Starting Pitcher Chart – August 12th, 2025

Daily SP Chart archive
The chart includes their performance for 2025, their opponent’s wOBA rank versus the pitcher’s handedness from this year so far, my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them. Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s a much riskier stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more valuable focusing on roto.
I had a little issue last night with some foot swelling so I was laid up for a good part of the evening. Swelling is not just down but completely gone this morning so hopefully it was just a blip! Apologies to those of you who use this for pickups because I know that requires a night-before release, but I just ended up falling asleep after elevating the foot while watching the Tigers game. Everything should be good tonight for Wednesday’s board.
Updates:
- Brown in for Horton, still just 1-x reco
- Assad in now… c’mon Chicago, make a choice! 😂
- Y’all are right on Wacha, 1-x is crazy work… updated him to full 3-x reco
- Also agree on Baz skepticism (consider he & Wacha switched in ranks – Wacha to 9, Baz to 16)

Recommendations for Roto 5×5 Leagues |
KEY x: Standard Recommendation | W: Chasing the Win
Ben Brown is starting for the Cubs today, not Cade Horton FYI
I def should’ve swept the list to make sure there were no changes from yesterday evening when I pulled the probables, but I was rushing since it was so late. Ty for the heads up! (Still only a 1-x w/him, btw)
Javier Assad activated and starting tonight, per reports.
lol just saw that… get it together Cubs!!!
Wacha only in 15+? ERA under 2 and WHIP under 1 over his last 5 starts, great changeup against a lefty-heavy WSN lineup, decent pitchers park…what am I missing?
Yeah scrolled down to post same thing. He has been on a prolonged roll and has a great matchup. I would start him over almost everyone form 9 down today.
Totally fair, he deserves more. Admittedly ran this one pretty quickly this AM bc I lost out on my work time last night. I’ll amend him, great call!
Good catch. I agree with Paul’s updated ranking of XXX vs. the Nats. Which is why I picked him up and he will probably stink. 🙁
Tying this into the Baz@As thread below, Wacha might only be XX or X at Sacramento.
Baz @ A’s? That’s terrifying tbh
This as well, can you really start any non-top tier guy at ATH this summer?
Def agree on it being scary bc as Pirates Hurdles mentions in his reply to you, the heat has finally turned up in Sactown. It was a relatively moderate summer for them per Justin & others in the area, but lately the summer is summering. I’d be fine skipping him as I’ve never been the biggest fan in the first place. I do think he’s at least startable, though, especially if you’re a believer (which it seems neither of us are)
I’m done with Junk, every time I play him. He gets bombed. 5.57 ERA when I’ve used him.
Yep, I don’t get it. Continues to have strong metrics, but every time I watch him – as I am right now – he stiiiiinksssss
