Various News and Notes

Brett Phillips has been called up by the Brewers. He went 1-for-3 in his debut. Phillips was considered a top fantasy prospect, but struggled with contact last year and the Brewers restocking their farm system through a number of trades have dimmed his outlook. In NL formats he is worth a look as he does have a nice power/speed profile, but once Ryan Braun returns he will be relegated back to Colorado Springs or the bench. He also has the worst (or possibly best) laugh in all of baseball:

According to a report from Evan Drellich of Comcast Sports Network New England, Dr. James Andrews recommended that Eduardo Rodriguez be shut down for up to a month. This is a positive development for E-Rod as he was potentially looking at surgery on his injured knee that would force him to miss up to six months. This is a similar injury to the one he suffered last season in Spring Training.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Randal Grichuk could be promoted to double or triple-A ball soon. Grichuk was originally demoted from the Major Leagues to A-ball, to “learn the strike zone.” General manager John Mozeliak stated it was unlikely he would be in the Majors any time soon because there just wasn’t “a need” at the moment. It appears Grichuk has fallen out of favor with the current management of the Cardinals and will need a trade to regain fantasy value. It also inspired this great tweet yesterday:

A week after writing about how amazing Justin Bour has been over the course of the last month, he may wind up on the DL with a bone bruise in his right ankle. After missing his second straight game on Monday, Don Mattingly stated that Bour could end up going on the DL in spite of originally thinking this would be a day-to-day injury.

Khris Davis was removed from Monday’s game with tightness in his calf. He will be reevaluated on Tuesday and is considered day-to-day at this time.

Jayson Werth was placed on the 10-day DL with a foot contusion. The stay on the DL is backdated to June 4th and is not expected to keep him out much past the minimum 10 days.

A pitcher for today: Daniel Norris vs. LAA

The Angels have a depleted lineup without Mike Trout and Cameron Maybin that only has 3 players on their active roster with wOBAs .275 or above against left handed pitchers.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Luis Perdomo @ Ari

Listen, you should probably ignore this one, but I just can’t quit Perdomo. Really if you discount the one real bad start, he’s been pretty good this season so far. Let’s pretend that the start wasn’t against this same Arizona team. Like I said at the top, you should probably ignore this one, but I am rolling with my homie and his 65.6% GB%.

Was Grichuk hitting 8th in front of the pitcher?
