I’m wiped after a pair of Trade Deadline shows (with Nick Pollack here and then a Sleeper & The Best ep. that should be up by the morning for audio and can be watched here) so I’ll drop some comments in the morning!
- Skubal debut in LA… I’m sure everyone will be tuned in as there was absolutely zero pushback or consternation about it! Btw, people can be annoyed with the deal and how the Dodgers get everyone, but taking it out on Skubal who was simply traded by his team is silly.
- I won’t pretend it was the consensus but I didn’t think any pushback on Minnesota keeping Ryan had merit. They’re very much in the mix, were clearly buying, and still have another year of Ryan to consider dealing him this winter/next year if things go south.
- I have no idea if Milwaukee offered Henderson in the River Ryan role of a Skubal trade, but if so, I’d have rather gone that route. But it’s pure speculation, we have no idea who Milwaukee offered (or if it’s out there, I haven’t seen it). I wanted them to go hard for Skubal not just so my Tigers get what I perceive to be a better return (if Hendo was in it) but also so the Dodgers didn’t get another elite piece.
- Maybe Jared Jones is more firmly back than I originally thought. I preached some caution on a couple recent pod appearances where he was getting promoted as a 2H breakout because I didn’t want to get caught up using a small sample to think someone is fully back from TJ. It is 5 starts and 27 IP where Jones has been completely dialed: 2.00 ERA/.63 WHIP/28% K-BB. Even if I still have a bit of residual caution on thinking he’s fully back, he has done enough to be a rotation lock for the foreseeable future. He gets a 2-step this week (NYM on the wknd) and even if this didn’t go super well, I still think he’d be a firm 3-x next week v. BOS whereas in the throes of my panic, I might’ve run him to the bench at the first sign of trouble.

Recommendations for Roto 5×5 Leagues
Intro
The chart includes their performance for 2026, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness, and recently added opponent’s K% (also v. SP handedness), my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues – essentially a shallow, medium, deep league setup – and then a note about some, most, or all depending on the day. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s a much riskier stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations for standard 5×5 roto leagues, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. I usually won’t have much to write about aces who are locked into our rotations. If you want to discuss someone further, please feel free to leave a comment. I usually do a few sweeps of the comments before game time in case there are time-sensitive questions.

Color Coding:
- Green – Good Matchup (lower OPS output by SP opponent) – 21st to 30th
- Yellow – OK – 11th to 20th
- Red – Bad – 1st to 10th
No wind at 10+ but Wrigley is out to L at 6 and Coors is across from R to L at 9
Rain:
ATL – 51% to start, 30% at the end
Coors – 12% all day
BAL/KCR – very slight chances
Fun minor league rehab game today in single-A where both Joe Musgrove and Nick Pivetta are expected to throw for Lake Elsinore while Tyler Glasnow started for Ontario.
As I type, they’re in the 3rd and Glasnow made it through 2 IP with 1 H and 1 K, no runs, 16 pitches total.
Musgrove went 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 R, 39 pitches.
Pivetta hasn’t appeared yet.
**UPDATE – Pivetta came in to start the 3rd, made it through 3 batters and then got pulled mid-AB on batter #4 after only 14 pitches so that can’t be a good sign.
One caution on Jones – they really aren’t letting him go over 80 pitches. He has gone 81 and 83 in 2 of the games but below 80 in all the rest. (BTW, repeat request for pitch counts to be included in the Game Logs on player pages)
He’s just been pitching so freaking awesome that he’s still managing to get through at least 5 and often 6. But he’s going to run into a game or two eventually where his pitch count gets run up and he can’t make it through 5. I’m still holding, but be aware.
