Shortstop ADP Market Report: 3/17/22

With drafts beginning to ramp up, it is important to monitor where players are being drafted on a regular basis. Throughout draft season, I will be doing that work for you with regular updates on the Average Draft Position on NFBC up until Opening Day. You can find all the pieces in this series here.

Top 100 Players Rising

Jorge Polanco (+7.33)- Check out the piece in this series on second basemen.

Top 200 Players Rising

Dansby Swanson (+12.98)- Swanson is rising after coming off of a fantastic season in which he hit 27 home runs and stole nine bases with a .248 average. The most important thing is that he stayed healthy for a second straight season which is something that he struggled with prior to 2020. I have been a Dansby detractor before, but I think he is very fairly priced and a nice all around player that produces in al categories.

Gleyber Torres (+21.63)- Gleyber is rising after people come around to his bounce back in the second half. However, I am a little concerned with what his playing time might be now that the Yankees have brought in both Kiner-Falefa and Donaldson. I hope they look to trade an infield, which might end up being him because they can’t play everyone as the team is currently constructed.

Eugenio Suarez (+19.64)- Suarez is rising as people begin to buy into his huge September in which he hit .370 with eight home runs. It was accompanied with some changes, so there is some legitimacy to the gains. He obvious won’t hit over .300. but even with the move to Seattle, if he can hit just .240 or .250, he could be a monster with great eligibility at SS and 3B.

Top 300 Players Falling

Gio Urshela (-11.5)- Urshela is falling in spite of the fact the trade to Minnesota not having factored into the equation yet. Urshela is coming off of a season in which he played well but struggled to stay healthy, playing in just 116 games. I think he will continue to drop since being traded to the Twins, but I think that is also a mistake. He figures to be an everyday player in a lineup that is actually going to be very good. I love the SS and 3B eligibility. I think he is a nice sneaky CI/MI.

Others of Note

Isiah Kiner-Falefa (+26.39)- IKF is rising after looking like the everyday third baseman in Texas, but then a trade to Minnesota and now New York where he looks like he will be an every day player as Cashman is apparently a huge fan should continue to help him rise. He has decent speed and he should be able to accumulate, but I don’t know that I am that interested in him considering how deep the SS pool is.

Paul DeJong (+32.84)- I think DeJong’s rise is just an overcorrection to the low ADP to start off draft season. I know he was brutal last season, but he has reworked his swing in the offseason and now looks like he should be the everyday shortstop to start the season.

Bryson Stott (-21.83)- Stott is falling even though he looks to be the next shortstop for the Phillies with Gregorius past his prime. Stott has shown decent contact skills and a great eye at the plate. He doesn’t have much more than average speed or power, but I think he has a legitimate chance to win the starting job in Philly and could be an interesting accumulator in a nice park and lineup and if the Phillies don’t sign anyone else.
