I saw that pitch, and froze it. It was low, before he raised his glove. Just because it is next to the box on any side, it doesn’t qualify it as a strike. Also, A,J, had a ball in his hand, and shook it at the ump as he popped up, while he yelled at him. Watch it again, and freeze it when it HITS his glove.

Left field has been an issue for the Pirates? I think you meant right field. Starling Marte has been pretty solid.

It was funny to hear Eno say that lineup protection doesn’t exist when talking about Stanton (or to suggest that it’s inconclusive) then say that 8-hole hitters get more walks because the pitcher is behind them.

That’s lineup protection in play, of course, and it’s exactly what Pod said it is: it’s not that it produces more meatballs and, thus, more bombs for the protected hitter; it’s that it produces more or less walks and changes the shape of the protected hitter.

Not ripping Eno at all- it’s just one of those little inconsistencies that I think most of us agree with without thinking about it. I know that I’ve thought that lineup protection was fake for awhile but had the same thought about 8-hitters myself.
