Closer Chaos

Tony Santillan threw two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run on a walk and a hit in the ninth inning before getting pulled for Sam Moll on Sunday.

Santillian seemed like the lead man in the committee in Cincy, but this was a bad outing for him. Moll and Brock Burke could factor in as well, so Santillian needs to pitch well to keep getting saves.

Quick Hits

Bailey Ober was placed on the 15-Day IL with elbow inflammation. There is no timetable for his return, but typically these types of injuries do not end well. Traves Adams was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Janson Junk was placed on the 15-Day IL with shin inflammation. This doesn’t sound like something that will keep Junk on the IL past a minimum stay. Josh White was called up to take his spot on the roster.

Konnor Griffin was placed on the IL with a flexor strain. The Pirates are saying it is not a major injury, but often these lead to Tommy John surgery. Keep him reserved on your roster for now. Ryan O’Hearn was activated from the IL to take his spot on the roster.

Carmen Mlodzinski was placed on the restricted list on Sunday. Mlodzinski was removed from the rotation in Pittsburgh with the return of Jared Jones and made public comments about it which prompted the move. He could be designated for assignment or traded in the next few days.

Jesus Sanchez left Sunday’s game after being hit in the arm with a ball that was thrown from the stands.

This was a weird occurrence as he was reportedly motioning at a 12-year-old fan in the stands who thought he wanted to play catch with him and the kid hit him in the arm with the ball. The fan was removed from the stadium. X-rays on Sanchez were negative. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Elly De La Cruz left Sunday’s game with a leg injury.

Elly stated after the game that he didn’t believe the injury to be serious. He is expected to undergo further testing on Monday. Consider him day-to-day for now.

J.T. Realmuto left Sunday’s game after being hit by a pitch on the wrist.

He was diagnosed with a wrist contusion. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Yohendrick Piñango went 2-for-2 with a home run in the victory over the Orioles.

Pinango has been on fire, hitting .294/.333/.447 with three home runs in 90 plate appearances so far. He has a ton of power in the bat, but has had issues lifting the ball in the past. If he can continue to raise his launch angle, there is a good amount of upside in the bat.

Brooks Lee went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the loss to the Pirates on Sunday.

Lee is hitting .255/.310/.430 with eight home runs and three stolen bases in 213 plate appearances. He doesn’t hit the ball extremely hard, but can do a bit of everything. He is better suited for deeper leagues where he can accumulate.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in Yahoo)

Pitcher for Today: Cade Cavalli vs MIA

I am not completely buying in on Cavalli’s recent success, but I do buy in on going against the Marlins.

Other Options: Griffin Jax vs DET, David Sandlin at MIN, Ty Madden at TB, Chad Patrick (if he has an opener) vs SF.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Jonah Tong at SEA

Tong has pitched well so far and is in a great park.

Other Options: Eric Lauer 라우어 at ARI, Dustin May vs TEX, Grayson Rodriguez vs COL, Connor Prielipp vs CHW, Steven Matz vs DET.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”

What is giving you pause on Cavalli?
