I cannot count the numbers of times I have heard them complained about on this very podcast. I have noticed in the last month or so that Fangraphs has now begun this same trend. This is particularly disruptive while trying to listen to this podcast in window. Please, if you can, seem about addressing this, at least for the window’s that have audio as a part of the content.
(While I am complaining, please also fix the “From Yahoo to Fangraphs” web script that was written a couple years ago and was 100% awesome, but no longer works) Ok, end of complaints. Thank you for another awesome podcast guys. I know its free content so maybe I should shut up, because you guys need to pay the bills, but I at least wanted to express my frustration. I shall understand if it is ignored. Thanks again.

It was glorious. Every player in yahoo (next to the yellow notes tab) had a little green fangraphs logo that would take you directly to that player’s fangraphs page from the pages in yahoo (team page, FA page, most added page, you name it). Made research so, so much easier/faster. But then yahoo changed the look of their website (I think it was start of last season) and it broke the script.
Also in the spirit of paying your bills, fixing the script could help increase total page views and help you sell/charge more for adds on the site. I know it certainly increased the number of players I looked up when all it took was the click of a button.
Again, great episode. But I’m wondering whether you guys can discuss whether Wilin Rosario’s worth keeping if you have a decent-sized bench. There are guys out there I want to pick up who could help, but hanging onto Rosario’s catching eligibility while he plays first is tempting–then the Rockies keep sitting him! Your thoughts? Worth a stash?
Wow I don’t think you made that vague enough.
How deep is the league? Maybe you could actually say what a “decent-sized” bench size is, or who the “guys out there” you want to pick up are. Seriously, how do you expect anyone out there to answer that?
I was trying to make the question broad enough to matter to other people. The Paul & Eno/Jason version hasn’t been answering really specific questions during the show since the season started, and I don’t mind that approach at all. My question was a push to give them a reason to discuss Rosario’s value.
In case anyone cares, though, I’m in an 11-team mixer with giant rosters (45 deep, 5 DL, 2 minors). It’s a one-catcher league that counts walks as part of the offensive categories. I’ve got Lucroy on the DL and Derek Norris as my current starter.
So Rosario is not necessary, but he is interesting. The league rewards average pitchers, and I could pick up Brett Anderson, Randall Delgado (we count holds), or Archie Bradley; I can also pick up deep stashes like Matt Moore, Ivan Nora, or Kevin Gausman.
So these are the specifics, but the questions were less for other commenters and more for the podcast hosts to talk about a maybe interesting deep league offensive player.
I’m not sure Rosario will be much help to you since you already have LuCroy coming back the start of next week and Norris is probably a better fantasy option than Rosario anyway at this point.
I would pick up Anderson and ride him as long as he can stay healthy. If I had a crystal ball and knew Rosario would get everyday at bats through June or July, maybe my answer would change, but we simply don’t know when Morneau will be back. Hurting Rosario as well is if Morneau does come back sometime soon, he is pretty much useless since he won’t get AB’s at Catcher or the OF and you will be stuck owning a pinch hitter/wrong side platoon bat.
Hughes has been f’n around with his pitch mix extensively his entire career. I doubt he’ll ever settle. He just throws too many strikes. I wish he’d walk a few more guys.
The man has only gone to a three ball count to 21 batters this year. Sometimes when you fall behind, esp a good hitter it’s better to stay the course and shoot for the edges. If you walk him, oh well. I mean with baseball philosophy shifting (no pun intended) where defenses will concede a single to avoid extra base hits, I think pitchers should view walking hitters the same. And many do. But extrememly low walk rates aren’t always a good thing to me because of this factor. IT generally signifies a strategic weakness in my eyes. When you see a high HR rate with a very very low walk rate, jsut says scared to walk hitters to me.
