I totally get Paul’s Rays point—if you’re going to sell while staying viable, they do it better than anyone. But also agree with Justin that you can’t see them as anything but worse, maybe by a decent amount, this year. You lose two ~3.5/4 WAR / 125+ wRC+ bats and the most reliable IP eater. Mayyybe Caminero replaces Paredes, maybe he struggles for 2 months like every other top prospect this season. Morel – we don’t even know he’ll play every day, or that he can get the obp over .310 this year. Rasmussen they plan to use out of the pen, neither he nor Springs may be healthy. A lot of “if’s.”
But shame on both of you for blowing off Ty Fitz! He’s clearly not a “zero” for power: went 20/30 in ~100 GP at aaa last year. Hit 8 bombs in just 17 GP there this year. At AA in ‘22 he went 20/20. When I finally have my own pod I will invite Justin on to debate the merits of zone contact vs tools. Fitzgerald is a very good athlete! (Yes, I too believe he’ll hit like .240 ros but there’s Something here).
Appreciate you guys.
Well said! I probably overstated TB’s case in that they have definitely taken a hit, but rather pointing out how they could easily not miss a beat if a few things click… but those things — Springs, Caminero, Ras, etc… — aren’t sure things by any stretch!
I hooope TFitz is a god, but I’m skeptical lol
