Deadline Day Deals

Yoenis Céspedes to NYM: Cespedes’ value may actually take the slightest of hits moving to New York, where his supporting cast is not as strong as in Detroit. All-in-all, the bigger winners will be the rest of the Mets lineup, who could contribute a couple more runs or RBI the rest of the way. Michael Fulmer is also in a better situation now, leaving a team with surplus pitching and going to one with holes to fill. Fulmer should make his debut in mid-2016, if not Opening Day.

Dan Haren to CHC: Haren leaves spacious Marlins Park to go to Wrigley, which is not exactly a hitter’s paradise. Haren’s still going to have homer problems, but he’ll have an extra shot at a couple wins with his improved run support.

Ben Revere to TOR: Revere will slot into the bottom of the Blue Jays’ order, giving him some chances at runs as the lineup turns over. Leaving a team with Ryan Howard as the cleanup hitter and moving to one with Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki and Edwin Encarnacion is certainly a plus.

Gerardo Parra to BAL: Parra’s pop has been a pleasant surprise this year, and Camden Yards will help support his new found power.

Various news and notes
The Yankees will be giving top prospect Luis Severino his major league debut sometime next week, likely on Tuesday. Severino has been carving up the competition in AAA to the tune of a 1.91 ERA and 2.53 FIP. Severino struck out nearly a third of the batters he faced last year over three levels thanks to a big fastball and good changeup. I’m trying to buy a share or two of Severino in the case that he transitions quickly to MLB competition.

Taijuan Walker was special last night, throwing a one-hitter against the Twins. Walker pounded the strike zone with heater and mixed in his 90 MPH changeup to great effect. Walker will still be erratic, but the flashes of brilliance are wonderful to see.

Jung-ho Kang is on fire right now, hitting .467 with seven doubles and two homers since July 19. Kang has nine multi-hit games in that stretch.

Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.

A pitcher for today: Kevin Gausman vs DET (Anibal Sanchez)
A Tigers lineup without Yo and Miggy is not a Tigers lineup I fear.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Trevor Bauer at OAK (Sonny Gray)
Bauer in Oakland against the Zobrist-less lineup is still a roll of the dice, but the odds are just a little better.

In regards to Severino, would you drop someone like Chris Tillman to pick him up or are you buying Tillman’s rebound I the last month or so?

Severino has maintained high strikeout rates, along with low walk and HR rates. His fastball/changeup combination is outstanding, and his command has been quite good. If he improves his slider, he is going to be amazing. If nothing else, he should be at least as good as Tillman this year, and his upside makes him a keeper in every league that allows keepers.

Tillman’s recent performance has been the product of an absurdly low BABIP. His strikeout rate has actually dropped lately. I cannot imagine keeping Tillman at the expense of Severino.
