MASH Report (10/29/15)

• My major accomplishment this week was to get the 2015 disabled list information finalized for public use. Let know if any of the information is incorrect or missing.

Edwin Encarnacion had hernia surgery as soon as the Blue Jays were out of the playoffs. Reports say he will be 100% for spring training.

Adrian Beltre had surgery to repair ligament damage in his left thumb.

Third baseman Adrian Beltre had surgery on his left thumb Friday in Los Angeles. The prognosis is a full recovery by Spring Training.

Beltre damaged a ligament in his thumb sliding into second base on May 31 against the Red Sox. He spent three weeks on the disabled list and played the rest of the season dealing with discomfort.

Even with the increasing age and declining power, I see Beltre as a buy low in 2016.

Drew Pomeranz had shoulder surgery to relieve some soreness.

The team announced that Pomeranz underwent a clavicle resection, a minimally invasive procedure meant to relieve pain in the AC joint, where the collarbone meets the highest point of the shoulder blade. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, and the A’s say Pomeranz will begin physical therapy shortly.

Pomeranz has dealt with soreness in that part of his shoulder periodically throughout his career. It got bad enough that he was shut down in late September and had been contemplating whether to have the surgery or just go the rehab route.

• I would not be surprised one bit if Yoenis Cespedes’s shoulder is in worse shape than is currently being reported.

“The cortisone shot relieved the pain and inflammation. But even if I’m not 100 percent, I am certain I will play on Tuesday.[said Cescedes].

“The doctor told me my AC joint is a bit swollen, and that’s why it hurt. It happens to many athletes, but it is not a serious injury, and will heal quickly.”

Cespedes could not lift his left arm when he departed Wednesday’s National League Championship Series clincher against the Chicago Cubs in the second inning. He received a cortisone injection in New York a day later.

• I don’t believe Jurickson Profar will be 100% by spring training because he is playing in the Arizona Fall league. He is only DHing because he can’t throw a baseball yet.
