LABR Mixed Draft Chat

6:58

Jeff Zimmerman: Hi everyone

6:58

Jeff Zimmerman: Here is a link to the draft:

6:59

Jeff Zimmerman: It looks like we have 15 minutes until the first pick

7:00

Jeff Zimmerman: 5 x 5 roto with average

7:00

Mike: Curious how far Lindor will fall.. if early indications are true and his ADP is around 16 ish, that’s right in the Fangraphs wheelhouse.. do they bite?

7:00

Jeff Zimmerman: I think they do but Paul has been tight lipped

7:02

Al Melchior: I’d be surprised if Lindor gets past Paul and Jason, but I’ve been more optimistic about Lindor than what I’ve seen from most analysts.

7:03

Adam: Maybe they go mondesi and merrifield and corner the royals…😝😝

7:03

Jeff Zimmerman: Betting on the Royals offense and only lead to bad results. Might work at the 3-4 turn.

7:04

Scott: can you remind us of the scoring format for LABR?

7:04

Al Melchior: Standard 5×5.

7:05
7:05

Randolph: Is this just a mock or the actual draft

7:06

Jeff Zimmerman: Actual draft they’ll play out

7:06

Spin: Do you guys take the over or under on Max Scherzer going 8th?

7:06

Jeff Zimmerman: Under seeing who is at the top. I’m betting he doesn’t get pack Erikson though

7:07

Jeff Zimmerman: The first 6 usually are heavy on hitting

7:07

Guest: If you’re at the turn first round don’t you absolutely have to go with at least 1 SP?

7:07

Jeff Zimmerman: Just one of the top 3 for me but I’m souring a bit on Sale

7:08

Mickey: Thanks for hosting this chat!   I was accepted into a TGFBI satellite league so I need all of the 15 team strategy prep i can get!

7:08

Al Melchior: Given which hitters are likely off the board, I’d probably take 1 SP at the turn, but I’m with Jeff. Has to be one of the top 3.

7:08

Jeff Zimmerman: no problem

7:09

Derek: Im souring on Sale as well because of what Clay Link in regards to IPs

7:10

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m going to grab a drink and get ready for a long evening

7:10

Spin: Do you think Trea Turner will be the first Nat picked?

7:11

Al Melchior: I would expect it to be Scherzer, but maybe with Lindor falling that changes.

7:12

marinmccoveys: It’s interesting. This is basically a main event NFBC format except I expect to see more punting of decoupled categories like saves and stolen bases.  First, because those stats are increasingly rare and closer roles are increasingly chaotic.  But because here they are just trying to win the league. Whereas winning the Main Event large jackpots rewards picking a generalist team that can compete in all categories.  Discourages punting.  So I’ll be looking for the speed and saves discounting here

7:12

Jeff Zimmerman: It’s a normal league IMO. A few more paths to the top

7:13

Pat G: Can we ask general fantasy questions too?

7:13

Jeff Zimmerman: You can but I may not get answered. The focus is on the draft

7:14

Al Melchior: Yup, draft is first priority, but I’ll try to get to general fantasy Qs if they’re posted.

7:14

Al Melchior: 20 seconds to go…

7:15

Adam: @Jeff, those rankings you posted, are those the projections you’ve been using in all your analysis this offseason?

7:15

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes. I’m not completely done with them but they are as up-to-date as I have them

7:16

Adam: Hypnotic pulsating zeros

7:16

Snid: 00:00

7:16

Al Melchior: Yes, quite soothing, really.

7:17

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m guessing they are making sure everyone is ready to go and maybe taking a long hit in memory of Lawr

7:17

Al Melchior: Trout it is

7:17

Fan of FanBall: joe can’t find his copy of the blackbook?

7:18

Jeff Zimmerman: 1:10 timer?

7:18

Jeff Zimmerman: Whoa … Yelich

7:18

Lennifer : Why are you souring on sale?

7:18

Jeff Zimmerman: IP projections might be on the high side

7:18

Al Melchior: Yeah, I don’t like Yelich at 4

7:19

Al Melchior: And Scherzer in fact is the first Nat to go

7:19

Smith > Vogelbach?: Jeff is your rankings spreadsheet (thanks for that btw) missing Acuna/Soto and some other sophomores like Bader?  Can’t seem to find them

7:19

Jeff Zimmerman: crap, great

7:20

Jeff Zimmerman: Al, the queue is yours, I fixing my sheet

7:20

Al Melchior: 9th is a really tough spot now with Lindor hurt. I don’t envy Joe here.

7:21

Al Melchior: Got it, Jeff.

7:21

Al Melchior: I do agree with Lindor over Turner still.

7:21

Al Melchior: I probably would have gone Sale instead of Lindor though.

7:22

jeff: that sure seemed like an autopick…took the entire time

7:22

Al Melchior: I think it’s just a tough spot

7:23

Pat G: Doesn’t Bregman have 3B/SS elig? That is a pretty big asset in a first round talent.

7:23

Al Melchior: Yes, he does. I expect he’ll go soon.

7:24

Frankensteezy: Jason and Paul won’t even have a chance at a top 3 SP

7:24

Al Melchior: No they won’t. Makes these picks pretty interesting.

7:25

Al Melchior: Judge and Goldy to RotoGraphs. Surprised Kluber went that soon, but Stephania would be in a tough spot for SP by the time it got back to her.

7:26

Scott: Collette just tweeted that those picks were always the plan, unless DeGrom fell to them.

7:26

Chucky : Pretty early on Bauer

7:26

Al Melchior: I have to agree

7:26

Pat G: Thoughts on Corbin this season? Any fear that the slider usage is unsustainable once the league has a chance to adjust?

7:27

Al Melchior: I agree he’s due for some regression, but he’s still a top 20 SP for me.

7:27

Al Melchior: Finally Bregman to Pianow. I love that value.

7:28

Mike: Al, thoughts on first rounders? who you like? dislike?

7:29

Jeff Zimmerman: Back, just a little early on Yelich

7:29

VottomanEmpire: The room must be a little concerned about Bregman’s recovery from late-offseason surgery

7:29

Al Melchior: Not many surprises, and Lindor went about where I’d take him. I thought Baez and Altuve went a bit early.

7:29

Al Melchior: and yes, Yelich was too early

7:29

Jeff Zimmerman: Some, I gave him a 10% replacement level adjustment

7:29

Pat G: Like Altuve, dislike Yelich price

7:30

Al Melchior: I really like Harper at 2.12

7:30

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe Tim will go Royal-Royal

7:31

Pat G: Altuve was fine until he hurt his kneecap and played through it. I think he’s a fantastic value in the late first

7:31

Al Melchior: Ian Kennedy?

7:31

Jeff Zimmerman: His sprint speed dropped over 1 mph

7:31

Al Melchior: I do still have Altuve as my top 2B. What about you, Jeff?

7:32

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s getting there. I’d like to see him in ST

7:32

jeff: i’m surprised severino’s draft stock hasn’t really taken much of a hit after that awful 2nd half

7:33

Jeff Zimmerman: Zach is punting steals for now

7:33

Al Melchior: I get that, and yet when I did my rankings, I was comfortable putting Sevy 8th among SPs. Projection supported it.

7:34

Jeff Zimmerman: I Bloom would have taken Harper, I would love his selections.

7:34

Jeff Zimmerman: For now, I want to see when Mondesi goes

7:34

Al Melchior: Snell went later than I’d thought, but I like where he went.

7:35

Rob: Bryant before Rizzo? Surpris d?

7:36

Al Melchior: Yes, very.

7:36

Al Melchior: Steve passes on pitching through 3 rounds.

7:36

Jeff Zimmerman: yes. I love Rizzo. He was probably the 2H MVP once he got healthy

7:36

Jeff Zimmerman: Whoa

7:37

Jeff Zimmerman: I like Tailon but this seems early

7:37

Al Melchior: Only Steve and Pianow are pitcherless

7:37

Brian: Sporer is pissed Taillon went!

7:37

Rob: love Rendon there.

7:37

RotoB: No one having taken Lindor yet is nuts

7:37

Jeff Zimmerman: He went to Sheehan in the 1st

7:38

Al Melchior: Alan’s team projects for a .247 Avg so far

7:38

Jeff Zimmerman: True

7:38

Jeff Zimmerman: Pham?

7:39

Al Melchior: My bad. Team RG still with no pitching!

7:39

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m going to talk to my boys about that

7:39

UCF Stinks: Pham pick stinks of Collette

7:40

Jeff Zimmerman: So Rudy pulled the trigger

7:40

Pat G: Bellinger seems like a good value there, based on age and where he was going last season.

7:41

Al Melchior: I think it’s a little early. I’d be fine with Hoskins or Aguilar.

7:42

Jeff Zimmerman: I like Erikson’s team so far

7:42

Al Melchior: nm on Hoskins…didn’t play 20 at 1B

7:42

Jeff Zimmerman: But will be qualifed soon

7:43

Al Melchior: true

7:43

Adam: Razzball has mondesi ranked as the 20th hitter and rudy got him at 32nd hitter…

7:43

VottomanEmpire: That would be jumping Aguilar too much over ADP I think, Al. Pick 84 the last 20 days on NFBC

7:43

Rob: I like Rudy si

7:43

Al Melchior: Right. I’d want to fill another need besides 1B and chance it that Aguilar will be there later.

7:44

Jeff Zimmerman: Rudy is the true value drafter

7:44

madvillainy: rudy got him at 49.

7:44

Jeff Zimmerman: hitter, not overall

7:45

VottomanEmpire: Rudy sticks to his (tweaked Steamer) projections pretty firmly, with a little dash of draft flow strategy. Not surprising he appeals to Jeff

7:45

Jeff Zimmerman: Hey …

7:45

Kc: Little early for Segura no?

7:45

Jeff Zimmerman: J.T in the fourth

7:46

Al Melchior: Was just going to type that. Pick isn’t far off ADP, but like with Bellinger, I’d be ok with getting a fallback.

7:46

Al Melchior: talking about Segura btw

7:47

Al Melchior: With Marte and Ramirez on board for Dr. Roto, I’d have gone Sanchez over JTR.

7:47

Al Melchior: Confort-whoa!

7:48

Rupert : Greinke & Price the only two pitchers left in Paul’s top 20. The guys gotta be hoping one of them falls

7:48

Jeff Zimmerman: And now Price who is just not productive

7:49

Al Melchior: I didn’t like Yelich at 4 for Jake, but he made up for it with Harper. He also likes Flaherty more than I do, but I can’t fault taking him there.

7:50

Hoser: 8 teams went with 2 pitchers in the first 4 rounds seems like a lot

7:50

Al Melchior: I answered a question I forgot to post…here it is

7:50

UCF Stinks: Al how do you rate your new coworker’s start?

7:50

Jeff Zimmerman: Not IMO, the first 12 or so are so much better than the rest. I want as many of them as possible and then go hitting

7:51

Jeff Zimmerman: The question now comes to closers

7:51

Jeff Zimmerman: I bet one gets taken around the turn

7:51

VottomanEmpire: Calling it now, FanGraphs gets 2 of Berrios/Price/Wheeler at this turn (unless Jason really twists Paul’s arm about Marquez)

7:51

Jeff Zimmerman: Berrios is gone

7:53

Jeff Zimmerman: Joe takes the full time, everytime

7:53

Jeff Zimmerman: Something is messed up on their end

7:54

Daniel: What’d you think of the Villar pick without an SP

7:55

Jeff Zimmerman: Not a fan but to each their own

7:55

Al Melchior: While it’s a little early for Villar, I don’t mind taking him instead of a SP. At this point, you’ve missed out on an ace, and there are some good SP2s who are undervalued and will be available.

7:56

Brian: Carpenter/Wong/Gyorko are sharing 2 IF spots. Don’t like that for playing time

7:56

Adam: So wheeler and…

7:56

Jeff Zimmerman: Price

7:56

Al Melchior: Always seems to work out for Carpenter

7:57

Al Melchior: Thought Wheeler might go later. He was one of the SPs I thought Pianow could still get.

7:58

Al Melchior: Stephania with Bellinger AND Aguilar!

7:58

Jeff Zimmerman: Bellinger can play OF

7:59

Jeff Zimmerman: Rudy going with safe and extreme

7:59

Al Melchior: and in that context, I like her pick of Bellinger better now

7:59

Fan of FanBall: Jeff and Al… real question.. is there really much difference between Villar and Mondesi?

8:00

Jeff Zimmerman: No expect Mondesi has Ned Yost as a manager who doesn’t care about OBP and red lights.

8:00

Al Melchior: Exactly

8:00

VottomanEmpire: Called it (even with missing Berrios being off the board )Wheeler/Price

8:01

Bud Selig: As commissioner I’m ruling Sheehan’s team Team Hospital Bed.. may the IR/DL be ever in his favor

8:01

Jeff Zimmerman: So it is done

8:02

jeff: mondesi probably has more power, if statcast is any indication

8:02

Brian: Sheehan update: 3 hitters, 4 healthy calf muscles among them

8:02

Al Melchior: This is true, but I think home park factors neutralizes that advantage somewhat.

8:03

Jeff Zimmerman: Bloomfield is putting together a solid team.

8:04

TheTinDoor: I’m scared of MadBum like everyone is, but if I’m Pianow, I take the shot on him over Mikolas as my SP1.

8:04

Al Melchior: Pianow did come back around and take a SP. I think I would have gone Folty over Mikolas for Ks.

8:04

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe not. Pianow may be going with a low WHIP team and stream for Ks and Wins

8:04

VottomanEmpire: Think Pianowski cedes K’s entirely and goes with Hendricks/Freeland types after his Mikolas pick? Or tries to rally back into the SP pool with upsidey flyers?

8:05

Al Melchior: Hendricks would be a great pick if he is going that route.

8:05

Jeff Zimmerman: Morton

8:05

Jeff Zimmerman: Greinke was one

8:06

Chucky : Here comes the RP run

8:06

Al Melchior: At this point, I think you’ve got to prioritize saves. Not many reliable closers left…only 10-12 total.

8:06

Dub Z: Leclerc going soon

8:07

Al Melchior: Even he doesn’t seem that safe, since I could see TEX trading him midseason.

8:07

Jeff Zimmerman: I like Sanchez there

8:07

Jeff Zimmerman: Great value

8:08

Al Melchior: Me too. Big gap between him and JT. Also like Ryan taking Cruz. He always gets a little too much of a discount.

8:09

VottomanEmpire: Doolittle next closer to go?

8:09

Al Melchior: I’d guess Vazquez.

8:09

Brian: it’s like everybody forgot about him

8:09

VottomanEmpire: Sanchez and Conforto basically traded spots from ADP to pick slot in this draft

8:09

TheTinDoor: That gap between JT Realmuto and Gary Sanchez didn’t exist a week ago

8:09

Fan of FanBall: agree jeff especially where JT went

8:10

Jeff Zimmerman: My only issue with Vazquez is he might get traded

8:11

VottomanEmpire: Doolittle/Turner at the turn?

8:11

Pat G: Was wondering where doolittle was… like that pick considering the other closers already going

8:11

Al Melchior: I love both of the RG picks. Cano has gone so late in every mock I’ve done so far.

8:12

Al Melchior: Had a nice power rebound last year.

8:12

VottomanEmpire: damn, Cano over Turner. Similar player type obviously

8:12

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not sold with RG. They need some speed at some point

8:13

Matt w: Paul’s team is going to be really slow.

8:13

Al Melchior: and there goes Mallex

8:14

TheTinDoor: My vlookup really wishes the industry would just pick one between “Nick” and “Nicholas” Castellanos

8:15

Jeff Zimmerman: The Jr. with Vlad is kicking my butt

8:15

Jeff Zimmerman: There is not Jr in his real name

8:16

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not a fan of Iglesias

8:16

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s in a time share

8:16

Al Melchior: Wade Davis always seems to fall, but he finished strong last year. I think he can be ok in COL.

8:16

Al Melchior: Yes. I’d rather wait for Davis than take Iglesias.

8:16

VottomanEmpire: what speed is left for them? Billy hamilton? Gamble on Garrett Hampson’s playing time? I bet they spring Amed Rosario if he falls to the 135/136 turn, and take Hampson and maybe Jorge Polanco later.

8:17

Jeff Zimmerman: Peraza

8:17

Jeff Zimmerman: Inciarte

8:17

Al Melchior: so basically 20-25 SB players

8:17

Jeff Zimmerman: I missed him

8:18

Jeff Zimmerman: Dahl is about unplayable on the road and especially against lefties

8:19

Adam: Laureano

8:19

Al Melchior: Good call, Adam.

8:19

Jeff Zimmerman: DeShields

8:20

Al Melchior: I don’t love Mullins, but he could steal 20+ with Buck gone

8:20

Jones : Bloomfield crushing it

8:20

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree

8:20

TheTinDoor: 1/15th of every league will *never* own DeShields again

8:21

Fan of FanBall: Greg Allen, Tim Anderson

8:21

Al Melchior: yes and yes

8:21

Jeff Zimmerman: Knebel is a decent closer still out there

8:22

Al Melchior: There’s Leclerc. Still no Davis.

8:22

Al Melchior: I don’t trust Counsell’s reliever usage, but at this point, someone should draft Knebel.

8:23

Jeff Zimmerman: Gallo works perfectly for Dr. Roto with AVG and speed early

8:23

Al Melchior: Was just thinking that. Guess it’s good he didn’t take Sanchez over JT!

8:24

Al Melchior: Yates is good there. I was kind of sleeping on him.

8:24

Jeff Zimmerman: Robertson is another option. Even with just 15 Saves, he’d provide great value

8:24

Fan of FanBall: At one point do you stop with the lukewrm saves guys and go for the k and ratio guys?

8:25

Al Melchior: Very soon. I think once Davis and Knebel are gone.

8:26

Jeff Zimmerman: I like that little 3B run

8:27

Chucky : Have a question. Play in a league with Saves and Holds as separate categories. Any recommendations on strategy?

8:28

Jeff Zimmerman: Focus on talent and both should come.

8:28

Adam: starting pitching in this section of the draft is so ugly

8:29

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree. I have a few target in here (Ray, Musgrove) but I’m passing or value shopping

8:29

Al Melchior: You bet. I’ll be trying to get a good 1-2-3 and then just wait and wait for my sleepers.

8:29

Jeff Zimmerman: I do like one of the LAD 20 GS guys (Hill, Ryu, Maeda)

8:29

Al Melchior: I want to draft lots of Ryu.

8:30

VottomanEmpire: There’s the Amed pick

8:31

Derek: No OF for RotoLady yet

8:31

Jeff Zimmerman: I like early pitching but she may be taking it too far

8:31

Jeff Zimmerman: And now she does

8:31

Al Melchior: I like the Peralta pick. That’s about where he’s been going, but I think last season was legit for him.

8:32

Matt w: With the stretched out schedule is anyone making conscious effort not to double tap teams. Paul has 3 mets in his offense

8:33

Jeff Zimmerman: I need to take a break. Bedtime for kids

8:33

Al Melchior: I’ve gotcha, Jeff

8:34

Adam: if the yankees don’t sign anyone else and luke voit gets in for 600 PA, how different is he from muncy really?

8:34

Al Melchior: He’s not really. I actually have Voit ranked higher. I’m not taking Muncy’s PT for granted.

8:35

Al Melchior: I have to wonder if Pianow would have taken Hendricks there.

8:36

Fan of FanBall: voit 600PA? lets not push it

8:36

Al Melchior: I do agree here, but I like him better than Muncy if he gets 500 PA.

8:36

Adam: and voit is probably going to go way later

8:36

Al Melchior: and there’s that

8:36

TheTinDoor: Sheehan started off awfully heavy in IL guys, but I’m loving Grandal/Cutch back-to-back

8:37

Al Melchior: and Haniger was a nice pick, too

8:37

db: nicepick by bloomfield thought he might go alvarado

8:37

Al Melchior: I think it’s great value for Davis, and I’d take him over Alvarado. I’m waiting on saves at this point.

8:38

Jeff Zimmerman: Alvarado is a nice sleep clsoer

8:38

Al Melchior: I think Hicks is, too

8:39

Brian: He’s gotta be punting K’s. And wins. And… saves??

8:39

Dub Z: Yahoo sports has no pitching…

8:39

Dub Z: Yahoo sports has no pitching!

8:39

Al Melchior:

Who gets most of the COL 2B PAs?

Hampson (80.3% | 53 votes)
McMahon (7.5% | 5 votes)
Rodgers (3.0% | 2 votes)
Other (9.0% | 6 votes)

Total Votes: 66
8:39

Jack: I know the speed is depleted but hampson this early is a huge gamble

8:40

Jeff Zimmerman: They are talking a platoon with him

8:40

Jones : Hoping it’s hampson, but I’m sure Reynolds will force Murphy to 2b knowing the Rox

8:40

Nick: Bridich will find a way to scorn another youngster, it’s his sworn duty

8:41

Jeff Zimmerman: It’s his sworn job

8:42

Jeff Zimmerman: Nice value with Hill

8:43

Al Melchior: I like the value on the last 4 picks

8:43

Al Melchior: not BHam

8:43

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not a Glasnow fan. Lot’s of talk of changes with the Rays but results stayed constant

8:44

Petey: Everyone avoiding Darvish like the plague

8:44

Jeff Zimmerman: Not anymore

8:44

Al Melchior: Of the 4, I liked Glasnow the least, but at this stage, I like him as an upside pick.

8:45

Keith Chicago: What your guys take on Nimmo this year. I acquired him in an OBP league…..

8:45

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s fine depending on a teams’ needs

8:45

Al Melchior: I’ve got him 54th among OFs for standard 5×5, but will probably have him quite a bit higher for OBP.

8:46

Adam: is it actually stephania drafting? if so that’s a big signal that she is comfortable with Darvish’s health

8:46

Brian: Stephania the injury guru likes Darvish… interesting.

8:46

Petey: That is some real value at the end of the 11th for Yu.

8:47

Jeff Zimmerman: I like ERod there

8:47

VottomanEmpire: And Laureano over Meadows, hm

8:47

Jeff Zimmerman: I little high for Ohtani for me

8:48

Al Melchior: I like Laureano, but it did feel a little early

8:49

Brian: You have Ohtani ranked 37th, Jeff!

8:49

Zach: Why do we not like Seranthony in this pack of RPs? What am I missing

8:49

Jeff Zimmerman: I need to cut down on the PA and SB

8:49

Al Melchior: That Robertson will probably get at least half the saves.

8:50

TheTinDoor: Cody Allen should get 30+ saves based on that contract alone, right?

8:50

Al Melchior: I still think he could pitch his way out of the job. Buttrey is a pretty nice Plan B.

8:50

Mickey: Rudy is crushing this draft

8:51

Keith Chicago: Jeffress or Hader more saves this year?

8:52

Jeff Zimmerman: Hader

8:52

Al Melchior: Agreed. I think he gets 7 or 8.

8:52

Jeff Zimmerman: I think Knebel runs away with the job. He was lights out after demotion

8:52

Jeff Zimmerman: Porcello = Price and six rounds apart

8:53

Jeff Zimmerman: Another solid pick for Bloomfield

8:55

Fan of FanBall: JOSH JAMES

8:55

Al Melchior:

Which Padres OF gets the fewest PAs?

Cordero (56.7% | 46 votes)
Margot (16.0% | 13 votes)
Renfroe (8.6% | 7 votes)
Reyes (18.5% | 15 votes)

Total Votes: 81
8:56

Adam: i’m as much into james as everyone else but having him as your SP3 has to be a bit scary right?

8:56

Jeff Zimmerman: A little

8:56

Carmen: Thoughts on the renfroe pick?

8:56

Jeff Zimmerman: Considering he may start the season in the minors

8:56

Al Melchior: I like it, but my biggest concern is playing time. Hence the poll.

8:56

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree

8:57

Jeff Zimmerman: I like some full-time bats more, Dickerson or Kepler

8:58

Jeff Zimmerman: Ass Dribble goes off the board

8:59

jeff: mchugh is an awesome pick there

8:59

Al Melchior: I think he’ll provide a good enough return here, but it’s about the earliest I’ve seen him go.

8:59

Chucky : Everyone forget Miggy?

8:59

Al Melchior: Miggy who?

9:00

Al Melchior: Yeah, he’s a good value pick now.

9:00

JS : Why is everyone shying away from Eaton?

9:00

Al Melchior: Platoon maybe?

9:01

Jeff Zimmerman: My daughter’s taking over as I go find something. Good luck

9:01

Jeff Zimmerman: yo yo yo was up

9:02

LP: Hi yall!houghts of Bader against the last 3-4 rds of OF?

9:03

Al Melchior: I don’t think he’s quite on the same level as the other OFs drafted. Not a bad SB option, though.

9:03

Al Melchior: yo yo yo!

9:03

Brian: playing time issue for Bader… Ozuna/Fowler/Martinez, and at some point, O’Neill all battling

9:04

Jeff Zimmerman: Yah i agree with you guys on that

9:04

Al Melchior: Maybe, but I’m more worried about Fowler and Martinez stealing PT from each other.

9:04

Al Melchior: Musgrove and Eaton at last

9:04

Jeff Zimmerman: what does PT mean

9:04

Al Melchior: playing time

9:06

Al Melchior:

Which Gurriel would you draft first?

Lourdes Jr (46.0% | 23 votes)
Yuli (54.0% | 27 votes)

Total Votes: 50
9:07

Jeff Zimmerman: oh ok thanks dad didn’t know what PT means so thanks alot

9:08

Al Melchior: you’re welcome

9:08

Brian: Really like Andrus this year. he was hitting the cover off before he got hurt. steals should bounce back, too

9:08

Al Melchior: And he’s going late enough that there is so little risk

9:08

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m back, sorry about that

9:08

Fan of FanBall: Does Lourdes have a chance to be this year’s Marwin?

9:09

Jeff Zimmerman: If he plays

9:09

Al Melchior: Yes, good comp. FWIW I thought Camargo would be the next Marwin, but I think that window might have closed.

9:10

Jeff Zimmerman: Roto lady with 2 risky picks

9:11

Matt w: Freeland being seriously faded, no one a believer?

9:11

Jeff Zimmerman: Miggy is off the board

9:11

Al Melchior: He’s not a bad value at this point, but there are still at least a couple of SPs I like better.

9:12

TheTinDoor: where do you see the risk with Schwarber?

9:12

Jeff Zimmerman: He can’t hit lefties

9:12

Jeff Zimmerman: I love that Ryu pick

9:13

Al Melchior: Rd 15. Spectacular for Ryu

9:14

Fan of FanBall: Surprised Profar not taken yete?

9:14

Jeff Zimmerman: 8th round

9:15

Rob D: Is Minter another good value RP?

9:16

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe. I’m passing on closers here. I’d bottom feed off the scum

9:16

Al Melchior: I like the skill set and am not that enamored of Vizcaino, but his chances at getting saves is too sketchy.

9:16

Al Melchior: I’d just as soon keep waiting.

9:16

Jeff Zimmerman: Nice Polanco pick

9:17

Fan of FanBall: Who would you guys draft first this year… Betances, Britton, Ottavino?

9:18

Jeff Zimmerman: Betances, best talent

9:18

Al Melchior: Betances. I expect he’ll be higher in the pecking order if Chapman needs a fill-in, and he’ll probably have the best value in other categories.

9:19

Al Melchior: Seems like an appropriate time to take fliers on Senzel and Luzardo.

9:19

VottomanEmpire: No Grichuk yet. my fave post-200 straight power bat

9:19

Al Melchior: Seems like he should go soon…

9:20

Jeff Zimmerman: I really like the Voit pick

9:21

Jeff Zimmerman: This is the dart throwing section. Gamble on upside

9:21

Jeff Zimmerman: Skaggs

9:21

Fan of FanBall: I really hope someone takes Daniel Palka. I think he is a sleeper candidate this year

9:22

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree, he’s a cheaper Schwarber

9:22

Al Melchior: Yes, Ketel! One of my favorite sleepers.

9:23

JS : When do you think Didi goes?

9:23

Al Melchior: His NFBC ADP is just inside 400, so it could be awhile.

9:23

Jeff Zimmerman: I have him fairly high with replacement baked in. Value comes down to number of DL slots

9:24

Adam: are either of you guys believers in the use two high inning relievers (ie betances + peacock) to form a free ace in daily moves leagues?

9:24

Al Melchior: I believe in it enough that I want to use it this year.

9:26

Jeff Zimmerman: Nice 1B value in this round

9:27

Al Melchior: I think this is the first time this year I’ve seen Strop go before Morrow.

9:27

Jeff Zimmerman: He should

9:27

Al Melchior: I’m pretty much avoiding the CHC closer situation.

9:28

Al Melchior: I’d certainly be more likely to draft Strop.

9:28

Jeff Zimmerman: I’ll take the Stroop Saves and hope he keeps the job

9:28

Jeff Zimmerman: If not, too bad

9:28

Fan of FanBall: Just making sure this is a redraft and not a keeper because Tim’s team would be amazing in keeper

9:28

Jeff Zimmerman: Redraft

9:29

Jeff Zimmerman: Catchers are getting thin

9:29

Fan of FanBall: Think Tim might be a little too into the young guys for a redraft

9:30

Jeff Zimmerman: He could have a full bench from guys already drafted

9:30

Al Melchior: Narvaez is about the last catcher I’d be interested in drafting. Wouldn’t want to get much beyond him.

9:31

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m big on getting 2 who do something

9:31

Jeff Zimmerman: besides hit .220 with 12 home runs

9:32

Al Melchior: Agreed. .220/12 isn’t going to cut it.

9:32

Fan of FanBall: Better year? O’Hearn, Bour, Cron, White?

9:32

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m all in with Bor

9:32

Jeff Zimmerman: Bour

9:33

Jeff Zimmerman: With O’Hearn, he’s Matt Adams, platoon bat. Was last season with Dozier

9:33

Al Melchior: I’ve got Cron ranked highest, but I feel like I should revisit Bour.

9:34

Al Melchior: Grichuk and Franmil…cheap power

9:34

Jeff Zimmerman: I have Skaggs so much higher.

9:34

LP: Feelings on Gregory Polanco holding down one of your bench spots early this year?

9:35

Jeff Zimmerman: Tough one, now in leagues with DL slots, he’s a major target of mine

9:35

Jeff Zimmerman: I want to see how Rudy handles C

9:35

Al Melchior: He’s typically going late enough that I could see stashing him. Not much risk if I decide to drop him eventually.

9:35

JS : Suprised Sonny Gray before Alex Wood?

9:35

Jeff Zimmerman: nods

9:36

Al Melchior: Gray over Wood sounds about right to me. Probably more innings, and I like the bounceback potential.

9:37

Fan of FanBall: Jeff any concern once Ohtani is back the balancing act of Pujols, Ohtani and Bour?

9:38

Jeff Zimmerman: Sure, but it’s a 18th round pick. I never get attached to a player taken this late

9:39

Jeff Zimmerman: I love Kepler at this point. Huge improvements last year

9:39

Al Melchior: It’s amazing he lasted this long. And since it’s the time to take fliers, I like the McNeil and Boyd picks.

9:40

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree.

9:40

Al Melchior: It’s the time of night my eyes start to get tired, so I thought Dr. Roto just took Macro Gonzales.

9:41

Fan of FanBall: My boy Niko

9:41

Jeff Zimmerman: A little early but I do like him this late along with Semien

9:41

Jeff Zimmerman: Joe with Washington’s C

9:42

Fan of FanBall: Would much rather have Niko in 18 than Profar in 8

9:42

Fan of FanBall: No way there is a 10 round difference between those two

9:43

Fan of FanBall: I’m going to predict right now Andrea is getting Willie Adames

9:44

Al Melchior: Poll results getting validated. Franchy will be the last of the Padres OF from the poll to get taken.

9:44

Jeff Zimmerman: Souza is a nice pick

9:44

Jeff Zimmerman: Kiermaier is a worth a shot at this point. Won’t get past Collette

9:45

Al Melchior: I like that Collette call

9:45

LP: Are there any late round (this range) infield-eligible players that might gain OF early? Ketel made me think of it

9:45

Jeff Zimmerman: McNiel

9:45

Al Melchior: I know he went 4 rounds ago, but Senzel

9:46

Jeff Zimmerman: Here is a thread I had on such players:

Jeff Zimmerman
@jeffwzimmerman

Who are the players who should gain extra position eligibility this season? Thanks

I have so far:
Machado: 3B (dep… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

4 Feb 2019
9:47

Jeff Zimmerman: Collette is going to kick Rudy’s ass

9:47

Fan of FanBall: Just so frustrating with KK. Just stay on the field my man and he’s 20/20

9:48

Al Melchior: Was just thinking it was about Alfaro time.

9:49

Jeff Zimmerman: This is the part of the draft I’ll study the most.

9:50

Jeff Zimmerman: What might people see in some of these late picks

9:50

Jeff Zimmerman: Looks like Rudy needs some lawn work done

9:50

Jeff Zimmerman: He does live in Texas

9:51

Fan of FanBall: Bour finally

9:51

Fan of FanBall: and like Gibson this late

9:51

Al Melchior: Would be interesting to see who pursues safety picks vs. those who go for upside.

9:52

Jeff Zimmerman: I expect some closers coming off like Boxberger and Herrera

9:52

Al Melchior: I was surprised Colome went before Herrera.

9:54

Shaner: Feel like the FG team could have gone Adames over Tucker there. More playing time guaranteed and needing a MI. Dont know who else theyre going to go with at this point at MI with the same upside as Adames

9:54

Jeff Zimmerman: Adames has 20 SB upside

9:54

Nick: do y’all agree with Burnes going before Woodruff?

9:54

Jeff Zimmerman: It’s close, not sure with them

9:55

Al Melchior: No, I’d rather have Woodruff.

9:55

Jeff Zimmerman: They are always go before I have a chance to draft them

9:55

Shaner: Adames has 20/20 upside to me

9:56

Fan of FanBall: Suprised Lopez went before Rodon?

9:57

Al Melchior: Lopez is typically getting drafted earlier than Rodon, but he shouldn’t be.

9:57

Fan of FanBall: Brasier over barnes?

9:58

Al Melchior: I have no idea. My hunch is that, as it stands, Barnes would have more value. I just wish BOS would just sign somebody so I don’t have to think about it.

9:59

Jeff Zimmerman: I like both closers taken here

10:00

Jeff Zimmerman: Huge steal there for Erikson

10:01

Nick: best team fit for Adam Jones at this point?

10:01

Jeff Zimmerman: There isn’t one

10:01

Al Melchior: CLE?

10:01

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s just not good so probably a 4th OF

10:01

Jeff Zimmerman: CLE does make sense

10:02

Jeff Zimmerman: Just the third Marlin picked

10:03

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m a little surprised

10:03

Jeff Zimmerman: Anderson is still out there

10:03

Al Melchior: Would think we could have a Trevor Richards and Caleb Smith sighting soon.

10:04

Daniel Castro: How much of O’Hearn’s crazy end of the year power was just fools gold? You guys like the pick?

10:05

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s fine here. Just remember he has Matt Adams upside

10:05

Al Melchior: What Jeff said.

10:06

Jeff Zimmerman: Roto Lady could crush SB if everything falls right

10:06

BigDawg: Adames has really not been picked yet?

10:06

Jeff Zimmerman: Went in round 21

10:07

Al Melchior: And aside from Baez, Roto Lady got SBs on the cheap.

10:07

Daniel Castro: As a fellow Buxton owner, also crossing my fingers ‘everything falls right’

10:07

Al Melchior: Astudillo got 7 SBs in AAA!

10:08

Jeff Zimmerman: Willy finally gets picked

10:09

Nancy Yost : Surprised by the lack of Fulmer love

10:10

JS : Schebler or Kemp?

10:10

Al Melchior: So much health risk with him and not enough upside to compensate for it.

10:10

Jeff Zimmerman: Kemp to start

10:10

Al Melchior: Team Schebler here

10:10

Jeff Zimmerman: Pillar is a nice pick at this point. full-time player in the 23rd round

10:11

Al Melchior: But Wilmer is an even better pick here!

10:11

Al Melchior: Finally a chance to play everyday

10:12

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree.

10:12

Al Melchior: Ryan has made a lot of really good picks.

10:12

Jeff Zimmerman: love the value

10:13

Jeff Zimmerman: These full time-outs are killing me

10:14

Al Melchior: If you’re going to wait on catcher, Iannetta is not a bad C to pick up.

10:15

Jeff Zimmerman: Stroman has fallen hard

10:15

Lazzaro Da Fietta: What round did Buehler go?

10:16

Al Melchior: 3rd round, 2nd pick

10:16

VottomanEmpire: and this is why Jeff quit TGFBI and left slow drafts behind

10:16

Jeff Zimmerman: but with 4 hour clocks

10:17

Daniel Castro: Breeze machine Tyler O’Neill

10:17

Jeff Zimmerman: He can’t even hit fastballs. 25% SwStr% with them

10:17

Jeff Zimmerman: Cahill is great, when pitching

10:18

Daniel Castro: Strahm is a guy I like a LOT this late

10:18

Al Melchior: You and me both.

10:18

Jeff Zimmerman: Local JUCO kid. Same JUCO as Bote

10:19

Al Melchior: Very cool! And someone should take a flier on Bote about now.

10:20

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m not a fan of the Parker pick, just no upside. Grab Pineda instead

10:21

Al Melchior: I was just thinking I like it (though not as much as I’d like Pineda). I think he starts off as closer.

10:21

JS : Delino or Willie Calhoun first?

10:21

Jeff Zimmerman: Delino should go

10:21

Al Melchior: Delino for me. Not sure what Calhoun will do, but I figure Delino will get his SBs.

10:21

Jeff Zimmerman: Martin is a great pick there. Likely leading off

10:22

Al Melchior: Including Pineda, there are 3 SPs who should definitely be drafted who haven’t gone yet. Will be interested to see if any go undrafted.

10:23

Jeff Zimmerman: Keller for me

10:23

Jeff Zimmerman: DeShields is off the board

10:24

Al Melchior: Minor. There’s one of my 3.

10:24

Al Melchior: Appropriate that Christin Stewart is taken in the twilight of this draft.

10:25

Snid: No Freddy Peralta ?

10:25

Al Melchior: Wasn’t one of my 3 I was thinking of, but he needs to be drafted.

10:26

Jeff Zimmerman: Samardjiza

10:26

Al Melchior: Anibal. That’s 2.

10:27

BigDawg: Any hope for Samardzija this year?  He says he’s healthy (naturally).

10:27

Al Melchior: Worth a try late, but I wouldn’t want to take the risk earlier. Just two years removed from good peripherals.

10:27

Jeff Zimmerman: Sure and if not, drop him and move on. He’s been a top-30 at points in his career

10:29

Jeff Zimmerman: It’s the round of platoon only bats. Teoscar, Palka, Pederson

10:29

Al Melchior: Palka drafted!

10:29

Lazzaro Da Fietta: Ferguson have any value in LA?

10:30

Al Melchior: I doubt it. Too much of a logjam.

10:30

Al Melchior: aaaand Pineda. All 3 drafted.

10:31

Jeff Zimmerman: he was just a top-40 pitcher just a couple years ago

10:31

Jeff Zimmerman: Love that Hicks pick

10:34

Snid: Was Danny Jansen in the 13th about right?

10:34

Al Melchior: Maybe a tad early. Can’t complain.

10:34

JS : Should we expect a Giolito pick or no?

10:35

Al Melchior: I’m expecting no, but I’ll have him on my late-round flier list.

10:37

Daniel Castro: Think a team makes a dart throw for Merrill Kelly?

10:38

Al Melchior: I don’t think he’s must-draft, but would be a good gamble. I’d guess he’ll go undrafted.

10:39

Jeff Zimmerman: Someone should with Kelly

10:39

Jeff Zimmerman: I have his projection near Kikuchi

10:39

Kram: Kingery a target for you two? Post-hype rebound this year?

10:40

Al Melchior: They heard you, Jeff.

10:40

Jeff Zimmerman: No really

10:40

Jeff Zimmerman: Wow

10:40

Jeff Zimmerman: The Morales pick is slick

10:41

Al Melchior: I’m not really in on Kingery. I was skeptical of his skills last year, and I’m not sure where he gets playing time.

10:42

Jeff Zimmerman: Sheehan grabs Kingery

10:42

Al Melchior: Back to back Peraltas.

10:42

Al Melchior: Joe Ross before Tyson Ross. Hmm.

10:43

Jeff Zimmerman: I like how both of their first names end in ‘y’

10:43

Al Melchior: Somebody draft Wandy Peralta now.

10:43

Al Melchior: I liked the Morales pick, too, and also the Eflin pick.

10:44

Al Melchior: Very proud that Team RG drafted Franchy.

10:45

JS : Young guys: Willie Calhoun, Brandon Lowe, JP Crawford, Barreto worth drafting?

10:46

Al Melchior: I’d probably only be targeting Lowe out of this group.

10:46

Fan of FanBall: Did no one see Ryan Pressley last year?

10:46

Jeff Zimmerman: Erikson with Keller

10:46

Al Melchior: Nice.

10:46

Al Melchior: Still time for Pressly to find a home!

10:47

JS : What about a chance on Tulo, especially for Steve with Didi already secured?

10:47

Al Melchior: Tulo would not be a priority for me, even this late.

10:47

Jeff Zimmerman: Why not, just move on.

10:48

Al Melchior: Calhoun run

10:48

Jeff Zimmerman: Yep, I like both at this point

10:49

Al Melchior: There you go, Fan of FanBall. Pressly to Tim McLeod.

10:49

Jeff Zimmerman: Pressley and Trumbo are two nice picks for 28th round

10:50

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d take a chance to see if C Davis can hit

10:51

Fan of FanBall: Like Pressley this year. Also like Taylor Rogers as a late flyer in very deep leagues

10:51

Al Melchior: And there goes Rogers. Would have been a shame if he went undrafted.

10:52

JS : Suprised no Tim Beckham selection?

10:52

Fan of FanBall: Well I’m done lol.

10:52

Al Melchior: Yes, surprised re: Beckham.

10:53

Al Melchior: You gotta love that he’s available so late.

10:54

Snid: And Mr. Irrevelent is?

10:54

Jeff Zimmerman: And done with Todd Frazier. I’m out

10:54

Al Melchior: Todd Frazier of Toms River, NJ

10:55

Al Melchior: Thanks to everyone!
