Trade!!!

Adam Frazier was traded to the Padres on Sunday for Jack Suwinski, Tucupita Marcano and Michelle Miliano. There was no doubt that Frazier was going to be traded, but it is a bit surprising that San Diego was the ultimate landing spot considering their depth. Frazier will likely become a super utility player for the Padres which limits a bit of his upside. Marcano could be an interesting fantasy option in deeper leagues with his speedy profile especially in Pittsburgh where he could find every day at bats.

Quick Hits

Mookie Betts was placed on the IL with hip inflammation. There was hope that he wouldn’t have to hit the IL, but unfortunately the Dodgers couldn’t keep running out there short-handed. There is no timetable for his return, but he is not expected to be out long.

Javy Baez left Sunday’s game with a leg injury. Manager David Ross stated that he thought Baez would be ok. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Eloy Jimenez is expected to be activated on Monday for the White Sox and should be in the lineup against the Royals.

Joe Kelly left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Collin McHugh was placed on the IL with arm fatigue. There is no timetable for his return.

Various News and Notes

According to manager Craig Counsell, the Brewers are planning to split starts up for some of their starters in the future. This isn’t a huge surprise as the Brewers stated prior to the season that they did not want their starters going more than 100 innings over what they threw last season and with a bit of a lead in the division, they can afford to play it safe right now and get ready for the postseason. Don’t be surprised if they acquire another starter at the deadline either. This is just a reminder that many teams will be limiting starters as pitchers start racking up innings in a way they were unable to in 2020.

Daniel Lynch threw eight scoreless innings in the victory over the Tigers, allowing just five hits and zero walks while striking out four.

Lynch was impressive in this one, inducing a ton of weak contact and ground balls. This is more of what we expected when he was initially called up. He is widely available and is a worthy team streamer in most formats depending on the matchup.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Short slate is not worth risking it in most cases.

High Risk Options:  Kyle Muller at NYM, Bryse Wilson at NYM, Joe Ross at PHI, Matt Manning at MIN

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Spenser Watkins vs MIA

There is some regression coming at some point for Watkins, but he has pitched well so far and this is a nice matchup against the Marlins.

High Risk Options: Jose Suarez vs COL, Dane Dunning vs ARI, Erick Fedde at PHI,  Logan Webb vs LAD

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
