Rotographs Ranking March Update – Shortstop

We are doing our March ranking updates. You can follow each position here:

We’re using Yahoo! eligibility requirements which is 5 starts or 10 appearances. These rankings assume the standard 5×5 categories and a re-draft league.  If we forgot someone, please let us know in the comments and we’ll make sure he’s added for the updates. If you have questions for a specific ranker on something he did, let us know in the comments. We can also be reached via Twitter:

There will be differences, sharp differences, within the rankings. The rankers have different philosophies when it comes to ranking, some of which you’re no doubt familiar with through previous iterations. Of course the idea that we’d all think the same would be silly because then what would be the point of including multiple rankers?! Think someone should be higher or lower? Make a case. Let us know why you think that. The chart is sortable. If a ranker didn’t rank someone that the others did, he was given that ranker’s last rank +1.

Key:

  • AVG– just the average of the seven ranking sets
  • AVG– the average minus the high and low rankings
  • SPLIT– the difference between the high and low rankings

Is the Pod ranking on Zack Cozart a weird product of the projection system used? Does anyone believe he can be 8th best?

Ha! I was browsing through the table, looking to quickly see who I’m higher/lower on than everyone else and was like whaaaaaaa when I saw Cozart. I didn’t realize I had him ranked 8th, so needed to double check my projection. Then I scrolled down in the comments, waiting for the one asking about Cozart, and here it is! A lot will depend on where he hits in the order, but this is the forecast that produced an 8th ranking:

AB – 537
AVG – 0.257
HR – 17
RBI – 63
R – 70
SB – 8

Obviously his knee is a question mark as well. But it’s a belief that his power surge last year was mostly for real, given the spike in batted ball distance.

Wow. Thanks. I had placed him fully off my radar for the past couple years. Your projection may not convince me to actually draft him, but I will make him a watch list candidate now for sure.

maybe I am a homer, but I can’t see ranking Lindor ahead of Seager. I just don’t see it.

I’d lovve to know the rankers thoughts on Correa v. Machado. Steamer thinks Machado is the better fantasy player whereas Zips hearts Correa more. I find myself more in the Zips camp.

Zips projection for Correa over 650 PA: 29/83/102/27/.273 HR/R/RBI/SB/AVG Zips projection for Machado over 650 PA: 30/87/78/17/.288

Also Mike, any reason you’re so down on Russell? By most accounts, he’s toolsy as hell and has a ton of break out potential. Putting him below Lowrie, Aybar, et al. seems overly bearish according to my brain projection.

I ranked Machado as the top fantasy SS over Correa, but they are pretty close.

i think seager could move up the lineup quicker than expected but Lindor’s PA, initial spot and SB potential puts him in front of Seags.

Correa’s SB could put him over Manny for sure. I wish Manny was hitting third, but for another year i’d slant toward Manny in general although I like going power + speed high potential in yahoo so i probably prefer Correa rather than have to go with SB only guys late in draft.

He’ll be hitting either 8th or 9th in the lineup (either before or after the pitcher), in the NL, which is terrible. He’ll probably contribute positive value in homers and steals, but won’t be an asset in RBI or runs hitting at the bottom, plus he won’t come to the plate as often. And his average is likely to be a negative as well.

With the Cubs stacked lineup, it’s hard to imagine much room for moving up in the order outside an injury. Seems like fantasy owners are failing to factor in how much the bad lineup spot is going to affect his counting stats.

Big split in opinion on Eduardo Escobar. Three of you have him low-mid 20s. But four of you have him high 30s to low 40s. I assume that group(of which you are a member) sees him as significantly less than a full time player.

I’d agree. Molitor came out and said he earned it. He looked great late last year. He also had a top 5 ISO and top 10 Hardhit% for SS last year.

i’ve secured him in my league so i can talk about this now. if you want an even bigger split, i’d have him in the top 10. tightened his K/BB and went totally berserk the last 2 months last year after being given the full-time SS job. talked in an interview about refining his pitch selection as far as what to swing at. all on top of an already pretty good 2-year track record of hitting for power. twins beat writers call him “eddie the stick”, yet everyone’s still treating him like he’s jose iglesias

14 team H2H Weekly Points League – Can keep one for this season. I included their total points last season along with the round it would cost this season.

Correa – 304.50 points – 6th Round
Mookie Betts – 452 points – 10th Round
