Jeff Zimmerman: Hello everyone. The focus of this chat is to discuss FAAB and Waiver Wire adds. I answer those first and then go back to answer any others.

Guest: Can you rank these bench bat OFs for an OC:  Santander (on roster), K Calhoun, Piscotty, or Kyle Lewis.

Jeff Zimmerman: This one is pretty tough. I like Santander with the Red Sox the first week and the Marlins in week2

Jeff Zimmerman: then I’d go Lewis (upside), Calhoun, Piscotty

Ryan: Houser or Sandy A

Jeff Zimmerman: Neither right now.

Jeff Zimmerman: Sandy A has a tough schedule while Houser is likely on a 6 man rotation.

Jeff Zimmerman: Go Houser but keep streaming

Ed: Hey Jeff! Lots of excitement surrounding Clarke Schmidt these days. He is available in my points dynasty league. Should I be running to get him? Could I drop someone like Logan Gilbert or a Danny Jansen for his services?

Jeff Zimmerman: I think Jansen is worth dropping. Also, you can get him and trade.

Clay: Cano is available on my WW.  Would you take him ahead of Matt Carpenter and Anthony Santander? How much would you bid?  MI  and OF #5 options

Jeff Zimmerman: For sure Cano over Carp. Cano is hitting 3rd

Jeff Zimmerman: 10% to 15% if few other bids

Jeff Zimmerman: There are 9 bidding periods so even going with an even divide, owners should be looking to spend $100 a week

Cuthbert: What do you know about any changes Dylan Cease has made to his delivery and would you pick him up over Jordan Montgomery?

Jeff Zimmerman: Cease needs to just throw strikes and that’s on him. I’m a huge Montgomery fan with his velo jump and great surrounding cast.

Guest: all things equal, would you hold Puig or drop him?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m dropping right now in one league where I can. I have so many unresolved issues that I don’t need Puig muddying the team

Guest: I don’t get why, when consensus is Nate Pearson starts game 8, why isn’t he owned everywhere? Are people really waiting for him to go 5IP, 1er, 7k before jumping?

Jeff Zimmerman: Probably the main reason is that some league don’t allow MiLB additions. The player must of been in the majors.

Guest: Yahoo’s new default is daily FAAB. Is that better or worse than weekly?

Jeff Zimmerman: I think it is the worst possible option

Jeff Zimmerman: If daily, the waiver wire runs at midnight (no FAAB). If weekly, Sunday FAAB

Kelly: What is a fair bid for Spencer Howard in nfbc?

Jeff Zimmerman: I have no idea how this bidding is going to go.

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d not be surprised if someone goes $400 on him

Jeff Zimmerman: I do like that some boundries will be set tonight and then a baseline for next week can be known.

Dansby Swanson: 12 team pts league… drop me for DeJong? DeJong should bat much higher in the lineup than me.

Jeff Zimmerman: These two are so close, just stream them based on the matchup

Aaron Burr: Any good recommendations for an RP, who is starting in a strong matchup in week 1 or is more likely than normal RP to pick up a win?

Jeff Zimmerman: Dive in to the Dodgers. Possibly Kelly. Four games against the lowly Giants.

Acuna Matata: Which bat would you prefer as a Yordan replacement at the UTIL spot Aaron HIcks or Cespedes?  14 team dynasty h2h points format.

Jeff Zimmerman: I think it’s Hicks. I don’t believe Cespedes is healthy and the Mets will cycle players in and out of the DH spot (e.g. Cano)

Jay: what percentage of FAAB would you spend on Austin Adams (SEA)?

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s a tough one to gauge the interest on. More than the min but probably 2%

Quarantino Martinez: In AL only OBP, is it too risky to roster TB players like Martinez/Margot/Keirmaier/et al?

Jeff Zimmerman: If they are healthy, they are fine but owners are going to need PA’s and I only feel good about Keirmaier

Fangraph’s Lurker: drop 1: Yandy diaz, hunter renfroe, kolten wong

Jeff Zimmerman: Diaz or Renfroe. I’m worried about the pair’s playing time.

Jack Straw: Burdi or Crick – where are you placing your higher FAAB and what percentage?

Jeff Zimmerman: Same for both since one seems to have a foot in on the job (Crick) and the other has more talent (Burdi).

Matt: How would you rank these Meadows OF replacement options; Santander, Kyle Lewis, Piscotty, Cooper, Maybin, Winker, Fraley

Jeff Zimmerman: Fraley, Lewis, Santander,

Matt: Would you drop Keuchel for an RP like Petit, Richards, or Burdi to get some innings this weekend? Def benching Keuchel vs MIN, but he gets KC next week… NFBC OC

Jeff Zimmerman: If that is what it takes to fill all your P slots

Ryan: Any suggestions for SP streams for week 1

Mike Hawk: Dropped Buster.  Need a C.  IK-F or Mejia?

Jeff Zimmerman: Mejia, IK-F, and possible Caratini with Rizzo out and bunch of games in a row without a day off

Big Joey: I really love Tyler Duffey, do you think the Twins feel the same way and will use him as their primary set-up guy?

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe

Jeff Zimmerman: Follow the talent and good things usually happen.

Fangraph’s Lurker: would you drop Urias or Keller for one of Eovaldi, Matz, or Stripling?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d try to find a way to get Stripling on your team. I seems like the league must be pretty shallow if Urias and Keller are your worst pitching options.

Joe: T. Williams or M. Perez for this weekend? Prefer Waino to both?

Jeff Zimmerman: Wainwright for sure against the Pirates

Big Joey: Pedro Baez: Steady elite bullpen arm or a risky pitcher since he hasn’t thrown much?

Jeff Zimmerman: I like Kelly more but it would be nice to have game information on each one.

Cc: Do you think Helsley could keep the closer role or is he done once Gallegos is up to speed?

Jeff Zimmerman: It hashappened that the FNG keeps the job. 20% chance

Frank: Kyle Tucker or danny santana?

Jeff Zimmerman: Tucker but his playing time could dry up once Alvarez returns

Big Joey: Should I focus on carrying more bench SP or bench hitters this year in a 12 team H2H format?

Jeff Zimmerman: Great question and I’m leaning for one more bat than normal. And could see it being 2.

Jeff Zimmerman: Not maximizing at-bats will make a huge difference in the standings so I’m playing the season on a week to week basis

Rennie Stennett: Jeff i remember that you were quite impressed by Kwang-hyun Kim this spring. What type of role and what kind of impact do you think he might have this season?  His RP eligibility in my points format is attractive and so I’ve rostered him ahead of other arms like Voth, Trev Richards, Gibson and Kikuchi

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe. His been throwing decent but fighting the Card’s 5th spot with Carlos Martinez

Fangraph’s Lurker: do you buy jean Segura as a 2B/SS/3B utility guy? He’s currently just SS eligible but is getting reps in 3B and he could always shift to 2B if that doesn’t work

Jeff Zimmerman: I think Segura is one of the best draft day steals and I’ve rostered him in over half my leagues

Big Joey: Regardless of who is on your team, drop one of these players: Mike Minor, Alex wood, Howie Kendrick

Mike Hawk: Did Dobnak win #5 SP in Minnesota?  If so, Dobnak or Gilbert?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m a huge Dobnak fan, so he’s my choice if he gets the job.

Jack Straw: Is Matt Kemp exclusively to be considered home games vs LHP?    Looking for any advantages in daily lineups – what’s that worth in FAAB in deep NL only

Jeff Zimmerman: So you are looking at player who could only help in 1/6 of the games at best.

Jeff Zimmerman: Min

Nick: Missed out on 1B in my draft. Rolling with Brandon Lowe for now. Canha or Myers worth rostering? Would rather not use 2 roster spots on questionable 1B options.

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d rather have Canha and Myers more than Low. If you need steals, grab Myers. If not, Canha is better right now.

Babyfarts: Dynasty league where I have Kershaw/Urias/May – do you ever worry about having too many players on the same team/rotation?

Jeff Zimmerman: Not usually, I do get hit sometimes with several of my having a 5 game week.

Hawk Harrelson: Need catching depth. Barnhart, Avila, Stallings or Barnes? Thanks for the help.

John: Thoughts on Alex Verdugo and Austin Hays.   Need to add an outfielder while Meadows is out.

Jeff Zimmerman: This is close (Hays has nice matchups to start the season) but pick Verdugo based on better hitter around him

big mac: What to make of tony la stella? Have heard NOTHING on him all preseason.i have him in a utility slot for versatility.  Fraley, Wil Myers, Pillar and Miguel Cabrera also available. Tough deep league

Jeff Zimmerman: I like LaStella’s versatility and mini-breakout last season.

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s a must own if hitting at the top of the Angels lineup.

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m worried Fletcher and he are going to share playing time.

Cosmic Charlie: You mentioned Caratini both for C with many consecutive games and potential need to replace Rizzo – would he be needed for playing time first week for Muncy or do expect him to be ready and play to start season with finger injury

Jeff Zimmerman: I think you are asking but replacing Muncy with Caratini

Jeff Zimmerman: I think you could find a better 1B like Thames

Jeff Zimmerman: I think Caratini is only a C replacement

Mike Hawk: Do you think SP eligible RPs like Strahm or C Green hold more value this year in a shortened season with Starters not stretched out to go more that 80-100 pitches?  Any others in mind?

Jeff Zimmerman: I think some could but I’m not sure who it’s going to be. Some starters could be in the bullpen to start

Guest: Someone put meadows on waiver in my league. I’m foaming at the lips to take him and about to throw a majority of my FAAB at him. Is that crazy to dump say 77 of 100 on a player before the season starts?

Jeff Zimmerman: If $0 bids, I understand the bid. With $1 min bids, having only 23 more moves might limit you replacing hurt/COVID players.

Babyfarts: Do you honestly think the season will be fully played out? We canceled our dynasty season due to obvious concerns but seeing this bit of baseball is keeping me wishful.

Jeff Zimmerman: I think I’ll no go 60 games. A couple week shutdown. One team forfits

big mac: Im watching the yankees game. So many homeruns and no fans to catch it.  i keep waiting for that honerun guy to pop out of nowhere
