Roto Riteup: June 30, 2017

OK, we finally found the one way to stop Aaron Judge:

Well, actually two ways as David Robertson fanned Judge to end the game:

Turner Down with Broken Wrist

We just don’t get nice things anymore. Trea Turner was only .236 with 9 SBs on May 21st, with most of his damage coming during a big series at Coors Field in late-April. He would have just nine hitless games in his next 35, putting up a .318/.375/.442 line with 3 HR, 29 R, and 26 SB (22 of which came in June alone) in 168 PA. But that’s all gone now. An errant Pedro Strop fastball caught Turner on his right wrist, breaking it and putting him on the shelf indefinitely.

Stephen Drew will replace Turner for now, but the Nats could be adding a shortstop to their July shopping list. We here at Fangraphs got an exclusive sneak peek at said list:

Klubot Gets Software Upgrade

Corey Kluber allegedly went on the disabled list with a back issue, but that’s what they want you to believe. WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!! The Klubot was clearly getting a software upgrade to make him the most powerful pitcher in the universe!! Since returning from “the DL” (their words, not mine), he has a 1.26 ERA, 0.67 (!) WHIP, 64 K, and just 7 BB in 43 IP. He has fanned at least 10 in five of the six starts: 10, 8, 10, 11, 13, and then 12 yesterday. Does a “human” throw 89 mph cutters like this?

I don’t think so, Tim.

Gettin’ Grichy with It

Randal Grichuk took his demotion to Triple-A seriously and has returned in style with three multi-hit games, each of which includes a homer: 7-for-22, 3 HR, 9 RBI, and 6 R. The injury to Dexter Fowler opens up playing time for Grichuk to establish himself, too. The 25-year old is a Statcast darling who regularly smashes the ball, but too infrequently to really be a huge fantasy asset, but I’d consider an add in leagues as shallow as 12-teams if I needed to try and catch lightning in a bottle.

Cutch Stays Hot

In mid-May, Andrew McCutchen was a major buy low candidate for those to strike it rich. A true buy low is when it really stinks and it’s actually hard to buy in, when nothing in the current profile jumps out to suggest a rebound. He was hitting .200/.271/.359 through May 23rd, totaling 188 PA in 45 games.

The Pirates decided to move him out of the #3 spot in hopes of shaking things up and well, it worked. I mean, he may’ve rebounded by staying at #3, but since shifting down in the lineup he is hitting .396/.489/1.182 with 8 HR, 7 2B, 27 RBI, and 27 R in 133 PA. All of sudden he’s pacing for a 30 HR/100 RBI season and might even log double digits on the bases. He has six SBs so far, pacing for 13. Was it the move in the lineup or was he just energized by my confidence in him as a buy low? This episode came out the same day he moved down in the lineup.
