A better way to say “supplement steals when getting Mondesi” is to treat his SB as fewer. Don’t believe the average SB will be 40. Expect 15-20. By keeping expectations low, even though the thought is on the upside, you don’t miss out on the SB he doesn’t achieve. It’s a hedge move. It’s an expensive move. It’s a move that should guarantee solid results in SB if things go bad.
There is a very good chance Mondesi will not be a starter for KC this year. His injuries are too many to believe he can stay on the field for 150+ games. However, I believe if he can stay on the field, he will get his 40 steals. As far as Hunter Dozier, the Royals will feel compelled to let him get his at bats. He has a large contract for KC, so they can’t let both him and Santana ride the pines.
