Stream, Stream, Stream: #2xSP (6.1-6.7)

Well after taking a verbal tongue lashing — deservedly so, don’t get me wrong — in the comments last week, we managed to shave almost a full run off the ERA. So I got that going for me, which is nice. The won-loss record will be an all season thing to try get back to even, but for now we appear to be moving in the right direction….until you get a look at this week’s recs that is. But hey, this’ll be a week where these guys should almost certainly be available and at your disposal (insert trash joke here).

Here are the totals through half of week seven:

6-23 record
5.80 ERA
6.2 K/9
2.1 K/BB
1.47 WHIP

Here’s a look at this week’s recs, with team wOBA in parentheses. Y! ownership numbers pulled courtesy of twitter pal @PandaPete21, whom you should give a follow:

RHP Ryan Vogelsong – 14.9% ESPN/11% Y! – v. PIT (.306), @PHI (.284)

Vogelsong gets a pair of really nice matchups this week, which should prolong what amounts to a really solid streak that he’s been on. In fact, it coincides exactly with the calendar flipping to May, as Vogelsong posted a 9.31 ERA in April, and will conclude May with a 1.14 mark. Opposing batters have hit just .184/.244/.281 against the 37-year-old righty this month, as he’s allowed just four earned runs in that five-start span.

RHP Mike Pelfrey – 10.7% ESPN/7% Y! – @BOS (.306), v. MIL (.288)

I know. Like Nolasco last week, it’s hard to stomach that you’d ever use Pelfrey in any meaningful sense. But this is — serendipitously or otherwise — a top-10 ERA guy in the AL right now, and he’s doing it in a way that you’d pretty much expect him to: grounders, and lots of them. Big Pelf has a 56 percent groundball rate so far this season, which has allowed him to evade the peripherals monster for a bit while posting a pedestrian 4.5 K/9. And while I hear the screams from all of you that you’d never use him, I think getting these two offenses this week can help him stave off the regression monster for just a little bit longer. Like I said with Nolasco, I don’t like this any more than you do. Use Kyle Hendricks or Archie Bradley instead, if you prefer.

RHP Kendall Graveman – 5.2% ESPN/3% Y! – @DET (.328), @BOS (.306)

Since coming back from the minors, Graveman has been quite solid for the A’s through two starts: 11.2 innings, 10-3 K/BB rate, three earned runs (2.31 ERA) and an opponents slash of .227/.300/.318. Thank the grounders, as Graveman has induced 23 in the two starts combined to push his season mark to 51.5 percent. The numbers are really, really ugly for the season, but I think this is the kind of guy that’ll be widely available — sometimes an issue with these columns — that could provide you with some nice value. The Detroit start will be tough (No. 3 team wOBA), but he did enough to hold down the Yankees last time out so I’ll take that risk. Detroit has been markedly worse in May (.315 wOBA) than April (.344) as well.

I trusted you with Niese a few weeks ago, but there’s only a few days left of school so I got that going for me, which is nice.
