Roto Riteup: September 28, 2021

The fantasy industry has lost a fantastic person this week. Mike was a giant on the football side of the industry and was a friend to many. May he rest in peace.

On the Agenda:

  1. Rumors
  2. Quick Hits
  3. Various News and Notes
  4. Streaming Pitchers

Rumors

The Cardinals and Adam Wainwright are having preliminary talks about a contract extension for the 2022 season. Wainwright is having a huge season and has already stated he would like to return for another season. I would expect this gets done at some point.

Quick Hits

Sal Perez left Monday’s game after being hit in the mask with a foul ball. He was able to stay in the game initially, but was pulled later. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Nick Anderson was placed on the IL with a back strain. This will end his very disappointing season.

Brandon Belt has a broken thumb according to the Giants. Belt left the game on Sunday after being hit by a pitch, but the initial x-rays were inconclusive. The Giants will likely put him on the IL, but there is no word on the severity of the break and whether Belt may try to play through the injury.

Various News and Notes

Bradley Zimmer went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Royals on Monday.

Zimmer has played fairly regularly in the second half and hit eight home runs and stolen 13 bases in 328 plate appearances. The problem has been that he has struck out over 35% of the time in that span. There is still a ton of talent in the former top prospects bat, but until he figures out how to not swing and miss so much, he will not be able to translate that talent into playing time and on the field production.

Adalberto Mondesi went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in the loss to the Indians on Monday. Mondesi has struggled since returning from the IL, hitting just .197 with two home runs. However, he has stolen 13 bases in the 20 games he has played which is obviously game changing in fantasy. His stock will be depressed in 2022 considering how much time he has missed and the floor, but no one can deny his upside and he will once again be one of the most polarizing players heading into drafts next year.

Reiver Sanmartin threw 5.2 innings in the victory over the Pirates, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out five.

Sanmartin was impressive, throwing four different pitches fairly equally and sporting a 31% CSW overall. He should get another start this weekend and is worth streaming if you are looking for a Hail Mary at the end of the season.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Not many great matchups today.

High Risk Options: Kyle Freeland vs WAS, Alec Mills at PIT, Mitch Keller vs CHC, Scott Kazmir vs ARI.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Adrian Houser at STL

Yes, the Cardinals have been great recently, but so has Houser.

High Risk Options: Luis Patino at HOU, Elieser Hernandez at NYM, A.J. Alexy at TEX, Paolo Espino at COL.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
