Sticky Situations

Hector Santiago has been suspended 10 games for the incident on Sunday which resulted in him being ejected from the game. He is playing amid appeal. This is the first player to be suspended since the institution of the penalties for using foreign substances while pitching.

This happened in Tuesday night’s White Sox/Twins game.

Spoiler Alert: This will not end well.

Closer Chaos

Jose Alvarado recorded the save on Tuesday night in the victory over the Marlins. The outing was not without incident though. Alvarado allowed two runs in the appearance on a wild pitch, a walk and a couple of hits before ending the game. Alvarado has struggled with walks this season to the tune of an 18% walk rate, so it is hard to believe that he will be able to hold this role down the rest of the way, but he has it for the time being.

Trade!!!

According to Craig Mish of SportsGrid, the Blue Jays are trading for Corey Dickerson and Adam Cimber for Joe Panik and prospect Andrew McInvale. This is a bit surprising considering Dickerson is on the IL. However, he will likely find himself on the strong side of a platoon with Randal Grichuk once healthy, making him an interesting pick up in deeper formats and AL Only. Cimber, Panik, and McInvale all don’t have any fantasy value.

Quick Hits

Blake Snell was scratched from his start on Tuesday due to an illness. This doesn’t sound COVID related and hopefully he won’t be out long.

Jose Urquidy left Tuesday’s start with shoulder discomfort. Urquidy gave up a home run to Cedric Mullins and was working with reduced velocity. Consider him day-today at this time, but this sounds very bad.

Bobby Dalbec left Tuesday’s game with a hamstring injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Mike Tauchman left Tuesday’s game with an injury. Tauchman injured himself making this amazing catch in the second inning

He is expected to undergo further testing on Wednesday. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Various News and Notes

Mike Foltynewicz threw seven innings in the victory, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Folty gave up a solo shot in the first, but cruised for the rest of the outing. He has struggled quite a bit this season, but has looked better as of late since reportedly changing the grips on his slider and curveball which has helped give them more movement and are leading to better movement on the pitches. He is still a ways away from fantasy relevance in most leagues, but he could return to mixed league viability if he can keep the recent gains.

Carlos Martinez threw six innings in the victory versus the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six.

This was C-Mart’s best start of the season, with both his sinker and slider posting 40+% CSWs. Martinez has always had a ton of talent, but has struggled to put it all together for extended stretches. He is worth monitoring in deeper formats for good streaming options like this one.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Pitcher for Tomorrow: Kwang Hyun Kim 김광현 vs ARI

Kim has been pretty good in his return from the IL and has a great matchup versus the Diamondbacks.

High Risk Options: Bailey Ober at CHW, Cal Quantrill, Kolby Allard at OAK, David Peterson at ATL, Vladimir Gutierrez vs SD.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Merrill Kelly 켈리 vs SF

This is risky because the Giants have been so good, but Kelly has as well over his last two starts, throwing 13 innings and allowing just a single run on one hit and one walk while striking out 10.

High Risk Options: Adrian Houser at PIT, Griffin Canning at NYY.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options” but I may add them at some point.
