Closer Chaos

Pete Fairbanks is expected to be activated from the IL when first eligible on Tuesday. He is traveling with the team on the road trip and while the Marlins have gone with a committee in his absence, Fairbanks should resume closing duties this week.

Quick Hits

Willson Contreras left Sunday’s game after being hit by a pitch on the hand.

X-rays were negative so it appears he has avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Jacob Wilson윌슨 left Sunday’s game after an awkward dive:

He was diagnosed with a shoulder sprain and is expected to undergo further imaging on Monday. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Kerry Carpenter was placed on the IL with a shoulder sprain. There is no timetable for his return. Gage Workman was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Eli White left Sunday’s game with a potential concussion after running into the wall on Sunday.

He is in concussion protocol. Consider him day-to-day for now, but he will likely hit the 7-Day IL.

Various News and Notes
Jo Adell went 3-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Adell had been struggling some this season, but he seemingly turned it around in one game, raising his average over ten points and bringing his season home total up to six. Adell has a ton of power, but his aggressive approach will lead to hot and cold streaks. The fact he has kept his strikeout rate down is a good sign he will be able to improve in the average department while still providing a ton of power.

Logan Henderson threw five innings versus the Yankees, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five in the no-decision on Sunday.

Henderson had a 43% CSW on his changeup and mixed his three pitches well before being pulled to begin the sixth inning. Henderson has good stuff and has 33% K-BB% this season. He has pitched well enough to be rostered in most formats and should keep his job if he continues to do so.

Gage Workman hit a home run versus the Royals on Sunday:

Workman was called up with Kerry Carpenter hitting the IL and should get some opportunities while he is out. He was hitting .358/.413./.590 with four home runs and 12 stolen bases in AAA, but has struggled with contact throughout his time in the minors. His zone contact in AAA was 86% which would be huge if it sticks.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in Yahoo)

Pitcher for Today: Peter Lambert vs SEA

Lambert has been great so far and has a decent matchup at home.

Other Options: Joey Cantillo vs LAA, Roki Sasaki vs LAD.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Walbert Urena at CLE

Urena struggles with control, but has otherwise pitched well and has strikeout upside. He has a decent matchup here and is worth the risk.

Other Options: Andre Pallante at ATH, Brandon Sproat vs SD, Stephen Kolek at CHW.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”
