The Daily Grind: A Deal In The Works

Sometime in the next few days, The Daily Grind Invitational will be replaced with a freeroll. Said freeroll will have a small cash prize for the winner. That’s fine. Whatever. Freerolls are ok. Notably, the performance of the freeroll will be used to determine the proper size and scope for a TDG daily GPP. And, if I get my way, it will be a no rake GPP. So… start stretching or warming up or whatever you need to do to get ready. This is as specific as I can get at this time – nothing has been finalized, but we do seem to have a verbal agreement in place.

AGENDA

  1. TDG Invitational
  2. Weather Reports
  3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse
  4. SaberSim Says…
  5. First Draft, Second Draft
  6. Some Video Highlights

1. The Daily Grind Invitational

Matlock33 becomes the first participant of the season to place in multiple contests. Congrats on riding Tanner Roark, Andrew Triggs, and Yasmani Grandal to victory. Behold the leaderboard.

Let’s keep it simple – $2, 25 entries, DraftKings. See ya tonight.

PS – New users who deposit with my referral link get $20 bonus cash. I also get $20. It’s a win-win.

2. Weather Reports

Detroit has a threat of storms all afternoon. That could be a real bummer since I’m planning to watch the game with Nick Pollack of Pitcher List (monitor either of our twitter accounts for more details).

The Yankees and Rays may be doomed for another rainout. A delay is nearly certain. The Phillies-Mets game is slightly more likely to happen since it’s a night game. They may need to contend with early rain and… fog? Cincinnati will need to dodge some storms. Cities aren’t known for their agility.

It’s snowing in Milwaukee, but they have a roof for that.

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Afternoon Slate: With two likely postponements in the four game afternoon slate, it’s looking like a two-game contest. Keep a close eye on the weather reports. If you think the Cincy game might play, then take advantage of low ownership rates. You’ll probably want pitchers from the dry venues – Chris Sale, Marco Gonzalez, Ty Blach, and Jose Urena. I’d avoid Urena.

Stack Targets: Urena, Cody Reed, Jon Lester

Lester looks cooked these days. Great American Ballpark is a launching pad – if they play.

Main Slate: The night crew is nine games deep, headlined by Clayton Kershaw ($12,200) versus Zack Godley ($9,000). It’s Kershaw’s first start at The Humidor. Godley is making his debut. Both teams had to lean heavily on their bullpens to survive a 15-inning marathon last night. The starters should be given the opportunity to go deep. Godley is (correctly) $3,200 cheaper than Clayshaw Kershank.

Justin Verlander ($11,600) is hosting a weirdly lopsided Orioles lineup. They’re not a safe opponent to target, but they could also supply a strong strikeout total. He should receive plenty of run support too.

And just like that, we’re down to a list of guys I’d rather not touch. Dice rolls I’d try include Josh Tomlin ($7,700), Miguel Gonzalez ($7,000), and… gulp… Tyson Ross ($5,600). Although everybody has positive things to say about Ross this year, I’m not buying until a see it.

Others might like the value for Garrett Richards ($6,500) even though he has a rough matchup. At $8,200, Kyle Freeland is $2,000 overpriced. Otherwise, he’s viable. Jack Flaherty is probably the preferred bargain, although I worry about his ability to last five innings.

Stack Targets: Mike Wright, Cole Hamels, Freeland, J.A. Happ, Matt Harvey, Ben Lively, Tomlin, A.J. Cole, Kendall Graveman, Ross

Speaking of cooked, Hamels may play himself out of free agent plans this year. A bunch of the guys listed above are… guys. They’ll probably neither thrive nor totally suck.

4. SaberSim Says…

SaberSim has some Opening Week jitters. Values aren’t yet posted. I’ll update if they appear in the next hour. I’m curious what it makes of the non-elite pitchers.

5. First Draft, Second Draft

I usually share my first draft DFS lineups with my Patreon patrons. This morning, I decided to look back at the differences* between my first draft and the lineup I actually used. Spoiler: it was a mixed with a wasted Carlos Correa for good measure (removed after I wandered off).

*I set this post to free so you can partake

6. Some Video Highlights

It’s pronounced Mike-Oh-laas.

I know, I forgot to check earlier. Usually means I’ll have a great lineup tonight, a nice GPP payout will ease my pain of missing out, lol.
