Roto Riteup: March 27, 2019

No matter how poor your draft(s) went this year, at least you are not this guy:

Or this guy:

On the Agenda:
1. Trade!
2. MLB Debuts
3. Various News and Notes

Trade!
The San Francisco Giants have traded Chris Stratton to the Los Angeles Angels for Williams Jerez. Neither player is fantasy viable, but I have a long history with Stratton and this makes me sad to see him traded away from my Giants.

MLB Debuts
The Chicago White Sox officially purchased the contract of Eloy Jimenez on Tuesday. This confirms what was already suspected, that Eloy will begin the season with the big league club. Eloy has a rare combination of hit tool and power that should give him a pretty easy chance to acclimate quickly to the Major Leagues. He has been going outside the top 100, which means if you invested in him early, you got a nice little discount for one of the top prospects in baseball.

According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, Fernando Tatis Jr. has made the Padres opening day roster. This is a surprising move by the Padres as Tatis is not considered a finished product, but he has had a good enough spring and apparently the Padres are pushing to compete now, so they will give him the opportunity to play every day. Tatis is largely considered one of the best prospects in baseball and has a very high ceiling in fantasy due to his power and speed combination. To make room for him in the lineup, the Padres are reportedly sending former top prospect Luis Urias down to AAA.

Various News and Notes
Nick Senzel has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle and will miss at least 1-2 weeks if not more. Senzel was already not making the Reds roster as he transitions from second base to centerfield, but this will clearly set him back even further.

Steven Souza’s season is already over after the Diamondbacks outfielder will need surgery to repair his ACL, LCL, and PCL after tearing them. This is the second time in two seasons that a late spring injury has sidelined him. Adam Jones and Jarrod Dyson appear to be in line for more playing time now that Souza is out of the picture for the DBacks.

Carlos Correa’s Opening Day is in question due to neck stiffness. This is concerning news for the young star considering he has a history of back issues. Correa has not lived up to his hype over the last two seasons, having not played in more than 110 games. Combine that with the fact he has not been running much either and he is an overrated fantasy asset.

Do we know what Ryan Stanek’s role will be? I find that whole team bewildering.
