Great podcast guys. Totally understand your point on the Yelich deal from his side – obviously a balance of risk / reward. If I am him, or players at a similar age i.e Goldschmidt, Rizzo as you mention. The reality is they are employed in a high-performance, high-risk environment where injuries are common and could easily lead to a complete inability to continue to earn an income at the one thing most of these guys have dedicated their lives to. A $30 million payout, invested well allows anyone, even an MLB player a high standard of living for the rest of their lives. If I am in their shoes I lock in those earnings when I can, with the realization that if I continue to excel, I will be rewarded in free agency, even if that is delayed.

I would imagine that this pay structure is likely in place for other similar industries – highly skilled surgeons, symphony musicians, etc.

Very similar to my thoughts on these type of deals. Its really a win/win for the player. Im sure there are dozens of players who after one good season wished they were offered a deal like one of these. In some cases (Springer, Longo), it’s prior to even doing anything.

You think guys like Jurickson Profar, Will Middlebrooks, Wil Myers, Mark Reynolds, etc wish they had been offered something like that in hindsight? You can find dozens of flameouts that probably never even earned 10mil over the course of their careers.
