MASH Report (5/29/15)
• Not a much of movement on the DL over the last couple of days. I submitted this article for publication early on Friday, so any injury news which comes out today will not be contained.
• Jayson Werth had a major setback when it was determined he has two fractures in his wrist. He could be back in August. Or he could miss the rest of the season.
Sprains or strains forced the following players to the DL
• Matt Adams strained his quad and will miss 3-4 months recovering. Basically there is a small chance he will return by the end of the season.
• Michael Morse strained his finger.
• Daniel Nava strained his thumb.
• Collin Cowgill sprained his wrist.
• Scott Atchison sprained his ankle.
Velocity Readings
• Sean Doolittle is back, but there look to be some issues with Pitchf/x classifying his pitches. His 4-seam looks to be down 7 mph at 88 mph, but his 2-seam is at 95 mph. I think he is fine right now and hopefully the pitch classification will get corrected in the future.
• Jason Vargas’s average fastball velocity is fine.
• Manny Parra’s is also fine.

RE: Doolittle’s pitch f/x
I haven’t been watching CWS games this year, but Sale has the same thing with his velocity charts–4 seamer is down 3 mph to 90, but the 2 seamer is up by a bunch to 94.5. Is pitch fx or fangraphs having issues?

The velocity chart from Doolittle’s two-seam fastball is for 2012-2014. I watched his first appearance and he was at 87-89 on his fastball.
Yeah, this is the first I’ve seen somebody say he was hitting his velo and fine. Everywhere else reported he was sitting at ~90, down 5 mph, which is cause for serious concern. It does appear the chart above saying 95 mph is from 2014.

Considering he’s injured, and selling now would be pennies on the dollar, I’m still shopping David Wright aggressively.
With that said, would you or anyone for that matter, have a tier or specific players to target in a trade that is in a league of NL only, twelve teams, deep rosters?
I was suspecting another injured guy, a pitcher perhaps, maybe a Segura? I have 3+ guys, good players, whom are returning from the DL and plan on making a second half run for the title, Puig, Dickerson, Fernandez, to name top ones, are leading my DL’d bench so you know I have no issue of waiting on injuries to heal, just don’t wish to hang onto Wright.
Any help would be swell. SWELL, that’s a fun word.

I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed on Jose Bautista with his shoulder injury. The cortisone shot made me more nervous, but now they’re saying he might be ready to play the OF in inter league play next week. Is this good? My fear is that he goes out there and plays and aggravates it. I have a trade offer on the table for Grienke, which seems like slightly less than full value, but I could use the pitching help.
If you need pitching help, take the Greinke trade.
The Mesoraco saga has been an interesting one to follow… Would you hold onto him in a keeper league? My gut says he opts for surgery since he hasn’t seen much improvement since April. For me, he only costs a 15th round pick to hold onto but I have Grandal to replace him. You think he’s worth the risk to hold onto because of the upside at a relatively shallow position, or would you be cutting him? Thanks.
