Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – November 29th, 2023

Check out this week’s chat!

1:05

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone, welcome to the chat!! Get your questions in, I’m letting the dogs out & filling my water bottle, but then we’ll get goin’!

1:07

Paul Sporer: Emilio Pagan to the Reds… I’m sure that’ll go well w/his homers in Cincy lol

1:12

Pedro: Dynasty points league (so no wins), how far apart are Grayson, Detmers and Woo value wise for 2024?

1:13

Paul Sporer: I’ve got Grayson a level above the other 2 and then Detmers / Woo right by each other leaning toward Detmers

1:13

Kyle: Emilio Pagan and his career 52% FB rate in GABP seems like maybe a bad idea. If Glasnow gets traded to the Reds, how much will it hurt him?

1:15

Paul Sporer: Yes it could be really tough for Pagan in Cincy. Glasnow would get hurt, too, but has enough skill to still be interesting. His price would have to drop a good for me in Cincy, though

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – November 22nd, 2023

Y’all really showed out on this day-before-Thanksgiving chat!

Transcript is now available:

1:00

Paul Sporer: Hey everyone! Thanks for coming out!!!

1:02

James: What prospects do you see making an impact on the ‘24 Mets

1:06

Paul Sporer: I still have confidence in Brett Baty. I like Mark Vientos as a power-only guy. Drew Gilbert, who they got from Houston in the JV trade is interesting. Ronny Mauricio has an appealing pwr-spd profile, it is undercut by a rough plate profile that includes too many Ks and not nearly enough BB.

1:07

Ben: Confidence in Framber next year? Seems to have faded a bit down the stretch…what tier of pitcher would you rank him with?

1:12

Paul Sporer: Yeah I’m not going anywhere with him. He had a brutal July and then a few roadbumps the rest of the way with several gems still mixed in, including the August 1st no-hitter. I’d love for the rough playoff to drop his price a bit, I’ll gladly buy

1:12

Pete Rose Jr.: Can you see the Reds trading India to Seattle for a young SP?

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – November 15th, 2023

Chats are back! Check out the transcript from today:

1:05

Paul Sporer: And we’re back! The chats return! (Might still have one-off misses around the holidays, but no longer on planned hiatus)

1:07

Eds: Thoughts about a Sleeper & the Bust Gladiator league?

1:07

Paul Sporer: We gotta do that!!! I’ll mention it to Justin, he’s elite at arranging things like that

1:08

John: Can you explain the Matt Damon references I always see in these chats? Always feel like I’m missing out on a joke

1:10

Paul Sporer: I think it just started as a reference to Team America and has just kinda stuck around since —

1:10

jack: Keeper league where you keep two players and lose a draft pick one slot above where they were taken. Already keeping Carroll (7th round, so forfeiting 6th round pick) but have to choose between Altuve (14th) and Torkelson (21st) – Altuve obviously is better overall but Tork plus the 13th rounder might be better than Altuve plus the 20th?

Breakout Breakdown: First Base

Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

Last spring, I wrote up a group of first basemen who I saw as valuable picks in the draft. Let’s review the initial projection, see what happened, and grade these suckers!

1B

Wil Myers | CIN

  • My Projection: .265/.343/.493, 24 HR, 66 R, 71 RBI, 7 SB in 505 PA
  • Final Result: .189/.257/.283, 3 HR, 11 R, 12 RBI, 2 SB in 141 PA

What Happened: OK, we’re starting off hot!! Well, hot vomit. Let’s not beat around the bush, this is a massive F-. Myers completely flamed out and was eventually run out of Cincinnati altogether as they called up a bevy of premium prospects, most of whom clicked upon arrival. He managed a meager 43 wRC+ in his tiny sample and was let go in late-June.
