- Cam/Sanchez Day is fun! I wish one had a day game instead of playing around the same time because I love dialing in on both this year. Sanchez draws the spunky Nats so slots 3rd among the aces.
- I thought Seattle was moving the Opener/Follower around the rotation but it Miller/Castillo doing it again. Last time I listed Castillo since I usually list Followers but their OP/FW setups aren’t like normal. Miller isn’t necessarily going to be limited on the front end. Last game, he was brilliant for 5 but Castillo had a really rough 4 behind him. Woo! (not Bryan, but rather an exclamation of celebration!) I was right that they are moving the OP/FW around. Miller and Castillo get traditional starts today & tomorrow with Gilbert/Hancock running the double dip setup on Saturday. Nothing changes for our purposes today as we were starting Miller even against the tough Pirates, but maybe now he’ll be allowed to go 6-7 IP if he’s rolling. Ty to commenter TheBabbo!
- Early has found a better strikeout groove of late. After reaching 6 Ks just once in his first 7 starts, he’s hit the mark in 6 of his L8 with his composite K% going from 20% to 24% in that time.
- Melton has quite hit his K% peak, but he’s also gotten better of late. After just 4 Ks in his first 2 starts (12.7 IP), he has 5 in each of his L3 though he’s still only at 20% during that time, amassing 19 IP of 3.32 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with the improved K output. The results have made it easy to stick with him and I still feel there’s more in the tank skillswise.

Recommendations for Roto 5×5 Leagues
Intro
The chart includes their performance for 2026, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness, and recently added opponent’s K% (also v. SP handedness), my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues – essentially a shallow, medium, deep league setup – and then a note about some, most, or all depending on the day. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s a much riskier stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations for standard 5×5 roto leagues, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. I usually won’t have much to write about aces who are locked into our rotations. If you want to discuss someone further, please feel free to leave a comment. I usually do a few sweeps of the comments before game time in case there are time-sensitive questions.

I’m hesitant to start Freddy with his recent struggles and after the Cubs have scored 29 runs in the first three games of this series.
Understandable after a 10-bomb last time out and CHC’s surge yesterday as you mention. I still have a hard time getting away from someone as good as he is off a couple bad ones. He had 6 ER v. STL two starts ago, but at least made it 6 IP. He had a 3.63 ERA entering his 6/9 start and he’s up to 4.83 entering today w/the 2 Duds and a solid one (5 IP/1 ER but only 2 Ks) adding over a full run to his ERA over the L3. Barring injury, I think this is a hiccup v. something to run from, but if it’s the right setup for you to bench him, I can at least see it. It’s giving me Luzardo vibes where we back off after a mega Dud only to see him dominate on our bench. Tough decision, I still lean start.
I agree with Pascal in the weather comment thread that the wind out makes Peralta a healthy bit scarier and I can see that being your final push to bench
Miller starts today for Mariners, Castillo on Friday, Gilbert/Hancock piggyback on Saturday.
OK cool, so for once I was right but the SP board led me astray!

WAS – out to L at 10, warm too (86*)
NYM – out to L at 13
Rain:
PIT – up to 20% by game’s end, 34% after
STL – 37-50% before, during and after the game. Apparently STL is under a Flood Watch. . . .
