Various News and Notes
According to Cardinals interim manager Mike Shildt, Carlos Martinez will pitch out of the bullpen for the rest of the season. Shildt stated that instead of attempting to stretch him out, the organization believes they can get more out of him in the pen. Martinez has been great when he is on the mound, but if he is pitching out of the bullpen, it is unlikely he will return much fantasy value.

Danny Duffy was placed on the 10-Day DL with a shoulder issue. The Royals originally hoped to avoid putting him on the DL, so this doesn’t seem like it is too serious.

According to Jordan Bastian, Leonys Martin has been dealing with a bacterial infection and may miss the rest of the season. The infection was supposedly life-threatening, but Martin appears to be on the mend. That being said, he is unlikely to return this year and is droppable in all formats. Greg Allen and Rajai Davis figure to inherit most of the playing time for the Tribe.

Adrian Beltre left Monday’s game with a hamstring injury. Beltre was rumored in trade talks, but was not traded as he owned no-trade rights and the Rangers didn’t believe he would be willing to waive them. Beltre has already missed multiple weeks to injury this year and could be heading back to the DL depending on the severity of the injury.

Brandon Crawford was forced out of the game versus the Dodgers on Monday after suffering a head injury. Crawford collided with teammate Gorkys Hernandez in the fourth inning and was pulled in the fifth. He may have suffered a concussion and will likely require further testing. Crawford has been better offensively this year, hitting .275/.346/.431 with 11 home runs.

Brian Dozier was removed from Monday’s game following an unreported issue. Manager Dave Roberts stated that Dozier had an abnormal EKG, which is troubling. Consider him day to day at this time, but he will likely miss some time, if not a while.

On what day of the week do next week’s two-start pitchers pitch?

I.e., is it that starters on Wednesdays are typicaly likely to have a two-start week next week? I need to stream a smidge way in advance and need to hit an IP limit this week as well.

Tuesday / Wednesday, depending on if the team has a travel day on Thursday and how tightly they stick to the 5 game (vs. 5 day) rest pattern for the pitcher in question. There is no hard and fast rule

Monday SP almost always have 2 starts.

Tuesday SP sometimes have 2 starts if their team has no off days that week.

With the caveat that there is a whole lot of “it depends” in this answer: Tuesday pitchers will probably get 2 starts the following week if they do not get the Sunday start in the current week, Wednesday pitchers are probably going to get 2 starts the following week and Thursday pitchers might get 2 starts in the following week.

Since almost no teams are on an “every 5th day” schedule anymore where they might skip their 5th starter to keep 1-4 on rotation, the Thursday starter is going to need a favorable schedule to get 2 starts the next week. Any off days the next week and the Thursday guy is probably not getting 2 starts.
