Roto Riteup: May 29, 2018

The Roto Riteup is undefeated in Rock, Paper, Scissors:

On the Agenda:

1. ACLuna

2. On The Mend

3. Various News and Notes

4. Streaming Pitchers

ACLuna

Top prospect Ronald Acuna was placed on the 10-Day DL with a mild ACL sprain. Acuna injured the ligament on this play:

This is pretty great news considering how the injury looked at the time. He is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

On The Mend

Jimmy Nelson has resumed throwing according to Adam McCalvy. Nelson is recovering from off-season shoulder surgery and suffered a small set back recently that shut down his rehab. He appears to be back on track, but will likely not appear until the second half.

According to manager Dave Martinez, Daniel Murphy is expected to return to the Nationals “soon.” Murphy started a rehab assignment over the weekend and is recovering from off-season knee surgery. It looks like he may be back sometime in early June.

Troy Tulowitzki has resumed running as of Monday. The former fantasy superstar has missed the entire season with a foot injury and likely won’t be back anytime soon. Tulo is only fantasy viable in formats that reward owners for time spent of the DL.

Hunter Renfroe was activated from the 10-Day DL on Monday. Renfroe was on the DL with an elbow injury, but has fully recovered. Franchy Cordero was placed on the DL with a forearm injury in a corresponding move. Renfroe should slot back into an everyday role for the Padres with Cordero and Wil Myers (who will resume baseball activities today) on the DL.

Various News and Notes

Phil Hughes was traded to the Padres. Hughes goes to San diego which is one of the few spots in the Majors where he may be a viable pitcher, but in terms of fantasy, he is a better twitter follow (he has an 80-Grade twitter account) than he is a pitcher at this point in his career.

Pablo Sandoval made his first career start at second base on Sunday because the Giants are really trying to challenge my level of commitment to them as a fan. Sandoval has been working out at second for a few weeks. With Joe Panik and Alen Hanson still on the DL, he could get enough starts to gain eligibility in some formats. He is only NL Only relevant at this point in his career.

Matt Davidson was placed on the 10-Day DL with back spasms. Davidson started the season out hot, crushing nine home runs before the start of May, but has struggled since hitting only two home runs with a .226/.358/.377 triple slash. We probably saw the best that Davidson has to offer in the first month of the season, so it is ok to drop him in all formats.

Josh Donaldson was removed from the game on Monday after suffering a calf injury. Donaldson reportedly stated that he did not believe the injury to be serious, but considering his recent health woes over the last couple of years, it is a concern. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Adam Ottavino was placed on the 10-Day DL with an oblique injury. It is unclear when Ottavino hurt himself, but he will likely miss around 3-4 weeks with the injury. He should be reserved in most formats as he has been fantastic.

Streaming Pitchers Options

A pitcher for today: Kyle Gibson at KC

Gibson has struggled as of late, but the Royals are awful against right-handed pitching.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Clayton Richard vs MIA

Richard gets a bad Marlins team at home and has a 3.38 ERA in his last three starts.

Trying to decide if that Gibson recommendation is genuine, or if you’re just trolling Sporer.
