don’t think Ishikawa is hurt in any way, but was just placed on the DL to make room for Jody Mercer.

Jeremy Hellickson will also go on the DL with a strained hamstring.

Velocity Readings

Randall Delgado’s average fastball velocity has been trending down since coming off the DL.

Sean Doolittle’s velocity is better than previous comeback, but it is still not up to his 2014 levels.

Derek Holland’s velocity is down ~1 mph compared to his last full season in 2013.

Mike Leake’s velocity is fine.

Pat Venditte’s velocity seems fine.

What say you of Tyler Duffey’s three short starts..improved results, but steadily declining velocity? Purposeful, or potential injury?
