A couple of weeks ago, I did a pretty terrible job of recommending pitching streamers for each day over the remainder of the fantasy week. The results of the five starters were not pretty. Together, they pitched a total of just 26.1 innings, earning 1 win and posting a gruesome 6.49 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. But hey, they did record 29 strikeouts! I am rarely a fan of the streaming strategy to begin with, but given your league context and standings situation, there are times in which it might be advisable. If you deem that this is the case, then here’s your guide.

It has been quite the Major League debut for Astros starting pitcher Jarred Cosart. Through 8 starts, he has allowed just 9 earned runs over 51 innings for a minuscule 1.59 ERA. The 23-year-old rookie is no doubt making waves as one of the better young pitchers in the game. And while that may well be true, it certainly isn’t because of how he has performed thus far.

September is almost upon us, which is when my job gets infinitely easier. Luckily, a trade and poor performance from an incumbent has given these interesting lads an opportunity. Hopefully the opportunity is used to perform well and earn some Only league value.

Yesterday I discussed the five hitters whose isolated slugging percentage (ISO) has declined the most compared with last year. So today, of course, I’ll check in on the hitters who have enjoyed a surge. Unfortunately, it comes without a super clever title. But, I promise you the analysis remains top notch :-). And yes, that may have been the first smiley ever inserted into a FanGraphs article. I try to start trends, what can I say. I limited my comparisons to those hitters who are “qualified” this year and also accumulated 400 plate appearances last year.

With just over a month to go, time is running out for offensive disappointments to get back on track and start showing the type of power projected of them before the season began. When a hitter goes through a power drought, there could be a number of explanations, such as an injury, aging effects or good ole’ random variation (read: bad luck/fluke). These five hitters have seen their ISO rates plummet the most compared to last season. Let’s try to figure out what went wrong.

During last night’s Fantasy Baseball Roundtable radio show that I participate in every Wednesday night, I was asked in one of our regular segments whether Felix Hernandez would remain an effective pitcher after the age of 30. On the surface, this seemed like a pretty absurd question. Of course he would! What would make anyone think he wouldn’t? This article won’t actually answer that question.
