Sunday Night Waiver Wire & FAAB Chat

7:30
Jeff Zimmerman: Welcome

7:30
Jeff Zimmerman: No Tout Wars FAAB tonight, it runs on Wednesday this week.

7:30
dclahane: AL only SOLDs. Drop Sabrowski for Kitterege?

7:30
Jeff Zimmerman: Kittridge

7:31
qane: In a 6×6 league with OPS, Drop Adell or Jared Duran for Cole Young. Hard to quit Duran who I overpaid for in the draft, and is on track for a 25/25 season, even while hitting under Mendoza with a 30%K rate. Last 30 OPS under .500. Every day feels like it could be a 2HR day for Adell, but a lot of goose eggs waiting for those days. I have positional flexibility to drop an OF for a MI. You moving on from one or, in the right situation, both Duran/Adell? And is Young a right situation?

7:32
Jeff Zimmerman: I have Adell and Young valued exactly the same, with Duran below both of them

7:32
Strange: 10 team keeper, who should I stash on IL and who should I drop b/t Zach Gelof & Roman Anthony?  Not sure Anthony will provide much if any utility this year, while Gelof could be back by 7/20.

7:33
Jeff Zimmerman: Drop Anthony

7:33
KCbbq: 12 team AL only 5x% H2H keeper league using W+QS and S+1/2H. Need replacement for Prielipp. Even after returning from IL his IP likely will be limited. Are Bieber or Sandoval worth $1 FAAB (Have 22 of 100 left). Or better to grab a RP like Kittredge or Bazardo?

7:33
Jeff Zimmerman: Sandoval, Kittridge, Bazardo, ………..Bieber

7:34
AU86: QS with K/9 – Jones (PIT), Weathers (NYY), Manaea (NYM) – please rank – would be dropping McDonald (SF)

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman: I have them ranked Jones, Weathers, McDonald, Manaea

7:35
KCbbq: Looking for a decent bench bat in 12 team AL only H2H 5×5 keeper league. Do you like any of Mesa, Wade, Grissom, Arias, Clase or Tolbert? Temp replacement until Gelof returns.

7:36
Jeff Zimmerman: The short answer is no. I’d go Clase then Tolbert as a replacement

7:36
KCbbq: Would you bench Davis Martin for Kenley Jansen in a 12 team AL only H2H 5×5 using W+QS and S+1/2H? My SPs are McClanahan, Bradish, Baz, Gray and Prielipp (pending replacement). My RPs are Baker, Cleavinger and Wells.

7:37
Jeff Zimmerman: Start Jansen. Right now, I have Martin valued as a 4.50 ERA talent.

7:37
Jeff Zimmerman: Martin has been horrible the past three weeks.

7:38
jmhclark: I am in a (very old) NL keeper league with the quirk of having its trade deadline at the ASB. I’m currently in first, on the strength of cheap early adds of Jake Bauers, Casey Schmitt, and Esmerlyn Valdez, with Nasim Nuñez keeping me afloat in SBs. Which of these first-half “stars” would you be looking to trade, if any? Whose breakout do you buy the most/least?

7:38
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d see what you can get for Nunez

7:38
bnlevine: Who’s gonna be worth owning: Wells or Kittridge (or should I just avoid this altogether)

7:38
Jeff Zimmerman: Let me check today’s usage …

7:39
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d lean Kittridge

7:40
seymour114: Are you at all concerned about Schlitter fading or being limited as he approaches his previous innings high? I’m in a cats league so contemplating selling on the chance he becomes a zero in playoffs.

7:40
Jeff Zimmerman: No

7:40
docgooden85: Remember when Walker Buehler was good again for a few weeks? seems like forever ago…

7:40
Jeff Zimmerman: He had a good stretch … oh the memories

7:41
mickd: Evening Jeff, thanks as always…my hitting is a disaster, especially at 1B and OF…any sneaky waiver pickups you’d target?  And if I do move a McLean or Skenes for a bat, what can I expect to receive?

7:42
Jeff Zimmerman: Nothing sneaky, I wrote an entire WW article. You can stream the RH Rays hitters this weekend

7:43
Whaleman: I’m getting a good vibe about Mason Montgomery.  Do you think he’s someone Pitt will use exclusively in 8th or  9th innings going forward?  Santana is not getting it done.

7:44
Jeff Zimmerman: He might. We’ll see what happens at the trade deadline

7:44
fyek276: gerrit cole still good for a strikeout per inning after the break? or this is his norm due to post surgery adjustment?

7:45
Jeff Zimmerman: He’s old. I value him as just under a 4.00 ERA talent.

7:46
fyek276: g. sheets or lara as last OF?

7:46
Jeff Zimmerman: Sheets

7:46
InsertWittyNameHere: Love your work, and got in the Schultz bandwagon early on. Is it just one bad result or do you still think AAA xERA (or whatever stat you said it was) is predictive of MLB success?

7:48
Jeff Zimmerman: xFIP is the one I use. I just know it correlates closely to MLB ERA. I’m going to steal this from one of my commenters, “You can’t fake a good xFIP”

7:48
Whaleman: Roden’s up.   Not mentioned in your reports. 50FV. They’re saying he fixed himself.  You buying in yet?

7:49
Jeff Zimmerman: We’ll see if he’s just a platoon bat and how much he’ll play once Buxton returns.

7:50
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m worried about his playing time.

7:50
JackS: Are you targeting Kuroda in a deep keeper league? What kind of price would be worth it for him as a potential keeper?

7:51
Jeff Zimmerman: I would target and have zero idea on how to value him in your deep keeper league

7:51
Jeffrey Scarborough: Hey Jeff. OBP, R, HR, RBI, SB. Who would you rather have rest of season especially for playoffs, Garrett Mitchell, AJ Ewing, or Royce Lewis?

7:52
Jeff Zimmerman: Ewing. I have Mitchell with the most talent, but he doesn’t face lefties.

7:53
craigj21: is Zach Thornton anything more than a streamer? Has looked really good 1st two starts

7:54
Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe more. We’ll see how long he remains in the rotation

7:54
joeshoeless: Hi Jeff.  At this point in the season how many weeks back do you consider when determining pitcher and hitter performance for FAAB bidding?  How far ahead are you looking at the schedule?

7:55
Jeff Zimmerman: Hitters, six weeks back to the whole season, I have a tool that can look ahead with hitters as far as I like. Usually just two to three weeks ahead

7:57
Jeff Zimmerman: With pitchers, three weeks back to the whole season. I’m only two weeks at the most ahead. Schedules can change so much if a person goes even further.

7:57
InsertWittyNameHere: How come we don’t see any drastic changes like a Jose Bautista anymore? Or am I not thinking of someone?

7:58
Jeff Zimmerman: Walker, Perdomo, Dingler

7:59
Jeff Zimmerman: I think hitters may have their swings maxed out for power now, and the key to any improvement is making more contact.

8:00
NicklePickers: Ginn had a terrible first and then was OK

8:01
Jeff Zimmerman: In the nine starts before today, Ginn had a 4.9 BB/9 leading to an unrosterable 1.37 WHIP. Everying but his ERA pointed to a 5.00 ERA talent during that time.

8:02
porchovilla: Have Palencia rotting on the IL. Should I grab Jacob Webb as a stopgap? Alternatives are Caleb Kilian, Jordan Romano (shudder), or wait for the deadline to make some new closers (12 team 5×5)

8:02
Jeff Zimmerman: Grab Webb until Palencia returns.

8:02
porchovilla: Who’s the better power target for the second half: Curtis Mead or JJ Bleday?

8:02
Jeff Zimmerman: Bleday

8:03
rsands9: In a  main, who would you rather roster as your OF 5, n. lukes or ryan waldschmidt?

8:03
Jeff Zimmerman: Lukes and it’s not close

8:03
bmfan: For starting pitcher ROS in 5×5 standard league, D Peterson or Thornton?  Thank you

8:04
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d take a chance on Thornton. We know Peterson sucks

8:04
fyek276: b. montgomery is striking out about 25%. will he still get everyday ABs moving forward?

8:05
Jeff Zimmerman: Why not

8:05
Greg Pope: In a 15 team NFBC which injured guys would you be first to drop: Judge, Maikel Garcia, Z Gelof, Ranger Suarez, Kyle Harrison, or Daniel Palencia?  Somehow i have to field a full lineup right?

8:06
Jeff Zimmerman: Garcia or Gelof is the drop, IMO. I could see dropping a pitcher if you are dominating the categories.

8:06
procters1: How much of the $50 I have left in FAAB do I spend on Lara?

8:07
Jeff Zimmerman: If in a $100 FAAB league, $1 or $2. In a $1000 FAAB league, $1 or $2. I’m not sure Lara plays enough to be any kind of difference maker

8:07
bmfan: any preference on emerging hitters in NL only with increased opportunity after the deadline?

8:09
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m horrible at guessing trades and their implications. I see COL trading away several guys and spots could open up, especially in the outfield.

8:09
chris: Was offered $31 Corbin Carroll in Ottoneu 4×4 for my Bryce miller $8, there’s no surplus value for Carroll easy pass right?

8:10
Jeff Zimmerman: Would Carroll help you win this year, make the trade. Flags fly forever. There are no flags for making the most efficient deals.

8:11
xtramaxwell: need a replacement for Harrison  Cantillo or Drohan?

8:11
Jeff Zimmerman: I have Drohan and it’s not close

8:12
fyek276: f. peralta droppable for jared jones?

8:12
Jeff Zimmerman: yes

8:12
procters1: I want to love McKenzie Gore again, but he keeps stumbling every time he looks like he is back. What are your thoughts on him?

8:13
Jeff Zimmerman: a pain in the butt. I only have him and one league. If I start him, I look away

8:13
HappyFunBall: Parker Messick dropped in my league. He’s worth burning a top waiver spot for if my league is ___ teams or larger?

8:14
Jeff Zimmerman: 1

8:14
Beano: How much of a $100 FAAB ($76 left) in an NL 10 team 5×5 league is a good amount to get Lara? Z Thornton?

8:15
Jeff Zimmerman: $5 on Lara, $3 Thornton. I could see going way less if you have the hammer come the trade deadline. I might even go $1 on each. Those two aren’t going to be difference makers but someone getting traded over could be.

8:16
craigj21: Any deep league waiver adds, pitcher or hitter, you see having staying power on rosters and actually being difference makers?

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: No, Victor Bericoto could have been one but he ended up on the IL

8:17
NicklePickers: Ginn or Patrick Sandoval?

8:17
Jeff Zimmerman: Sandoval

8:18
tjryan607: NL/only. Is it time to finally throw in the towel in Noelvi? I’m starting to think this is all he’s going to be. Just beat the ball into the ground.

8:18
Jeff Zimmerman: besides the road trip to COL coming up, I see no reason to hold him.

8:19
fyek276: are carrigg and marsee similar level of hitters for the rest of the yyear?

8:19
Jeff Zimmerman: I have Carrigg as a better player going forward

8:20
InsertWittyNameHere: At the ASB, what worked well for you this year and what are going to reconsider for The Process next year?

8:21
Jeff Zimmerman: Worked: I changed the weight on the Standing Gain Points and my hitting is good to great in most leagues.

8:22
Jeff Zimmerman: More on that at season’s end, some issues to still work out.

8:23
Jeff Zimmerman: Not one major flaw right now. Last year, I was in worse shape at this point of the season and redid several things. Those are no longer an issue

8:23
Johnny5Alive: Jacob Gonzalez for the pirates anything worth throwing spaghetti at?

8:23
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m worried he’s just going to be in a platoon

8:23
procters1: Tyler Tolbert was rewarded with a seat on the bench for the past three games after his hitting explosion. Is he best left on a fantasy bench or worth a claim?

8:23
Jeff Zimmerman: I’d ignore him

8:24
porchovilla: Have to drop one: Jose Soriano or Ian Seymour (QS league). Who’s the cut?

8:24
Jeff Zimmerman: Soriano goes

8:24
docgooden85: Are you dropping Harrison now or waiting for more news?

8:25
Jeff Zimmerman: News seemed good. depending on how they set up their rotation, he might now head on the IL

8:26
gforce1124: Must drop 1 in a 10 team league.  Matthew Boyd or Dustin May?

8:27
Jeff Zimmerman: I have them dead even. Boyd by a hair.

8:27
tg65: Thoughts on Heriberto Hernandez ros

8:28
Jeff Zimmerman: I think he’s talented, but he doesn’t play enough to be fantasy relevant in shallow leagues

8:28
tjryan607: Never thought I would consider this, but Endy or Will Smith ROS NL/only?

8:29
Jeff Zimmerman: Smith, but it’s closer than a lot people would think

8:29
Honkus Wagner: E Valdez flash in the pan? swing and miss feels like he will fall back to earth

8:30
Jeff Zimmerman: The K’s (36% K%) are a mess. I could see the Pirates make him a short-side platoon bat (39% K% vs RHP, 29% vs LHP).

8:31
Jeff Zimmerman: That’s it for the evening. I need to go over my teams before FAAB runs tonight.
