- SP Rankings (last update: 6/5 | next: July)
Welcome to the Daily SP Chart, click here if you’re new to get an idea of what I’m doing with these rankings. (Yellow added after original post)
- It’s Miz, Skenes, and Wheeler day — Rejoice!! Unfortunately, they all have evening games so there will be some overlap, but the start times are a little staggered with Skenes first at 5:40pm CT, 6:10 for Wheels, and 6:45 for Miz so you get a clean half an hour with Skenes before Wheels even starts. If you trying to split your time and catch some of all three, you can watch Skenes’s first few IP before jumping over. Skenes used to take precedent over any non-Skubal start for me, but Miz has ascended into that spot so come 6:45, CHC-MIL gets the big screen, even over my Tigers. 🙈
- Ginn, Arrighetti, and Martinez are the interlopers of the 3-x world thanks to matchups, venues, and/or recent performance. Ginn has become a firm home/road sit/start guy for me: 4.29 ERA/1.62 WHIP at home | 1.99/.79 on the road. Arrighetti and Martinez are toting mid-5.00s ERAs over the L30 days but both have solid full season records and get to face sputtering offenses.
- From there, the board gets really sketchy. I don’t feel great about starting any of the 2-x’ers and below. I’m taking a shot on McDonald despite his recent struggles because he’s catching ATL at the best possible time as they sit dead last in wOBA vR over the last month as regression and injuries catch up to them. Pair that with SFG’s offense hitting a lot better of late and putting a potential W in play if McDonald can put up a solid 5.
- Ureña still has that sharp ERA/WHIP split (2.41/1.31) that suggests the former will be headed upward sooner than later, but we’ll take a shot against a road ATH team that is top 10 vR in the aggregate, but sits 18th against ’em on the road.
- Castillo blew Miller’s gem last time out when they were in the starter-follower setup but his four outings before that were solid: 1.79 ERA/1.00 WHIP/13% K-BB in 20.3 IP. I only say “solid” despite the beautiful ratios because the K-BB is still pretty modest, suggesting there’s some run-hot here. But even if you tack the 4 unearned runs back onto his ledger, it’s still a palatable 3.58 ERA in this span. The clincher is the matchup, though. Our start thresholds against the J-Ram-less Guardians are wiiide open!
- We’re at the point of the season where COL has built enough good numbers at home to push their full season rankings way up so don’t immediately get deterred by their 4th highest wOBA vR. They’re tied for 1st at home with TBR (that’s interesting!) with a .353 wOBA that drops to .313 (16th) on the road. That doesn’t mean Bradley and his 6.93 ERA/1.62 WHIP over the last month is an auto start, just that the matchup isn’t as scary as it seems on the surface.
- My interest Cantillo is purely matchup related as SEA is dead last vL on the year and 25th over the L30 days.
- Abbott is another pure matchup play. PIT has a night-day vR/vL split, sitting 23rd in wOBA vL with a 27% K rate that is tied for highest with COL. Abbott also hasn’t allowed more than 3 ER in a start since April 24th, posting a 2.41 ERA in his L10 starts. But the modest 1.23 WHIP and outright bad 8% K-BB don’t give the ERA a lot of credence, yet he keeps getting it done. I’d have no problem sitting in a tougher matchup even w/the hot ERA run, but PIT v. a southpaw is tough to pass.
- I originally gave Corbin 1-x, but took it off about 20 minutes after posting. TEX isn’t a scary matchup, but Corbin has completely pumpkin’d after a fast start (6.64 ERA/1.82 WHIP/5% K-BB in L30).

Intro
The chart includes their performance for 2026, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness, and recently added opponent’s K% (also v. SP handedness), my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues – essentially a shallow, medium, deep league setup – and then a note about some, most, or all depending on the day. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s a much riskier stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations for standard 5×5 roto leagues, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. I usually won’t have much to write about aces who are locked into our rotations. If you want to discuss someone further, please feel free to leave a comment. I usually do a few sweeps of the comments before game time in case there are time-sensitive questions.
Color Coding:
- Green – Good Matchup (so lower OPS output by the pitcher’s opponent)
- Yellow – OK
- Red – Bad
Cantillo coming off a great start, in a perfect matchup. I’m running him out there tonight so you’re welcome for the 4.2 IP, 3 ER with a 1.60 WHIP start incoming
Same, but maybe this combines to be the old triple stamp on a double stamp? the ole jinx reverse jinx….the ole….
Wind:
CHW – across from L to R at 11
SFG – Out to L center at 14 in a ballpark designed to minimize wind effects
Rain:
PIT – 25% in-game, 20% after
BAL – 41-53% before, during and after the game
BOS – 46-49% early, 15% by game’s end, 7% after
CLE – 10% to start, 20% by game’s end
MIN – only 17% in-game but MIN is probably going to have a chance of rain for the next week
STL – 60% at 1st pitch, 30% by game’s end, 25% after
Why do some “SPs” do the piggyback thing and then not….like Luis Castillo. I dont quite get why it ping pongs back and forth. Is it just handed-ness/ability of opponent’s top 3 hitters?
The Ms are just trying to figure out what to do with too many quality SP. With Hancock’s breakout this year they have 5 young guys who are rotation-ready and Castillo who is signed for another year beyond this one. Sounds like none of the pitchers are wild about any of the solutions. Going to be interesting to see what they do going forward but a trade wouldn’t be completely out there.
Things should get even more interesting going forward because the Ms have Kade Anderson working on something like a 25 inning scoreless streak and just destroying AA. (He goes tonight BTW if anyone wants to follow that one)
Ah thats helpful. I was mostly curious from a philosophical standpoint. like why go back and forth. the yo-yoing would seem problematic, but iguess there are behind the scenes grumbling about wanting to start. Love castillo but i feel like he needs (not that he has to) accept a more long-man bullpen role…
Probably a make-or-break start for Taj for me. Been eating a lot of bad ratios lately (though they’ve at least come with plenty of Ks). He needs to take care of the Rockies in the 1st game of a road trip.
Have both Castillo and Reynaldo sitting on our wire and debating them instead of Taj ROS
(OK, so I kind of lost track of Reynaldo and didn’t realize he’s been pitching out of the pen since April. Just assumed he was injured since he wasn’t starting. Probably not in on him unless and until he builds up a little)
I know this is a very small detail and others might disagree, but I find the yellow type to be hard to read on a desktop monitor.
In a league where quantity of SPs/quality is super important (pts and have max 15 starts in a dynasty with tons of ppl owned), still hanging on to Castillo? When he piggybacks he’s actually quite valuable. And the “best” SPs available are Reynaldo, Severino, Peterson, Littell, Civale….i feel like Castillo is in this group but it’s ahrd for me to just drop him….yet…
I know his last outing was bad but I’m inclined to see how this one goes before making a decision. The hobbled Guards are a great matchup so if you can’t start him here, he’s a cut. This is the prime stream spot for him
Great report. I only wish you did it on the weekends… when I probably need the advice the most.
