Quick Hits
Ronald Acuna Jr. was placed on the 10-Day IL with a hamstring strain.
It is a Grade 1 strain so it appears it isn’t as bad as it initially looked. The Braves recalled José Azócar to take Acuna’s spot on the roster.
Joe Ryan left his start against the Blue Jays with elbow soreness.
This is not good as it is often a precursor to Tommy John surgery. Consider him day-to-day, but prepare for the worst.
Ronny Mauricio was placed on the IL with a fractured thumb. He is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks. Vidal Bruján was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Yusei Kikuchi was placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.
Ranger Suarez left his start on Sunday against the Astros with hamstring tightness, though the Red Sox seem optimistic it’s nothing major and he can make his next start.
Ben Rice left Sunday’s game with a hand contusion.
X-Rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Luis Garcia Jr. left Sunday’s game with wrist soreness. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Logan Henderson threw six innings versus the Nationals allowing two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out eight in the loss on Sunday.
Henderson had a 35% CSW on his fastball and was effective in the outing. He was pitching very well in AAA before he was recalled and should have a fair amount of rope filling in for Brandon Woodruff for the time being.
Moisés Ballesteros went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Ballesteros has been fantastic, hitting .317/.380/.598 with six home runs and has recently moved up to second in the order. If he were to gain catcher eligibility he would have a ton more value, but even without that, he is viable in most formats.
The Marlins are expected to demote struggling catcher Agustín Ramírez and call up Joe Mack on Monday according to Craig Mish of Marlins TV. Ramirez is hitting .230/.318/.345 with two home runs and three stolen bases this year. The offensive woes are one thing, but Ramirez has struggled mightily behind the plate. He will likely move off the position at some point in the near future. Mack has hit .244/.388/.378 with three home runs and a stolen base in 103 plate appearances, but he is great defensively. He will have value in deeper formats.
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants are expected to call up Bryce Eldridge and Jesus Rodriguez. Eldridge is the Giants top prospect and has a ton of power, but struggles with contact and defense. Rodriguez was acquired in the Camilo Doval trade last year and has been a breakout minor leaguer for them, playing behind the plate, at second base and in the outfield. The Giants are in need of a spark, so expect them to give both big opportunities here.

Pitcher for Today: Nick Martinez vs TOR
This feels scary, but the Blue Jays have not been great offensively versus righties and Martinez has pitched well thus far.
Other Options: Payton Tolle at DET, Davis Martin at LAA, JR Ritchie at SEA, Chase Petty at CHC.
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Cade Cavalli vs MIN
Cavalli has looked better recently and gets a bad Twins team.
Other Options: Bryce Elder at SEA, Brandon Sproat at STL, Eduardo Rodriguez vs PIT

Ballesteros is shaped like a catcher, which apparently was all he needed to be eligible at catcher in Yahoo.
